Good Morning Folksies

Ever wake up and wonder what is so good about it? Yeah, and like, what is up with having the news on? I thought I was having a bad dream or something. It took me a while to get in here this morning. Poor hubs is a news hound. I am not. It isn't that I bury my head in the sand. No. Not at all. Let me tell you one of the secrets of my happiness

come 'er . . . Closer . . . I don't share this often or with many, but today is an exception . . .

I realized a long time ago that I have free will. That means choices. Oy. I can here you now; there she goes again with happiness is a choice thing. Most certainly it is. But how are you able to make that choice? I surround myself with good things for my ears to hear and eyes to see. I choose to not listen to the news 24/7. I actually have for the most part figured out when they going to have the weather on and will turn the channel just for that. I do NOT like doom and gloom first thing in the morning. Every news channel carries the local, national and international gloom. While I may not be able to change the whole world with my Pollyanna outlook and smile, I don't have to let the whole world change ME. I am a firm believer in being careful and aware of what I hear. Bad news doesn't have to be heard or read more than once. Junk comes in bunches. Wad it up and throw it away. Things get better. Joy gets restored. And for those who would like to know this, I write on the bottom of my shoes. I really do. I write, Satan you are defeated. I like walking over evil.

I am praying for this nation, for those involved in the marathon, for those in authority and those who need the strength to make it through this day. My cyber arms are around each one here who has deep seated fear over this terror in Boston - turn the tv off, turn your mind off and go outside and walk around, go to your sewing machine and make something for someone else.

Okay, besides the afternoon, my day yesterday was a good one. Today is going to be a different kinda day. It is not yet 6 a.m. and my plans for the day have already been changed. Ain't it a good thing I am woman and can roll with it?

Blessings to all. Hugs, prayers and I'm handing out smiles for you if you need one. Here's your SMILE.

Good morning Blondie. You and I are so alike, girlfriend. Well by now you all know it is my birthday. Thank you for the birthday wishes that have already come and for those to come. I am blessed with such wonderful people in my life. Today will just be another day I think. I won't come home for lunch today because this afternoon I have an appointment with the ENT specialist for a follow-up to my surgery I had 1 1/2 years ago. Yup. Now I can tell him it wasn't successful. I also have a sinus headache, throat and ears are itchy. It is a good time to see him today.

I did not get any quilting done yesterday because I received the traveling book and started reading it. It is a great read for sure. I should be done by the end of the week.

Hubby is getting so excited for his trip. He is leaving a week today for Ocean City, Maryland for a golf trip. He will be gone for a week. I sure wish I did not have to work. I could quilt all day instead.

My brother told me that there is a quilt show on the 27th and 28th in Arnprior, Ontario for those who live close to me. I will probably go on the Saturday after work. I am supposed to meet with friends for a seafood supper that night and I have a bridal shower to attend on the Sunday.

Have a wonderful day friends. We have rain today that will wash away the snow.

Good Morning all The sky is gray but the sun is struggling to get seen, t storms for this afternoon. Blondie you niled it with the Pollyanna attitude. I have been accused of that more often then not. My hubby is mr doomsday. With him out of work for a year he watches the news 24/7 and mumbles about everything bad . he is my half empty cup person where as I am the half full cup. well for some reason it works. another day at the store was very slow but monday typically is and is full of returns. today should be better. Everyine smile like Blondie says it makes your day brighter. enjoy

Good morning...up early again to get the guys off to the woods for Turkey hunting. They didn't have any luck yesterday. We have to laugh at our friend ET from Texas. He is not use to walking up and down hills and is quickly worn out! LOL. I think we are going to go to Springfield today after they get back from hunting. The guys need to get some black powder supplies. And we want to go out to eat at the amazing Chinese restaurant there. Yum!

I have a package ready to send to Marilyn for the Children's Hospital but our printer ran out of ink so I can't print my shipping label. We will get printer cartridges today if we go to Springfield and then I can get a label printed and get them on the way to her.

I am looking forward to my 2 weeks of peace and quiet when DH and E.T. go to their black powder rendezvous in another week or so. Then I can get back to my sewing machine and get some UFOs completed and catch up on my Secret Santa swap. It is so hard to get anything done with the guys around.

