Happy Monday morning all
Been up since before dark thirty. I barely remember yesterday except we spent all the live long day with my Mom and some company from out of state. Sorry that I missed y'all.
I have started Ms Gracie the chi chi on her official training. So far I can't get her to come to me but whenever she does come over my way I can actually get her to sit. She is learning to love the walking. Just need to get her acclimated to what that actually means as in, stay by my side and walk, not smell every urine deposit in the park/trail/yard. I must say it is excellent exercise. For me. Yay.
Will check in later, gators.

Good morning.
I thought I was the only one up early. Yesterday I worked with my new Janome and did wash as well. So far, I have one block done for the One Star quilts. Hopefully I'll get a couple more done. Blondie, my Bichon will smell each and every leaf, blade of grass, etc on his walks. Have a great day everyone.

I don't know how much experience you have training dogs. In case you have never trained one here's a bit of advice we gained from training our lab. We found a treat she absolutely adored. (Labs are chow hounds so any treat would do, actually.) We would give her a treat each time she was successful in obeying our command? After a few times she would quickly get the message that she'd receive a treat if she responded to our command. We taught her to heel by actually saying "heel" and kept her at our side with no slack on the leash? If she tried to pull away so she could sniff, we'd give a tug on her leash and a firm "NO." You're so wise to train her, Blondie. You'll enjoy her company so much more if she is well behaved. My husband did most of Rosie's training and because of it she was an absolute delight. I imagine there's a lot of training advice on-line and plenty of books if you haven't looked into it.

Yesterday I finished couple of blocks for the quilt for my quilting class, and then cut out the fabric to finish the rest. I'm impressed with the training efforts Blondie. I'm sure she'll be a quick learner, and hey, sniffing where every previous dog tinkled is fun apparently, or at least fur my dogs, too. I'm off to work today, but I feel more like sewing and playing with my babies, but I think I can get out early.

I hope everyone has a blessed day!

Gooooood Monday everyone! The sun has just begun to rise recently and am enjoying a cup of coffee here with my friends. Do have to get ready for work though. Spent last night with my Dad - had a nice evening together. Today is DH and I anniversary - 24 years. Don't know whats on the agenda - no place to eat out here in town after the sidewalks roll up at 5 PM and neither of us likes to leave the area at night so guess I'll throw something good to eat in the oven for dinner. We are homebodies.
I came home from my dad's last night and saw Katie's dresser and 2 nightstands in the basement plus her bed leaned up against the wall in her bedroom. DH said he moved it for me to give me more quilting space. That was sweet of him and I won't have a fit about it but was really not liking the idea of her things being moved about. I know he was just trying to help thinking I didn't move it around cause it was heavy stuff. Well, like I said before it will be easy enough to move back when she comes home again so I am trying to not let it bother me. Can't look at the past - like Blondie sent me "Worrying does not take away tomorrow's troubles, it takes away today's peace". And "All things in life are temporary. If going well, enjoy it, they will not last forever. If going wrong, don't worry, they can't last long either". Positive thinking!
On that positive note - best get ready for work so I start the day out with a smile. Hope you are a blessing to somebody today.

Hugs,

Blondie

I figured that to keep Luscious happy I need to get her trained for basic obedience. He is impressed with her sit so far. (although he has yet to learn that if he says sit to her she expects a reward, hehehe) I have found some good videos on youtube and then the rest remember from the dregs of my memory from years ago training my doxies.
Gracie is heeling pretty good, sitting okay but still doesn't want to come to me yet unless she wants to. Baby steps Blondie, baby steps. She is worth it.

Im looking for Saturday as well. lol. I cant complain it was a nice weekend. I spent most of yesterday with my mom and thats always a fun time. I also had a nice visit with a woman at church. Shes like a granny to me so its nice to visit with her. I just love visiting with her. She made me caps to wear, bless her heart. I had a visit with my older sissy. It sure was good to see her. I dont see her as much as my other sissy so it was fun.
Well my house got invade with teens and a baby last night. Whew, lol. It wore this chic out. I sure do miss them though. They had moved and so I dont see them like I did when the lived just few blocks away. The baby just changes so much every time I see her. I makes me miss my kiddos when they were that age.
I just dont wanna go to work today. I sure wish I could call in sick, but I cant. I have never been able to do that. Lord knows I have coworkers who have no problem doing that. Ok its time to suck it up and be a big girl and just go get ready for work. Have a great day all!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi all. Looks like it's going to be a sunny but cold day here.
Trish - congrats on the anniversary. Have a lovely dinner with you DH.
Blondie - great job with the doggie training. I was never very good with that (lack of persistence) and thus my dogs were very "independent" although very loving.
Aqua aerobics then work for me today. Maybe a little sewing this afternoon.
Have a great day!

