Good Morning, Lovely Ladies
I have been awake since 3 a.m. woke up with the mother of all hot flashes. Been awhile since I had one of those burning down the house moments. Sigh. Mother Nature's way of reminding me that "I am Woman, hear me roar?" Can 't get back to sleep yet, need a shower before work, too tired to go down to the basement to sew, SO, here I sit.
I played some Frontierville on FB; bores me too much so I am surfing and thought I would peek in quickly. Last few times I tried at this time of morning I was unable to get in.

Today is supposed to be a nice weather day; I declare all this weather has really given me spring fever. Hubs needs to work on the kitchen sink plumbing and pick up the new printer for his computer while I am at work.

I will be checking in later after work to see Wassup!

Hello Blondie I am here with you although it is evening here. I have come home from having a meal out, it's been a long time since we've done that. We walked to the restaurant, it is a lovely evening out.

I will sympathise with you on the score of hot flashes, even after having the chemo push me through several years of it in six months I occasionally get them...not nice.

I hope your day improves, take it steady, early starts mean tiredness and tiredness means mistakes.

By the way when you lovely DH finishes with your drains, can I borrow him, mine are shocking and short of pulling up the floors and the concrete to totally replace them, they are no fixable so it is a constant battle to keep them working.

Have a good day, if you can and a great big 'good morning' to everyone else.

Well ladies Im right there with you. The medications thy give me in treatment maded me abit restless this time. Hey I will take that over the last time.
I played games for awile but that couldnt keep my mind for awhile. I dont know what kinda trouble to cause today, I am staying close to home and will be alone.
Have a great time all!

Good morning everyone. The wind woke me up this morning. We are under a high wind warning until tonight. I went to my guild meeting last night. We had a trunk show given by a woman that is doing a Ricky Tims Convergence quilt class. She had traveled overseas with her husband and had some beautiful quilts. She had spent some time in Haiti. She had the ladies embrodier quilt blocks of the things the people do in the village. It was a beautiful quilt.

Have a great day

Good morning everyone.....the cats have had their breakfast, faces and whiskers washed and now settled back to sleep. And now I am UP! I finished watching the Fons and Porter show, picking up a few tips as best I can. I still get hot flashes even though I have had a total hysterectomy. Nobody told me they would still continue! But they are slowly becoming less and less. Funny how they never appear when it's cold but really spring out during the summer!! Aging is a wonderful process. :icon_razz:

A GREAT BIG GOOD DAY to everyone who 'beat me up' this morning - even Lynn who is probably in bed by now. Don't like getting up so early in the morning, especially when there is nothing URGENT pulling at me . . . like Orson Wells said "We will serve no wine before it's time . . " Well, I don't want to be served up yet because 'it ain't time'.

Haven't had any of the internal heat waves hit me for a while, though I would probably welcome one right now to take a little bit of chill out of the air. Our creator sure pulled some cruel tricks on we females. But, he made men smelly, hairy, and crabby so I guess we should call it even. :icon_wave:

I have a couple large stacks of 'acquired' stash-builders to attend to this morning. Finished the label for Al's mother's lap quilt so I have to get that sewn on and the binding in place. Maybe I can get Al to get it to the USPS before they close at noon today. She is doing so much better and has even been talking on the telephone, staying up in her wheelchair several hours a day. Quite an improvement. There may be long years left in this 'li'l ole lady' yet.

I'm off to the races . . . I'll be the one straggling in at the end of the race though. Hopefully, before the day is over, I can get a good shot of adrenalin or something similar to 'beam me up'.

February 19th, 2011, 09:26 AM
Wow. Aren't you all an early bunch? I'm already at work, eating my breakfast and waiting for the day to start. I fed the horses and now I've just got to wait for them to eat so I can start putting them back into the fields or getting them ready for their day. Maybe after all the students are through I'll get on this evening. Have a blessed day everyone!

February 19th, 2011, 09:58 AM
Good morning everyone. Everyone seems up and ready to start the day.

I was in bed early last night and slept in an hour later than usual. We have the high winds here too - I'm sure there will be lots of branches to pick up when Spring fnally arrives. Hey - maybe these are the March winds that come in like a lion and go out like a lamb. Happening in the middle of February is good - maybe that lamb will arrive lots sooner this year.

