View Full Version : Monday Greetings

September 30th, 2013, 07:06 AM

Hello Folksies

It is Monday, the beginning of a new week. I have a very grateful heart to each of you who have been standing in prayer with me for Mom. She will be okay. She may even be released today. It seems as if the last weeks has been as long as eternity. Add to that the previous week, aw heck, this entire year and I told hubs yesterday that we had all the ingredients of a really good country western song.

The long and short of it is this. Mom had several clots surrounding her port. It took 3 days to have them busted up before they could remove the port. The port was removed Friday morning. She is left with what is called a large chronic clot that is adhered to the wall of the superior vena cava. It was not able to be dissolved and we are told that it ain't gonna go anywhere. Okay . . . . ?

I could write a long monologue here about everything else that happened in the last week to try to throw me off my stronghold of happiness. That hasn't happened yet. I am firmly planted. If Mom does come home today, I will be staying with her for a few days I am certain. I won't be able to have access to the computer unless I run up the hill to here. I have missed everyone, have a feeling that I am not going to be able to get caught up but before I leave the house this morning I am going to do some speed reading.

Now here for your enjoyment is the perfect country song. No tears in my beer, just lots of coffee flowing through my veins and plenty of smiles for each of you.

Mornin Blondie
I'm happy to hear mom is doing better..will still keep her and you in my prayers. Things do get crazy when taking care of someone who is ill.
Hubby and I went to a friends house yesterday for a birthday BBQ. We had a nice time with some friends that we haven't seen in a while. We got home around 10, had a cup of coffee and then we were in bed before midnight....very early for us. I got up about 4:45 for a bathroom break and here I am. I'm sure there will be a nap sometime later today.
Today will be some laundry and some cleaning. I also need to run to the grocery store. I am hoping to get some sewing done today. Not sure yet what I will work on, but I do have a few things going so I'm not lacking for choices.
Gonna go read a bit more and start my day. Wishing you all a happy Monday!

Good morning! Blondie, I'm glad your mom is better, prayers continuing. It was a quiet weekend here. My son is a federal employee and we're concerned that a government shut down will come tonight. If it does, he'll be furloughed along with hundreds of thousands of other federal employees until the Congress gets it's act together. Prayers for a plan to prevent shutdown today are appreciated.

Good Morning,

Blondie, I'm so thrilled Mom is doing so much better. I hope she gets to come home soon.

I'm out of bed against my will this morning but thought I would say hi before I go back to finish my zzzz's.

We worked hard all weekend in the yard at our old house. We cut huge limbs off trees and cut two trees down. The gutters were cleaned and then the landscaped (lol!) area was tackled. We brought home 10 giants lawn bags of debris. We burned the bags yesterday. At home we have been sowing grass along the trenched line going to the new someday garage. I put a batch of French onion soup in the crockpot and boy were we glad about that after we were done working.

Dottie is majorly upset that Jeff is going back to work. She hasn't stopped crying since her eyes opened this morning. Olive is as happy as a little lark as usual.

Today is the last day of September. I can hardly believe tomorrow begins October.

Wishing everyone a great day!

Hi Blondie,

So glad your Mom is doing better. I'm sure she'll be even better once she's at home. That'll do you both good. I think of you and keep you both in my heart.

Good morning all,

So glad to hear about your mom Blondie! We I'll miss you on the forum!

Barb your pups sound adorable! Funny how they grow in our hearts!

Weekend went by too fast here.. Dd was home, to celebrate her 19th birthday. We went to dinner with my mother. Then came back to the house for some cake and celebration. My mother in law neglected to acknowledge her birthday and dd is greatly disappointed about that. My dd has always held her in the greatest esteem and is hurt that she didn't even call her. What do you do? Can't make an excuse for her...dd is smarter than that. She is 90 and set in her ways...she hasn't remembered my birthday in years...but good lord help me to the dog house if I forget hers..... Blah!!!!

Spent the morning yesterday with dd just hanging around the house. Then I hand pieced and worked on a few other things until I realized it was bedtime. Where does the time go.....

Everyone have a great Monday!! All you up in Hamilton...hoping you have a great time!!!

Blondie, we've missed you so much! Glad to hear your mom's issues have sort of been solved, we'll continue our prayers!

Klasien and I have been trying to hit as many of the St. Louis highlights as we can fit in and as many as this old gal can keep up with! Yesterday, we went to Mo. Botanical Garden, it was an absolutely gorgeous day for a stroll through a beautiful garden. We've gone up in the Gateway Arch, drank in St. Louis's most famous brew at Anheuser-Busch brewery, ate calorie laden St. Louis iconic foods, and went to a great quilt show. She is a fabulous shopper and we've hit quilt shops and fabric stores and Ross For Less, which she knows about and I've never been to. She showed me some awesome purses and luggage designed by a Dutch designer, so now I have a great new handbag and some pretty purple luggage for my travels.

