I was looking for a secondhand lifelike baby dolly to model the baby clothes I'm going to make (just because I fancy making some baby clothes but have no baby!), when I came across ball joined dolls.

I'm not sure how I feel about them. And they're so expensive.

Does anyone have any BJD and are they popular in the US?

Don't have any - The one on the right is darling! How much does it run and what is it's size?

I haven't seen them. They are kind of cute but kind of eerie too. LOL.

I bought a newborn size doll a long time ago to use for baby clothes too. It has a porclean head, forearm/hands and from part of the leg above the knees down to the feet. The body part is fabric. I think it was an Ashley Drake doll but am not sure. It was a bit expensive, but I was making a lot of baby clothes when I bought it. I still use it now and then, but don't make as many baby clothes as I use to.

That doll on the left is just striking and perfect for a teenage girl. The one on the right is almost ethereal to me.

I never thought of using a doll for baby clothes. I just go with the pattern and measure the baby. Great idea and good luck!

The dolls are quite small, I think. They vary in size and price.

My baby doll' Emily' has just arrived (I gave birth in the kitchen!) and the dog thinks it's a real baby. She couldn't stop sniffing it. It was quite sad really, she thought we'd got another family member.

And I've two more babies on the way. :(

I was just getting into doll making with my mom when she passed on 20 years ago. we done a couple porcelain ones and a few vinyl *real* babies. they are all packed away in a box as It saddens me to look at them and I have no room for them. the ones I love and made a few clothes for are Gene and Tyler Wentworth