Good morning everyone. Happy Anniversary Trish. Hope you have a wonderful day.

Blondie, GOOD GRIEF for sure. Hope you don't get too much.

Well, yesterday we were at an auction sale and this lady and I were looking at the same quilt and making the appropriate comments. We started talking and we found out we are both on the same bus trip to the Cincinnati Quilt Show. And then to top it off, my husband knows her husband's cousins who have a cottage here in our little community. The world is certainly small. Looking forward to this trip. I leave on the 5th.

AND to top that off, we stopped at our niece's place and her husband puts on the basketball game. Well lo and behold, the coach of Virginia Commonwealth University looks like my oldest son's twin. Freaky! We get home and a friend of ours leaves a message and wants to know what my husband has been doing in Virginia cause he thought he was seeing my son as well. TOO FUNNY!! But not funny business. LOL!!

Not sure yet what this day brings. Tidying up and maybe some quilting.

Have a wonderful day everyone.

The world is certainly small.

We were traveling by car in Scotland several years ago. We stopped at the side of the road to take pictures of a waterfall and got to talking with a gentleman there. It turns out that he had replaced my husband at his job when my husband resigned to take a position with another company. And that was halfway around the world.

Good Morning All,

Had a great weekend with my hubs and 2 of 3 kids. Planted my vegtable garden Saturday (I live in south Texas so it's not too early) and did some yard work. Sunday was church, sending my husband (Chris) off to Norway for the week and cooking supper for my daughter and son-in-law.

I got one quilt top finished last week and two more cut out. I've been quilting for a year and just love it! This website and connection to other quilters is wonderful. I've learned so much!

Everyone have a great week!

Hi everyone :icon_wave:You all are so funny talking about training dogs. I'll stick with my Clown fish = (Nemo fish) They keep their messes contained in the aquarium. Has anyone watched M. S. show today? She showed pictures from the BIG quilt show in NY that is free to the public until the 30th of this month. I think showcasing 600 red/white quilts all different no two were alike. If only I lived in NY. My Hubby was born and raised in NY. That quilt show had a quilt that was made in 1800's they all were amazing! Take care..

Hello ladies :) beautiful florida spring rain here today. we need lots of soft rain - wild fires are starting up everywhere and that is so scarey! gives me even more reason to stay in my front room and sew! LOL - the radio propagation is good today - so husband is staying in his radio room. :) maybe we will meet in the middle later and enjoy a fresh tuna melt sandwich and some lays tomatoe basil potato chips - yummmmmy

lets see what am i going to work on today....... hummmm.... i just finished the quilting on my window garden quilt and need to add the binding....... made 4 of the just one star blocks and finishing the wild animal swap Kitty blocks (Loving the blocks you ladies are posting on the group!! they are so WILD!) i should pull out the teeny tiny litle triangles from the star swap and work on those this afternoon so i can get to the sashing of the blocks... yep - good idea !! that is what i will be doing the rest of today!! :) YAY!!

no doggie training advise here - no cats or cows or ferets either - just the 2 of us and the birds that visit the bath in the back and they are on their own! ;) It IS a small world - i have fun stories about that too having worked at Disney World in the MagicKingdom and on the ferryboats - amazing the people that come thru there!

time for coffee refill - see y'all later....

The sun is poking through the clouds here today and it is a bit windy. Typical spring here.
I tried to sew yesterday, but just didn't have the juice to do it. I plowed through a few more pieces of blocks, but gave up and took a doze on the couch watching some wildlife show with hubby. I would have liked a full-fledged nap, but I find it kind of hard to sleep soundly with a napping husband and a wide awake 5 year-old running about the house. He'd probably sleep through the house falling down around him!
I'm feeling a bit more energized today, so I'll take another whack at getting the wedding blocks finished so I can move onto the Wild Things I'm making for the swap. I should also run the vacuum and a dusting cloth around the place today. Hmmm. Quilting or housekeeping. Duh! Sewing machine here I come!
Take care & have a great day!
Cathy