A day to do whatever I want. I do have a list though. And I'm not putting my quilting as the last thing.

A meeting with the Superintendent at school on Monday is in order. DH was told to leave while he was subbing yesterday. Seems someBODY told the principal that a few weeks ago he tried to take a sweatshirt off of a kid in class. They wouldn't say WHO. DH was flabbergasted! He's had 18 years of coaching boys and girls in 4 different sports, 3 years of subbing at the school, 3 years at Day Camp Director to 400 kids at the summer program at the State Park and a complaint from a few weeks ago - they tell him to go home? Something is fishy here. He signs his name when he writes a kid up, yet they won't tell him who the complaint is from? We even think it could be from an adult that's mad about him going in subbing with the Life Skills teacher. She is leaving in 2 weeks and some of the faculty don't like her so it could be someone trying to get at her. Her Aide is off for 2 weeks and he was asked to go in and help out. Some are mad that they are paying a teacher's sub salary for the Aides job. Or it could be a kid he wrote up which he only does if they are really disrespcectful or foul languague. And they are trying to get back at him. Anyways, a meeting is in order cause this is riducleous.
We are going to 'calm down' about it this weekend so we can go in there without shouting on Monday, but I hope I don't walk out of there retiring early. This backstabbing between faculty members has been going on too long.

Wrote a little more of my quilty list last night - more to do today. Finding things I forgot about that I really want to finish. I like to organize if I'm in the mood. I'd love a job doing that for other people.

Well, off to check some more sites so I can get off the computer this morning. Had to go out and find the kitty with this high wind. He wanted out, but then hid for me to come get him. Too funny.

Have a great day and I'll check in later!

February 19th, 2011, 10:04 AM
Well it is Saturday indeed. We are also having the high winds. The temperature was +11C yesterday and we are now back to -7 this morning. Slept very poorly last night??????? Off to boot camp today. I guess I will be stiff and sore AGAIN tomorrow. Why do we do this to our body? I know I actually feel better doing at least some form of exercise.

Yesterday I got the binding cut for a quilt given to me. Might get that sewn on today. Woohoo got my freezer paper and I bought so much I would gladly share with any of you. LOL!!

Since I have been on cancer drugs as well for breast cancer I too know all about hot flashes. As my husband says every time I have one "It's not that kind of hot flash huh".

Have a great day, stay warm stay safe.

Good morning all! It must have been hot flash night last night. Up at midnight until about 2. Just couldn't get past it.

Trish, I don't know what to say. I used to be a substitute teacher too, over 10 years ago. You can't sneeze without upsetting someone. No telling who your DH upset over what. It used to be if you got in trouble at school, you got in trouble at home.

Today is BOM day, so getting off to go to quilt store 40 miles away.

Everyone have a blessed day.

February 19th, 2011, 10:59 AM
Windy here today too, and very sunny. More like March or April than February.

I've taken Prozac and other medication for over 20 years for a bipolar disorder... I was so pleased when my GYN told me that that type of medication almost eliminates hot flashes. Of course, you also gain weight and have other unpleasant side effects ---- but on the hot flashes, I win! I've been dealing with menopausal symptoms for about 2 years and nary a hot flash.

I'm always so happy to sign on here in the mornings and see what everyone has planned for their day and how you're doing.

Paula, how are you feeling?

Trish, I PM'd you - hang in there...

Sandy, I'm with you on early rising. Eight o'clock has such a nice ring to it but I only get to sleep that late on weekends.

When I read on here how many of my dear friends have had major surgeries and cancer and are going strong it makes me very grateful for modern medicine.

Off to the post office for Mike, he's working in the garage today. He's got a job at a local parts store and fixes cars on the side at home. His garage to him is like my sewing room is to me - a hobby place - so I don't feel too sorry for him having to work today, I know he's having fun, too.

Have a wonderful day all you early birds and the sleepyheads like me :-).

February 19th, 2011, 11:26 AM
Good morning Ladies. I don't have to work today but heaven knows I have more work to do around the house than enough....so I will be busy all day. I already washed 2 loads of clothes. Hopefully, by this evening I can settle down with some sewing. It looks like its going to be a beautiful day here in Pa although its not very warm out. Sun is shining brightly. Hope everyone has a wonderful day today. I'm sure I will be checking in here on and off all day. Love reading all the posts.

