View Full Version : I was wondering: how old are we? On my regular sewing forum I'm one of the three silver foxes..

...LOL Here I feel we are many seasoned ladies. Am I right?
I love my Norwegian forum too but most of the girls are between 25-40.
It is a wide specter, - I think the youngest is 14 and the oldest near 70.

Perhaps this is not looked upon with approval, - if I'm out of line please delete the thread.

Hugs from 56 years old Eva Mari :)

This old lady is 67, feel like a million dollars - all green and wrinkled.
Actually, most people think I am about 20 years younger than I really am.

Well, a Southern Lady NEVAH tells her age, bless her heart, but since at times I feel you are all my sisters, then you already know that I am ~ eek~ 59! OMG, I just had an anxiety attack typing that.
I still feel 25. Really. Now, for looks? I don't look closely these days because I have found that it is only in MY mirror that I look okay . Sort of like the gal in the Seinfeld episode where she looks good in some light and very scarey in others? Yep, that be me.

I hit the bottle too every couple of months. Nice and Easy, that's my style.

I wondered about ages all the time, thanks for asking, Eva Mari! I just turned 47 in January. Blondie, your vivacity fooled me into thinking you were a good 20 years younger. I know what you mean about mirrors, since I own the only accurate one I've seen so far :-).

Started playing with quilting about a year and a half ago when I was 58 ish. Will be 60 in April. My grandmother quilted until she was 99. My mom asked me what took me so long to start quilting :)

Decided God didn't make mistakes and if he chose for me to be grey them I was going to be proud of it. I love this forum you are all so nice and helpful it a pleasure to be a part of this. Linda

I just received my 2nd check earlier this month. Guess that makes me 62, and I might as well be proud of it. Although when I went to get my hair trimmed today I told the gal "I don't care what you do as long as you don't give me an 'old lady' hair cut"

I am just happy to be alive, after a couple of close calls in my lifetime.

What a great question! I'm 44, and thanks to my hairdresser, still a redhead. Does anyone know why your eyes don't get better, getting over 40? We're not supposed too look that close anymore....

March 17th, 2011, 07:23 AM
Rebecca, our birtrhday's are close - I will turn 60 on December 18th. What a great gift you were to your parents~!
Deb, thank you for your kind words. Even my children don't think of me as "old" - well most of the time, hehehe.
Lenie, that issue with the eyes can work to our advantage. My husband still sees me through his rose colored vision. Told me this morning that I still cleaned up good.

Happy Birthday to everyone ! I will turn 60 on December 19th and I don't really care. For some reason, 59 really wigged me out but now that it's been here awhile, I don't really care. It's just a number. When we moved to Lancaster County, I quit my "city" job and found a job at a plant farm. Hard work but I love it. Flowers are as much fun as fabric.

Looks like I'm playing in the senior league as well, being 58 on my ID. But without glasses I think I'll pass for a lot younger.

I always tell my husband, as long as our son (a heavy-metall musician) is still inviting us to his concerts, we can't be that old. At least we don't feel that old.

I don't mind being asked my age. Here in Luxembourg alot of elder people won't talk about it. I think you shouldn't be ashamed of grey hair, wrinkles, old agespots (on hands). That only makes you more interesting.

Greetings from a youngster from the G.D. of Luxembourbg

Hey Blondie,

I guess your parents and my parents had some serious spring fever goin' on in April! Do you like having your birthday so close to Christmas? I always liked it. My parents would celebrate it Christmas eve with a nice dinner in the dining room, cake and ice cream and then I would get to open my birthday gifts. I always liked it that I got to start opening gifts before everybody else. I also liked it that I knew Santa was coming and more gifts would be waiting on Christmas morning.

BTW, isn't it so nice when hubby pays you a compliment?

When we turn 62 do we automatically receive social security checks or do we have to apply for it?

Sandy Navas
March 19th, 2011, 07:09 PM
I had to apply - you have a choice whether you want it at 62 or want to wait until you are 65. If you wait until 65 you will get 'more' but I've lost friends before they got there . . .

hey Rebecca, happy spring - yes, I think our folks were in the midst of spring fever, lol. I almost never got birthday presents and only one time as a child do I remember a birthday cake. My maternal grandmother made me a cake for my 16th birthday - she said it was a birthday most girls always remember. Well, the only thing I do remember that one for is the lovely cake she made me.

Thanks for the Birthday wishes! I did have a nice time with my husband and daughter at the beach. I still think of myself as young. My body argues sometimes, but I guess I'd rather wear out instead of rust out! That's why they make ibuprofin....
I can now say I'm 40!
I have been seriously quilting for about 12 years. I have been sewing longer than that though. Mom & Grandma taught me when I was a kid, and I made a lot of doll clothes, aprons, pillows and curtains.