Today, we're packing the car for Hamilton for the Fall Fun Get Together, for 4 days of fun on the forum! Wish us luck, and we'll try to post pictures while we are there! Have a great week!

Good morning all. Blondie that is great news about Momma. Hugs going out to both of you.

I had a very quiet start to the day yesterday. I was a little under the weather. But by afternoon, I came around. Did not get a while lot accomplished but today is another day. We had a lovely supper out at my sister-in-law for my mother-in-law's birthday. I made the buns and a lovely supper was had.

This coming weekend is our annual Octoberfest here in Ladysmith. The town will be crawling with people and trailers. I will be volunteering in the kitchen. On Sunday, there is a bridal shower for my niece. I will stay with my brother the night before and spend time with him and Line, his partner. I have a busy week ahead.

Have a wonderful day friends. To all of you who are traveling to MSQC, drive safely, please and have a wonderful time.

Prayers for you and your Mom. Hope she comes home soon.
I've always loved this David Allan Coe song. I'm a country music junkie!

Blondie: Although you will be missed I do hope your Mom is well enough to come home soon.

Bubby: My Blaze is doing his high pitched whine at a living room window in protest that not only Dad but his Lil' Buddy Peter have left for the day. Karli just put her face flat on the floor and pouts quietly. Monday's are depressing in doggy world.

Jean: If you say Klaisen is a great shopper then OH MY, she must really be a great shopper. Have a wonderful time to you both.

We had my Lil' Guys family birthday party yesterday to celebrate his 9th. I wrote a mushy birthday letter and attached it to his present and then made him read it while everyone was gathered around. He read proudly and couldn't keep the smile off of his face. As expected when he read the part about us taking a passenger train ride next weekend Kora piped up and said I wanna go and he said, only if you promise to behave. Hubby responded, it is both of you that have to behave. Funny thing is in all of our adventures together there have been only 2 times that they were fresh and it was handled quickly. We had so much fun.

My Kora brought Nana into my sewing room and instead of her commenting on the mess the room is she said, "oh, my God that is just beautiful". I have a baby quilt on the sewing machine and she loved it. I was taken back that her comment touched me so deeply. It is a simple JR baby quilt with some trapunto applique to jazz it up and she is the most talented seamstress that I have ever known and she complimented my work. It just felt good.

I am praying for all today and really hope that this week is productive and fun for all of us.

Good Morning all,

Blondie, glad to hear Mom is doing better! Im waiting on DD to get home from the gym - we MUST go grocery shopping. We are going to get the ingredients for about 20 more freezer crock pot meals. They have worked out great! You can google them or find them on pinterest if anyone is interested - there are tons of them. The premise is that you put all ingredients into gallon size ziploc bags with the name of the recipe and cooking instructions which you have already written on the bag with a sharpie. Mix all of the ingredients up inside the bag zip it closed and stack on the shelf of your freezer. When you are finished with dinner at night, all you have to do is clean the crockpot and take out the meal for the next night, put in the fridge to defrost and in the morning pour it all into the crockpot and cook on low all day. Add a side dish or two (veggies, rice, pasta or potatoes) and dinner is done.!

I also would appreciate prayers for my co-worker's husband. I just found out this morning that he has stage 4 esophageal cancer and the prognosis is not good.

I hope everyone has a Blessed early Fall day!

Blondie, Happy to see you here this morning and we will miss you but you take care of Mom and Yourself too.

Weekend went by too quickly. While I was leading Saturday's Pillowcase Sew In at my Guild DS#3 and DH were to cut down a 7 ft overgrown bush in the backyard but DS#3 said he need to take a run as he has a marathon in a few weeks and would do it on Sunday. He was true to his word and chopped the sucker down in no time at al, even dug out the big root. Today DH will bring the remains to our town recycling center as our next scheduled garden pick up is in November, much too long to have all that debris hanging around the yard.

Yesterday DH and I took a quick trip to a local market for a loaf of fresh baked Italian bread and some cream for the soup I made for dinner. $35 later we left with the bread, cream and lots of fresh veggies, roast beef for sandwiches, muffins and a macaroni salad. Tonight we will have a veggie meal, zucchini casserole, sliced tomatoes and a mix of roasted veggies, plus whatever is left of the It. bread. I'll be busy this morning doing laundry and washing and bagging about 100 pillowcases from Sat.'s Sew In. Don't mind the washing, drying, folding and putting them into the baggies but getting the baggies closed takes a lot of time and patience. Baggies are donated by Guild members and only a few come with easy to close tops.