Good morning my lovely sisters! I see we are discussing the mighty power of Hot Flashes!
I had to have a hysterectomy at age 25. So was extremely surprised when I had bad Flashes when I was 55! They "forget" to tell you that can happen when they do the surgery. I had them bad too. Wake up in middle of the night dripping wet, Hotter than blue blazes! I'd get up, go shower, TRY to dry off, ( that was almost impossible) then I would have to lay clean towel over wet sheets, (didn't want to wake DH) and try to go back to sleep. Sometimes I did that 2 or 3 times a night. I didn't think they would ever leave. Believe it or not they put me on Estrogen before my back surgery to keep my bones healthy and to try and combat the "Inner Summer". Because they "forgot" to tell me I needed hormones at age 25 so now I have to take them for the rest of my life! My Orthopedic Dr. sent me to a gyn specialist before surgeries to make sure my bones wouldn't get brittle so that the two steel rods they put in my back wouldn't snap a bone.
Why do we have to go through all this. Wasn't childbirth good enough!?! Now we get internal infernos. This is no lie, my Mom had flashes so bad, she would excuse herself from her customer (she was a hairdresser) and go stand in a snowdrift and I actually watched her melt snow around her feet. Her gyn said she had the worst flashes he had ever seen in all his patients, ever! How come men can't share some of the responsibilities we women have to share. Although my husband swore he had them too. He said "I have them every time you do if I'm any where near you! I always said you were a red hot mama". It wasn't funny then either.
Paula, Joe and I pray for you everyday. You will get through the Chemo baby, just hang in there.
Trish we will say prayers for your DH. Kids now days can get people into more trouble by lying about them. However, let a kid hurt a teacher, or lie about the teacher and it's the teachers fault. If not the teacher it's the parents fault. My son and his wife were shocked one day recently when their 4 year old came home from school and told her father, "If you punish me I'll report you for child abuse". Joe about fell over. So they sat her down and explained that this wasn't funny. She's 4!!! She said her friend told her if she was going to be punished that's all she had to say and she wouldn't be punished. Boy am I glad I'm not raising kids now days!
It's snowing and windy here today. After it was 55 degrees yesterday, it is now 22 degrees and snowing. Give me a break. February is the longest shortest month of the year.!
Have a good day ladies!! Love you all, Jan

February 19th, 2011, 12:51 PM
Hi Lovely Ladies!
Just popped on for a second as I clean the house like a madwoman! Just a little more to do and off the market I go. Want to get it all done before the day gets away from me. BF is working all weekend so I am so excited to have this time to myself. Going to work on my son's quilt so I can get it done for his birthday and also cut the denim square for my rag quilt for Grand-dog, Max.
Trish - My DD is a special ed teacher with a master's degree and had most of her experience with austim students. She worked in a district that treated her the same way as your DH and it was so frustrating. She was constantly telling them she would not be on anyone's "side", school district or parents, as she was an advocate for the students she taught and what was best for them. The politics drove her nuts and she often called me crying at the unfairness of the many situations she found her self in. Once a parent accused her of hitting her son because of some marks on him, which is something my daughter would never do. This particular boy had a issue with self affliction and often came to school with black and blue marks. My poor girl had to go through the whole process of being investigated until the woman drank a considerable amount of wine one evening then called and emailed the school and my daughter to admit that she was wrong in accusing my daughter. A few years after that my DD fnally left and found a job in a district where she is appreciated and loves her job all over again. I feel for you and your DH because I know how stressful this can be.
I had a hot flash just reading about everyone's! I seem to get them bad once a month or so, and it's always when I am upset about something. It comes like the crazy crabbiness anger that I used to experience when I had a TOM, which, thank goodness, is long gone. Instead of blowing up at someone I just have a hot flash. My Mom's best friend, Wilma, used to always tell me....."it's hell getting old". I am just annoyed my 17 year mind has this 56 year old body attached to it...LOL
Well...my time limit is up but I will check in later to see how you all spent your day!