Hope everyone has a great day. Hugs and prayers to all in need.

Good morning. Prayers for the families of those killed, injured, or affected in any way by the bombings in Boston. DH is sick with a cold, allergies, or something and when he's sick we're both miserable! He's not a good patient at all! He (and I) was up several times during the night. I suggested to him this morning to take it easy the next few days or he could end up with pneumonia. I'm pretty sure my advice went in one ear and out the other. Time will tell. I'm off to get ready for work.

April 16th, 2013, 08:52 AM

My hubs has the news on every morning...I was sitting there trying to wake up and I looked at him and said "have they had any local news on this morning"...I don't know what he said because I went back to sleep or something. I don't mind watching or listening to the news but when it begins to repeat...I turn it off. I know they have to do that for the people that are watching at different times. I have better things to do than listen to repeat news all day - like watch repeat sitcoms *lol*

My thoughts and prayers are with everyone that has been affected by the tragic events at the marathon yesterday.

I should have the top of my maple leaf quilt finished tonight (if I get no interuptions) except for the borders...so hopefully before the week-end I will have the top all finished up. I ordered some samples of backing fabric so I can do some matching - they are on their way to me. I think when I get the top finished I'm going to take a break and get a few other projects done before the quilting starts on that, because the quilting is going to take a while to do.

Have a wonderful day! Prayers and hugs

Good morning everyone. I am up, trying to drink my coffee and motivate myself to get ready for work. Going to work in Springfield today, try to figure out some plans for the Lebanon location, it's a thorn in my side, for every step of progress there I take 2 steps back...it's frustrating...

I am working on putting a single layer binding on a miniature quilt...the instructions say to use a blind stitch so the stitches don't show thru to the front.....I can't seem to understand the concept or how to do it....

Everyone have a great day!!

April 16th, 2013, 09:30 AM
Good morning, Blondie and my other quilting friends. I want to start out the day with a smile and good thoughts, too. You are absolutely right....we don't always have choices about what happens, but we do have choices on how we react to what life gives us. I need to remind myself of that often.

Am hoping to get my sewing machine to the shop today for cleaning and fixing. Been having troubles with the tension and have tried all the at-home fixes. Hope he doesn't have to have it too long! :)

Have a great day everyone. I hope to get caught up on the forum before I start my day.

Good Morning All and Happy Birthday Monique!
My Autumn is getting worse and I think I'm going to have to make a hard decision this Friday if not before. My heart is breaking :( I've decided that I'm not getting another golden. I've lost 5 in 13 years and I just can't do it anymore. It's too hard.
I've been praying for those that are impacted by bombs and Blondie I think I need to take your advice. I let the news suck me in yesterday and that is all I could think about between that and Autumn my day was pretty bad. I felt aweful all day. So I think I'm going to say goodbye to the news too.
It's Tuesday and I still don't have my quilt quilted for my friend. I need to get that done this week as I have a stack of material waiting on me. My nieces quilt, two new great niece/nephews on the way and my neighbor is having another baby boy and they all need receiving blankets, quilts and burp cloths. I still have my moms quilt (trying to decide on a pattern) to get to and my own.
Have a blessed week everyone!

Good morning all!

I am saying many prayers this morning for those that don't choose to be happy, those that need help and don't know it and for those that are affected by the horror in Boston.

If you choose to be happy you look at the world a little differently and it makes it easier to see the positive in things. Blondie knows what she is talking about.

April 16th, 2013, 10:54 AM
Happy Birthday Monique...I hope you enjoy your day!!!

April 16th, 2013, 11:01 AM
Blondie...I could not agree with you more. I used to cry over the news, become agitated, angry, upset and frustrated...is there NO good news in this world?! I made a decision a long time ago to not pay attention to it anymore and it completely changed my life. It's not that I don't care, it's that I care FAR too MUCH! I can't change it, believe me I have tried and tried! So in order to save myself, I expose myself to only what I can handle. I still do get upset, but I limit it. Thank you so much for this reminder.

Have a wonderful day everyone and (((((((((HUGS))))))))))) to you all!!