YEAH, Momma is coming home!!! sure hope all goes as planned. Anyone else think it's time for Blondie to catch up on some much needed rest?

Very, very sad this morning. My main squeeze sewing machine died yesterday!!! Numerous attempts at resuscitation failed so I'm sending her off to the body shop before heading to the morgue. Hopefully the body shop mechanic can revive her first. So very, very sad. And, that means all the list of things to do that require anything more than a straight seam will have to be put on hold. Sure hope the goof ball at the dealership doesn't drop it this time - he did the last time she was in and then tried to charge me for a replaced mother board.

Other than that, I'm gearing up for the drive to Hamilton in the morning. Life is good!!

I was so happy to see your post this morning, Blondie. I have wondered what was up since I have been away from a computer for two weeks and came home from our trip with a cold. I am happy to hear they are hopefully getting your Mom's problems under control.
My cold is improving and I am almost human again.
I am so jealous of the retreat group, wish I could be there in person but I will have to just live it through the reports posted here.
We are having a nice steady much needed rain and I plan on getting into my sewing room shortly.
Hope everyone has a good day and a good week upcoming.

Morning all. I've been up for a little while now, reading posts, but I'm getting really stressed out. My new doctors office is trying to get me to go down roads I have been down before in order to get to a specialist I need to see. For some reason, they can't understand the words "No, that won't work" I have a very odd type of insurance, it isn't universally accepted, and I will lose it within 60 days. But they know everything! So upsetting right now - exactly what I don't need.

Today is probably another no sew day - because we are finishing painting my room, and working on woodwork. Lots to be done, but the sewing studio should be finished this week!

Good morning everyone.

Blondie: So glad your mother is on the mend. You all have been in my prayers everyday.

My little Gator seems to be doing better. He wasn't limping to much yesterday but still wanted me to carry him from place to place instead of him walking. This morning he jumped right off the bed and wanted out. So I am sure everything is fine.

No word from DH on when he will be home, but I am going to start doing some major house cleaning this week, so everything is in order when he gets home.

I can't believe this is the last day of September! It is a bit cool this morning and I have had to resort to getting my sweats out. :( The forecast is for more summer like weather so I am not to concerned about getting cold. Besides the fact that our furnace needs a new thermostat before I can turn it on. And I have no wood if I needed to build a fire in the wood stove. So here is hoping the warm weather stays until DH can get home and fix the furnace thermostat.

Hope everyone has a wonderful day.
Hugs and prayers to all.

Blondie, I was so happy to hear from you today.. Still saying prayers for your Mom's recovery and your strength to see her thru this trying time. Know that you are loved and missed.

Recuperating from the week end out of state guests. Friends are so nice to see and spend time with. But require more energy as I get older. Had the best talks and wonderful Pizza!!

I've got a sewing room to clean and get ready for the "next" project. Applique a spider onto a quilt. And do something up for Supper tonight. That ought to keep me out of trouble for today. Prayers and hugs being sent to all.

Glad to hear from you... Prayers and thoughts are coming strong from here... that's a given!!!!! :)

Hi Sweet Blondie, Prayers are still being said for your Mom to be ok, and for you to keep up the strength it takes taking care of everyone. Blessings on you dear friend!
Hello to everyone else! I have been missing due to surgery. I managed to rip the rotator cuff, tendon, and other muscle right off the bone. Plus, my arm was dislocated so every time I used it, it was fraying muscle it landed against. The moral to this story? NEVER, EVER, reach out with your left hand to pick up a tube of Orajel off Rite Aid's shelf. That is all I did to do attain this injury! I'm supposed to be on a plane to Mo. today. Hope everyone has a blast. I am really upset with myself that I can't be there!
Anyway, the Doctor says it will be a year to a year and a half before we know just how much use I will have left in my arm and shoulder. I am in PT. but they are being really careful with me. I have graduated to a sling during the day, but I have to be in a swath and sling at night. They keep saying, "Now, don't get frustrated", Ha! Easier said than done. I'm trying really hard not to be but it is work. The Doctor laughed at me right after surgery. He said I was the first patient ever, to ask, when can I sew???? The answer is still "not yet Jan." Bah, Humbug!!!
I did find out that making the bed up with fresh sheets one handed, takes 45 minutes! It was something to do. LOL I am Bored out of my mind. You can only read, and watch so much T.V.
I hope to be on more. At least I can type two handed again but it takes a while as I have to rest my arm frequently. Love, Hugs and Prayers for everyone, and safe travel for all the people traveling to Missouri, Jan L.