February 19th, 2011, 03:03 PM
Morning all!
It is clear and cold here too. The boys are out cutting down three ugly sitka willow trees that are falling down on the chicken coop, blocking the sun from the veggie garden, and generally being annoying. The goats will love the branches, and the wood will be added to the pile for next winter's heating. Then, if he can still move, Hubby will move the overly large lilac from in front of the house, to the spot where one of the willows was dug out. I can still see it from the windows, but it won't be blocking them!
I am still doing the last minute cleaning stuff, and will wait until this evening to vacuum. Emily & I picked out the cake mixes she wanted for her birthday cupcakes. We are having strawberry and yellow. Those will be baked today and frosted tonight. We made chocolate chip-banana muffins for breakfast. The house smells yummy.
Congrats Deb! You won the weekly giveaway! Whoo Hoo! Free fabric or quilter's cash!
I need to go out and take the stale bread out to the chickens and check the water tanks. I guess I had better get off of this box and get busy.
You all have a great day!

Trish, I just finished a 'faculty member' doll and I'm sticking straight pins it - so look for someone with band aids all over their body and you'll find your culprit. I'm so sick and tired of people NOT BEING ABLE to show respect and get along. No wonder this world is such a screwed up mess.

I told Al the other night that I was lucky I wasn't in jail after a trip to the gas station for ice. I was coming out with my arms loaded down, backed into the door to get it open and in waltzed this young man slick as a snake and he never said a word . . . of course I did!! I told him "Thank YOU, $%%$&^*^". No respect . . . and then I realized that my anger wasn't doing anyone any good either:icon_rolleyes:. So that makes ME part of the problem. I think I'll go crawl back in my little comfy hole in the ground . . .

February 19th, 2011, 04:01 PM
Thanks Sandy - throw a few more pins in it for me and DH too, will ya?

Hello ya all!!
One last quick message before I have to go to work ugh!!! :(:(
Hope all have safe and warm night and get some sewing done or at least snuggle with your other half or a cozy quilt. :icon_happy:
Which is what I would rather be doing instead of going out into the rain and cold. Supposed to drop into the 30's tonight and that means black ice on my winding and hilly road home.
I'll be lucky to leave the Moose Lodge at 10 pm. But with the function going on tonight who knows. The party can go on untill 1 am and I am tending the back bar and can't leave untill everyone is gone!!
Oh well , Sandy put a few pins in for me too. :icon_heh:
God Bless all of you now off to play with the Mooses!!!:lol:

Hi Y'all
Just getting home, what's the first thing I do? Oh, after kissing my Luscious yummy man? Of course, I park my backside here to see how everyone's day has been.

Shauna. that is one good looking quilt! I like how you arranged the rows and the colors go so well together. Great work! Lucky brother you have.

Well ladies at least as women we can all empathasize with our friendly Mother Nature. I am so thankful at times that I am past child bearing years, although there were times in my younger days with my ex that I was very happy to have PMS. Those were the days when I could really be ME. Yes, I admit I could be a handful back then. But then, he certainly deserved every well placed vowel and consonant that was hurled his way. I probably sounded more like that poor tv reporter who was speaking incoherently at the grammies. Did y'all see that on the news? Neurologists said it was a form of migraine. i get them from time to time but have never had that reaction; mine are usually light sensitive, nail piercing my eye and brain type of pain.

Still windy here. I agree with Trish; perhaps the spring will be a lamb after all this wind.

And speaking of Trish. Sandy, put a big fat tapestry needle in that there doll of yours. In certain parts where it is bound to get the attention. Since my hubs drives a school bus in the a.m. and pm. it is unbelieveable what kids can and do get away with. Mine has been accused of all kinds of stuff and so far, praise the Lord, he has been protected by the asst principal and principal because the claims have been pretty outrageous. However the reasons these kids and/or parents do make claims are basically because the kids don't want to get in trouble with their parents and the parents don't want to take responsibility for the actions of their children. Pardon me. I remember whacking the girl who told me there was NO santa claus and my teacher whacked me, the principal whacked me, my granny really whacked me all the long walk home and then when my folks got home, I really really really got whacked. All in all, I knew I was wrong after all but I sure held a grudge against santa for a long time.

I am on my second wind and sweet husband just brought me a delicious smelling cup of coffee. My DIL goes to Nicargua each year to work with the hearing impaired and last year she brought me back a nice bag of beans. It is my special treat. Gosh Sandy, does your husband not miss that wonderful colombian brew??

Off to find something to sew. Hugs all around.

