View Full Version : First Day of Spring - Sunday March 20

March 20th, 2011, 09:05 AM

Good Morning (or evening as it may be) Lovely Ladies
Officially the first day of Spring; will be going to church for the first time in a month. I can't believe it has been that long since I have been.

Yesterday was totally awesome as far as weather goes. I hated that I had to work have of it. When I was able to get home and changed, I worked outside with the hubs for a little while. Still raking up old brown leaves that we left for a blanket for some of our perennials. The quince is in full bloom as if osur forsythia. Dogwoods are setting their buds and my tulip tree is blooming.

This morning there is a chill in the air, may get rain later, I am just wanting to chill and enjoy a day feeling healthy.

Giving thanks to our Lord for this day, family and dear friends.

Ah.....Spring! Dark & dreary here, good for sleeping in but I am an early bird and love my quiet morning time. Speaking of birds, saw a robin yesterday! That always an exciting event for me for some reason. I have potatoes par boiling for our Sunday family dinner and will bake a cake in a bit. BFs family usually comes over every Sunday. Today it's ribs & beer can chicken on the grill.
Yesterday I got lots of work done on the Surfer Girl quilts & might get a chance to stitch a few more blocks today, at least I am hoping so!
Wishing you a happy first day of spring!

Well, the sun is shining here. Yesterday was dreary - guess it is moving eastward. I wound up taking a nap yesterday (AGAIN!) and opened a window. Had a nice thunderstorm and gentle rain to lull me to sleepy land. Also rained overnight but things look fresh and renewed for SPRING! The crocus are up - I haven't checked my tulip trees yet but they always bud out about this time of year.

Hubby comes home late this afternoon so I think I need to get a few things picked up around the house so he thinks I've been really busy. And I have been - I have Zoe's NEW and IMPROVED quilt top sandwiched on the frame. Made another 8 blocks for the Wild Thing swap. Cut out the rest of the blocks for Rita's quilt. Cut out part of the pieces for the first BOM for our local quilt guild. And I got to sleep and nap. Maybe I should dust and sweep today though.

I hope Paula gets some good rest today, Patti doesn't eat too much (save me some ribs - my very favorite food of all time), and Blondie gets lifted up in Joy!! Anyone who hasn't checked in as yet, know that I'm thinking of you.!!

Happy spring to you all!! I just got off the mower. First cut of the season and let me tell you it needed it bad! Worse than I thought. I only got the mower stuck one time behind the pond.Whoops:( My DH told me not to go back there..I knew better but just couldn't resist. He drug me out with the truck anyway.Gina good luck with the Dr. appointment. Our teacher in our room at school had thyroid cancer as well and she just had 1/2 of hers removed. She is doing great. 24 years old.Thats young. Don't think I will get any sewing done today. Have a big pot of chicken and dumplings going for this afternoon. To all of you still dealing with the yucky cold weather.. Hang in there it is coming for sure. Hugs

 Thankyou Blondie, and I'm sure Mary Poppins would approve of your use of her word, I've always thought it was a great word. The day is actually over for me but I spent it with my daughter and her family eating far too much food and lovely cake. Plus my baby boy phoned me in the morning so it was a perfect day. I hope it is a great day for everyone else, Spring is such a great time of year with all the new growth and baby animals around, I love it.

Hey all - I have missed you! Lancaster was great - it was me, my sister, and my bestest friend since 1st grade on Thursday night. Then, my neighbor and 2 more friends came friday night. We shopped and looked for 3 days straight. Can you believe there are so many great fabric shops that we never got to the actual show at the Convention Center in downtown Lancaster - haha! Maybe next year. Can you also believe that I forgot my camera and got 0 photos. And I wasn't the only one - noone brought their camera. Guess we were all excited to get there and see each other. So home again - still have to unpack, but I am enjoying sitting here listenting to Odie talking down the hall to his brother while I'm checking in here. Did buy some fabric of course and am re-engerized to start sewing again.
Off to check out the new posts I missed and see if there are any new projects you all finished for me to enjoy viewing.

Hugs for you Gina - your move sounds exciting and hope you get to feeling better soon.

Hello all. Yes spring is in the air, although we are supposed to get that nasty four letter word tomorrow. 5-10cm or 2-4 inches and then rain. Maybe the rain will wash it all away. Well what a weekend. Took my granddaughter back home and spent the weekend. Took by baby granddaughter and bought her her first walking shoes. She just loved them. She is so much fun to be with right now, she will be 1 at the end of this month. Certainly the apple of our eyes.

A new week starts minus children. No matter how blessed they are it will be nice to get back to normal again. Who knows I might get in some quilting.

Well night, night all!!

Back from a conference today, and back to reality. That gets both a yuck and yay! I am glad to be home, but here is to another busy week ahead. I hope you all are feeling well again; it looks like at least Blondie and me are feeling much better.
Nighty night!

Happy Birthday Lynn!
We went away to the beach for my birthday on the 18th. I'm not so sure it was a relaxing time for me, but we had a great time with Em at the beach. We really lucked out on the weather on the Western Washington coast this time of year. Mostly dry during the days. We drove about an hour North and hiked in the Olympic rain forest a bit.

I got a new washer and dryer for my birthday. :icon_rolleyes: Not very exciting, but the dryer has been eating clothes for nearly two years. The drum rollers have worn out and the drum tips forward causing gap at the top, which loves to snack on zippers and has developed an affinity for quilting cottons and my underwear. It chews holes in them and/or leaves big rust marks where it bites the fabric. The day we left, the washer quit agitating. Unless you hold down the top of the agitator it just makes a strange grinding noise while the clothes sit in soapy water. So, Sears was having an appliance sale(20%), and tonight they were offering an additional 15% off between 6 & 9PM. I get my new washer & dryer on Wednesday. They will haul off the old ones for $10. We figure the washer and dryer are about 20+years old. We got the new High Efficiency top load model. We ought to pay for the machine in about 3 or 4 years with the soap, water, and power we save. I want to put up a clothes line this spring for nice weather. That will save even more electricity!

Anyhow! I need to get the last of things put away and get some sleep! The folks upstairs started stomping about around 5:30 this morning. UGH!

I'll catch up on things around here tomorrow morning. Take care!