Happy Anniversary Trish!!! I hope you have a great day. As for moving Katy's stuff around, you are right, it can always be moved back. Don't feel guilty or anxious about it. It was her decision to leave home. When and if she comes back, she should help set her room up again.
Blondie, I loved training our dogs. They are amazing creatures aren't they? I had a cocker spaniel named Toby once, who would not come when told to. He would sit, stay, walk, but ignore you if you said come. So, I got one of those retractable leashes and made him sit, stay and walked away. When the leash was at its end, I turned, faced him, and waited for a few seconds. Then, as I said the word "come" I pushed the button on the leash and it retracted and forced him to walk towards me. When he got to me he sat and looked at me as if to say "what happened". I did it again only this time he came on his own. I never had a problem with him again. He was just being lazy and wanted me to come to him. That trick was a gift from a professional trainer. I liked this guy because he never was mean to the animals. I knew a trainer who told me if a dog jumped on you to grind your foot on top of his rear foot and they wouldn't jump anymore. I was appalled to think you could be so cruel. The man that I liked said that never helped to hurt an animal while training and usually backfired on you. His name was Mr Bartholomew. He was the 4 H trainer for the kids in 4H. Our guys did obedience shows with this training and my daughter got a ribbon at the state fair for her dog Riley James. Lila named him Riley James, she insisted he have a middle name. lol She now does all kinds of dog shows and breeds and trains Mastiffs. And she takes ribbons and money prizes all the time. She is very good at what she does.
I'm not surprised that it snowed, it's so cold here and they are calling for snow for a couple more days. brr.
I'll be working on my swap quilt that I have to put together and I have to make a star block for the soldiers quilts Moda is doing. I'm making a red star out of the same red I used for my grandmothers fan block.
Paula, I'm so glad you are doing so well. Love you, Honey.
Have a great day and love and hugs to all, Jan

Re small world: My husband seems to know everyone. Which is amazing for someone born and raised in a small town in Vermont. I always say my idea of a good vacation is when we can go somewhere and NOT run into someone he knows. One time in the Dominican Republic he met an old ski buddy on the beach (while I was basking in the sun and reading by the pool). He wasn't going to tell me about it but then he thought we might run into him again! LOL

Afternoon, everyone! My early day at work, home already with chores done and slippers on. Spike snoozing in his bed behind me as I enjoy finding out what y'all are up to today.

Last week was draining, needed all my mothering skills for my daughter's first heartbreak. That happened Sunday, so it was a week of phone calls and text messaging more than usual. But then, a dear friend sent me a wonderful treat, which totally made my weekend.

Finally got a chance to sew on Sunday, got a good start on the quilting on my QFK quilt. Want to finish it first, then perhaps do some Just One Block blocks. Got my last order from MSQC patiently waiting for me to finish those projects, then I want to make a generous sized throw for myself. I made a pinwheel quilt from a Luna Notte layer cake for my daughter's living room "cuddle blanket"; I ordered 3 charm packs of the Luna Notte and am going to make those into little pinwheels, so the quilts complement each other. I'll also give this one a nice border with one of the black florals; the layer cake pinwheels don't have a border. So it will hopefully be different enough not to be too "matchy matchy" (although I admit I love it when things match!!).

Trish, Happy 24th Anniversary!

Blondie, I'm so glad LL is able to enjoy Gracie :-).

Paula, work just sucks, doesn't it? Good for you for hanging tough.

Hope everyone has a wonderful afternoon and evening!

OK So it is Monday! It was COLD but sunny today but what the heck!!! I live in CANADA!!! I stayed in my grubbies all day till 3 when I finally showered & dressed for Drs. appt. with hubby. I finished all the blocks for my rag denim quilt that I am trying to make for my Grandson with his old jeans. I made him one before and I thought it looked wonderful until I threw it in the wash where it immediately came apart in a million places! It was beyond repair and it was because of my lack of knowledge regarding stitching-fabric choices ete..etc... I cried but was so angry that I cut up what was salvageable and tucked it away in my misery cupboard ( there are a few items hiding there at present). So out it came and I thought I would try again. Still lots left to do but will post pictures if it SURVIVES the washing machine! PS>>> I am the so newbie quilter who for her very first attempt thought it would be fun to make a queen size quilt entirely of 1 inch squares!!!DUH!!!! Finallly got it together and decided that it would be easier to just quilt in the ditch...WRONG>>> The ditch and I never quite saw eye to eye and for the life of me I could not figure it out. I got to the "What the Hell Lets Just Finish this point. If I ever bind it I will post a pic just as an example of WHAT NOT TO DO WHEN YOU ARE LEARNING!! I also learned afterwards that I had been threading my machine wrong the entire time!!! Go Figure Eh!....Val

Val, you made me laugh with your queen size quilt entirely of 1 in squares. I can totally relate, having just done the same kind of thing, in my quilting choices. Committed myself to a pattern that's tough to sew and where every little burp SHOWS. It's for Quilts for Kids, so I really want it to turn out GREAT. Grrrr. About halfway done with the quilting and boy, will I be glad to finish it.

My ditches never see eye to eye with me, either.

Thanks for the chuckles!