February 19th, 2011, 07:32 PM
Good evening, all. Took my PC to Staples for a free tune-up and found the disk is FULL, so I need to be doing back ups and deleting old stuff. Cross your fingers for me, or say a prayer if you are so inclined, I have a couple of tall trees that need to come down in the spring and I'm hoping that they don't fall on the house with all this wind.

Good wishes coming to those of you having hot flashes, have a friend who has them bad but I never heard of her melting snow with her feet. That gave me a chuckle.

February 19th, 2011, 08:01 PM
Hey sandy...just make yourself a pincusion out of that doll so it won't seem so...so...aw heck, go ahead and stick pins in it!

Chemo stinks. But I'm still here. Doc said I would be dead in 5 months right to my face. That was 7 years ago. What did she know anyway????

February 19th, 2011, 08:11 PM

We have so many strong women in this group. That's one of the reasons I am happy here. Quilters never give up for some reason. In our blood there is gene I reckon that says there is a way around or through difficult times and I believe that we are all here by design.

Hugs to all my sisters going through this passage and to those on the other side, cheering. I think you are all incredible.

February 19th, 2011, 08:36 PM
Good evening all!

Sally, that is one great looking quilt! I'm sure your brother will LOVE it. I'm so glad you were able to post the picture.

Sandy, no hiding just because of a little @#&!&*@( to someone who deserved it... we need you here :-).

sewmuchjan, be careful on those roads tonight!

Pat, I hear ya on this wind. We had so many limbs coming down that Mike parked my car in the garage and did his best to get his truck out from under the trees - kind of hard since we're in the woods but some BIG branches coming down out front and the top of a tree snapped off and landed on our shed out back.

Having a grouchy afternoon and evening... I'm not so sure PMS went away just because the PM part did <G>. Been working all day on pinwheels from my Luna Notte layer cake and have just about put the top together for a lap quilt. Now, I love the fabric line and my pinwheels came out okay, but I'm just not loving the look. Oh well...

Hope everyone has a great evening!

Hi again!
Well the house is clean, laundry done and groceries put away. I was going to sew but I painted my nails and while they were drying I decided to click around on the internet looking at blogs and the next thing you know it's dark out! BF just called to say he is taking me out to dinner (good thing I painted my nails!) but won't be here for 45 minutes. Just enough time to check on here before I go on the great "what to wear" search!
Hope everyone has a great evening and as far as the aging discussion, I think Maxine describes it perfectly!

February 19th, 2011, 09:55 PM
Chemo stinks. But I'm still here. Doc said I would be dead in 5 months right to my face. That was 7 years ago. What did she know anyway????
Sometimes I think they do this to bring out our stubborn streak, they know women don't like being told what they can and can't do. So by telling us we have 5 months they know we will live just to spite them.

I asked my doctor how long before I could relax about things, how long before the risk of recurrence would decrease and was told that I was high risk at the time and I would always be high risk. My risk graph line doesn't go down hill...it's a flat line, so I live my life on that flat line. If he thought he would frighten me he was wrong, the way I look at it a flat line is better than one that goes up hill. :icon_bigsmile:

Sandy I bought a whole new lot of pins the other day, can I send them to you to stick in that doll?

Trish my thoughts are with you and your DH, as if you guys haven't had enough to think about lately. Sadly these things can be damaging even if you are shown to be innocent.

Well ladies, I'm excited!!!! My tumbler quilt is really coming together. Natalie's tumbler ruler "is the bomb" as my co-worker would say.

Also, with the BOM that I just got, will learn applique....another exciting thing to learn.

Hoping no one has hot flashes tonight, keeping my fingers crossed. :D

Y'all have a good night and a great tomorrow.

Sadly these things can be damaging even if you are shown to be innocent.

We had a school bus driver fired here the other day because a kid got sassy on the bus and the driver told him if he couldn't behave he could walk and the kid opted to walk. Granted the bus driver didn't have to let him off the bus (in the snow . . . oh, poor boy) and was fired for not following protocol, but I really think that is way too extreme.

I agree with Judge Judy when it comes to kids (teens) . . . she says you can tell when they are lying because their mouth is open . . . and it gets worse and worse and worse.

How true, Dragonfly. But in this instance, I decided to get a different doc with a team of caring individuals and while they may have thought the same thing, they went about the business of healing body, mind and soul, irregardless of what my chances were to be. :)