Hi Blondie and Everyone
This subject matter is very apt for me right now as l'm really struggling to get past how sad l'm feeling right now .. l'm normally a happy cheerful mischeavous person with wicked sense of humour. But l think at the moment with the addition of the medical problems of my knee and the pain l'm going through at the moment its really hard to smile and be the mischeavous that l know am shes still there but at the moment shes gone into hiding.. She will make a come back eventually but not for awhile. l apologise if l am negative at the moment.

April 16th, 2013, 11:42 AM
Blondie, you sure know how to make ones day start with a smile. Like you I pray for those affected in Boston, but don't need to drown my self in the continuing, repeated events of yesterday.
Just got a call that DSD was rushed to the hospital with pancreatitis. DH is on his way there now. I am much to ill to go with him.
I also pray for those that don't choose to be happy, as well as those that spend so much energy trying to make others unhappy. I just figure those that do that, really aren't happy themselves, and want other to be as unhappy as them. I feel sorry for people that get their happiness at the expense of others feelings. As tough as some of us are, we still have feelings. I also feel sorry for those that have the need to constantly seek approval of others, their self esteem but be very low.
Hugs and blessings to all. Prayers for those in need, and especially for all the negativity, that has become the norm.

Good Tuesday to you all, and HAPPY BIRTHDAY, Monique!!!

Yesterday's events only bring up all the memories of a gorgeous sunny autumn morning in NYC and well, having lived it once, I am just rattled by Boston.

But I don't know many marathon runners, right? And then, on Facebook this article from my hometown paper shows a runner I used to know very well.... She's 61 now and declared last night she had run her last marathon--she finished just minutes before the first bomb...

So, no, I won't watch clips over and over, I won't pore over photos or obsessively read news articles, but ...it is there, and it's not something you can truly get away from. All I know is how glad I am that my TV antenna went up with the WTC and I didn't have to watch reports then. Living it was plenty.

So, in a few minutes I am going to bump up a thread over in quilting, with a photo of what I did yesterday...

Take care all, and hug the person next to you. They probably need it, even if they don't know it yet.

Good Morning to all. I am new here, so I am enjoying meeting all of you. Blondie, I, too, lilke your attitude. We can all make choices. we also have to live with our choices. Free will is a great thing. My DH is going to a funeral of an aquaintance's mother. He has known the aquaintance for four years. He has never met his mother. The aquantaince is in the same HAM group as DH. That is all of the associating they do. He just asked is it bad that I don't really want to go? I told him that was a choice he will have to make. Choices...that is what it is all about. I told him it was up to him. I think he is going to support Todd.

Tonight, we are going to a class on quilt designing for our Bernina 830. I am excited. DH (Lowell) is a quilter, too. He is still in the stash collecting phase. He has been to three retreats with me. We have been to Nebraska twice, Penn, and Illinois, This year we are off to Atlanta, GA. We like to travel so these retreats are a lot of fun. We belong to an online quilt group and so we meet people from all over.

Seems like the month of April is going by so fast. We have been super busy. Last Tuesday our three grandchildren who live in Amarillo came for a visit. They (the kids 8,7 and 1.5) staid one night. Thursday, we had a class, Friday our son had colon cancer surgery and their two daughters staid with us. They are 13 and 11. They went home yesterday. Now this week begins.
Wednesday is Dallas Sports Car Club monthy dinner. Pizza is the place of choice for this month. Thursday I am going with our daughters Misty, Margot and Bunny (middle name is Michelle) to see Wicked. Friday is family dinner with my two brother, one sister and cousin and all of the spouses. It is a monthly get toghether. Mexican food is the choice for this month. We will celebrate birthdays for my brother Jay and his wife, Teresa. Then the weekend begins. No plans yet......my be a good time to sew.

Prayers for our nation and for Boston are being sent. Hope and pray you all have a great week. Be safe.

Thank you, Blondie! I got to work today to find I was being "blamed" for things I did correctly and upon the instructions of upper management. Not worried about it, but it can sort of set your morning off to a bad start. Anyway, I realized something must be going on in the department, or in the personal lives of those who are criticizing me. Normally we all get along famously. So I said a prayer for them, and felt much better.

Then I read about you writing on your shoes, and said, "Hallelujah!" right out loud!! :D So glad for 1 Corinthians 15:57!

Hugs and blessings,
~ Sally \0/

p.s. Welcome, Connie and Lowell!

Both Mr D and I are news hounds. but only once a day. We watch the 6 o'clock news, have a rant and then leave it alone. My thoughts are with Boston and keeping fingers crossed that nothing simular happens at the London Marathon this weekend. We also have a big event tomorrow with the funeral of Margaret Thatcher which is making us very nervous. She was a woman who devided the country in life and continues to do so in death. There will be protests along the route and police are preparing. Lets hope that everyone exercises their right to PEACEFUL protest and that things don't get out of hand.

I could say more on this subject .....actually could rant for a week, but I won't. Instead I will learn a lesson from Blondie, but I will have to go 'ommmmmmmmmmm' a lot for the next 24 hours lol

First of all

Happy Birthday Monique!!! I hope you have a great day and it is how you imagined it to be!!!

Also a good afternoon/evening to all other quilting friends!

My hubby always reads the news when he comes home. The first thing he does is grab a cup of coffee and sit down and read the news online. In those 20 minutes I may not, under no circumstances, disturb him in any way. Sometimes he would share some news he found extraodinary in any way. Be it bad or good. Because he knows that I don't care so much about news. Not a bit. The very important ones get to me any way somehow. Like the news about the marathon. My thoughts are with the ones affected. It's horrible! I chose to not care so much.Because I just don't see the point! I don't wanna upset myself over things that I can't change anymore.

When I opened my postbox this morning, I was surprised to find the package that I was waiting for OVER A MONTH. FInally!!! It's so long ago that I didn't even remember what I had ordered. Isn't that hilarious?! Well, it was 2 scrap bags of 2 different lines (each contains about 11 different prints from the same line) but they are around 6 inches each. So they cost around double as much as a charmpack but are worth it! I will order them again I think. Also I had ordered one charmpack and 2 yards of coordinating fabrics of one of the scrap bags. That gives me many fabrics for bags! (Remember? Some days ago I mentioned that the bag-bug has bitten me!)

Have a great day everyone! ( or whats left of it ;) )

Hugs, Steffie

I know what you're feeling I had to let mine go when he was 8 1/2 years...he had cancer. I still miss him. I didn't get another golden because I just couldn't...I got a lab/border collie mix.

Haven't had a chance to read all the posts yet but wanted to say "hello".
Blondie, I so agree with you! I had to turn the TV off yesterday because it was too depressing.
About a year ago, maybe a little more, my hubby was coming home depressed and was getting headaches. One day while we were out running errands, he changed the radio station to talk radio. They talked about all the worlds problems. It was then that he told me he listened to it every night at work. I told him he was not allowed to listen to it anymore! They talked about things that we could not change and things that we cannot fix....I was depressed in just the few minutes that we were listening to it. Since then he's happy again and the headaches have gone away.
We know that there are many problems out there but we don't need to have them drilled into our heads and our hearts every minute of every day.
You give good advice...listen to some good music, watch a funny movie...lighten your heart from the troubles of the world for awhile...OR you could make a quilt!

Choices, good or bad, they are yours. I gave up listening to the news years back and have never been happier. The Doom and Gloom and sensationalizing of it have stuck in my craw all my life. I wish they had a GOOD NEWs channel to watch or listen to. But that doesn't "sell" . Sometimes I feel like we are back in the Spanish Inquisition cheering every time someone's head came off. Everyone (news programmers) want to be the FIRST to "tell ya all about it"... ramming the TRUTH home. It's all propaganda and competition and ratings and MONEY..

It has begun to desensitize everyone, Believe me I CARE, I just don't want it laying on my table 24/7. (off my soap box, now)

I'm working on a Spring Quilt.. and it's almost quilted and needs it's binding. My traveling diamonds

I love your quilt Judy, very pretty...Happy Bithday Monique...and Blondie I agree 100% with you....I learned my lesson when the Twin Towers came down...I was so depressed I kept going to bed...that was when we realized I had a BIG problem...I don't watch the news....I catch some at work and that is enough...so I don't know everything...and I am much happier for it and I choose happiness as well....love the saying on your shoes...what a great idea!
