View Full Version : Thursday - my back to work day

April 11th, 2013, 06:34 AM

Hello Folksies!

Yessir, it's Thursday. Gonna be Thursday all day. And it's gonna feel like summer once again, I do believe. Yessir. When I nail something, I think it is a job done. Like I said last week, I said, "Here we are in overcoats. Next week we will be wanting to turn the hose on ourselves to cool down" Yessir, that's what I said. We are going straight from winter to summer here in my little region. And it is only human nature to be dissasatified and find SOMETHING to grump about. It is much nicer to grump about weather than people. It is also more acceptable. lol. And the bumpy ride y'all out there in the vast midwest received we shall be enjoying that dubious ride tonite.

Yesterday was a very long and exhausting day. It takes us a good hour to get to the city and back. We had HOURS at the retina specialist. Mind you, the procedure he performed only takes about one minute. The rest of the time is preliminary stuff and paper shuffling and then waiting time. The office was packed like sardines. I do not do well in crowds, so you know I was not a happy camper. I did smile through it all. I had carried my quilting bag with a few magazines in it. I finished the binding on the a COC and will be ready to start another one soon.
We were all so exhausted from being in the dr office for so many hours with so many people, it was also hot as blue blazes and they did not have it cool enough, sooo, on the way home we never made it to Tuesday Morning or Big Lots. We were all too pooped to pop. It is also exhausting to sit in a waiting room full of optically challenged peeps of all ages - although the majority of them are aged about 20 plenty. I leaned into Sis and whispered that it was extra warm in there because of all the hot air. As in the Mister Man sitting next to me. Oy. So, we go again in two weeks for a follow up to make sure this procedure went okay. It is amazing to me what can be done medically.

Hope everyone has plenty today. Plenty of peace, contentment, sunshine, cool breezes, rainbows, hearts in clouds, birds singing, puppy breath kisses . . . and of course . . . smiles.

Blessings to all

I'm exhausted just reading about your day yesterday! I hope you get to do some relaxing today! It's sad that spring seems to be disappearing or not lasting as long as in the past. I guess it's that global warming problem we keep reading about. Hopefully, your heat spell will subside and you'll get some cooler days so you can really enjoy your gardening. When we lived in Houston, Joe and my brother-in-law built three above ground gardens in our backyard. Joe makes fun of me because I didn't have any interest in working in that garden. It was just too darned hot so much of the year that I had no desire to be out there. Also, two little ones kept me plenty busy. I was thinking about that garden the other day, wondering if the owners took it out or if they use it. I hope they use it. It certainly was nice for reaping what we did manage to grow out there. Houston has two seasons - hot and not quite so hot!

Good morning all,

Blondie, sounds like a long day!! I haaaaate waiting and especially if its a hurry up and wait kinda thing. Hope everything goes well with it!

Yesterday when I went to work it was 70 degrees, this morning it's 35 degrees....yikes!! It stormed like the dickens for a while, and thankfully no tornadoes around here!

Work is on the agenda today, with a late afternoon monthly report card meeting on how well my locations did on profits and loss...joy joy!!i hate this because generally they ask a question, wanting an opinion, and by golly I always have one, but really they don't want to hear the truth...so it generally gets me in trouble....and the other 5 gm's wouldn't know their heads from a hole in the ground, so needless to say...they always call my name....it a vicious cycle...but I can put up the numbers, run a tight ship at my locations(my employees would say I am a control freak...) so generally it's just my mouth that gets me in trouble so they put up,with that for the dollar signs. If I could only remember.....don't say it.....don't say it... Ok, I will try again today.

I am looking forward to the weekend, as I am off this Saturday...a rarity in the restaurant biz. My dd has her prom...so lots of girly stuff and pictures pictures pictures!! Then I am going Saturday night to a Debbie Maddy trunk show and then Sunday a workshop on "working with silk" here is her website if you haven't heard of her http://www.calicocarriage.com/. I had not, but am excited about the class.

Well, better get a move on..those guests want their eggs and coffee on time....everyone have a great day!!

Yes, summer is here. Supposed to get a little rain today - hope so, we need it. Rebecca, totally understand about gardening, it's not for me, either. Have you ever put your old address into maps.google.com? You will be able to see if that garden is still there or not - amazing what you can see from space!

Good morning friends. Winter is just hanging on. We are expecting a snow storm tonight into tomorrow. UGH!! My birthday night that was supposed to happen Friday night has been cancelled. Wiping a tear! I was really looking forward to it. Oh such is life. I will work tomorrow all day after all.

Last night I got into my sewing room and made the zig-zag table runner for the swap. Well, I got the top done. It really doesn't take long to put it together. I need to find some backing. I also got my coasters cut for the other swap. Man, I am all swapped out. Not much happening today other than that 4-letter word, WORK!! And it looks like I will only be working until May 10. I will be looking forward to having some time off.

Well, that it for me. I wish you all a fantastic day.

Good morning! Same old same old here...go to work, come home, repeat cycle. The sun is coming up and the sky is reddish..."red sky at morning, take warning" will be accurate today as we have thunderstorms coming.

Good Morning all. Today promises showers and t storms and 50's. well no matter I will be at work. Thank you all for your kinds words on my friend Mary. Her emergency spine operation was because she developed a very rare staph infection after a procedure at the hospital and it settled in her spine. She is ok now and back home after having a drain in her spine for 5 days. we will get back to our sewing classes (she is my #1 student) in a few months, for now she just needs to rest.

We got a whopper of a storm last night, with very high winds and lots of rain and " rotation" in our clouds, which means a tornado. For my end of the city, it means we've had no electricity overnight. I can stay connected to the world as long as my iPhone stays charged up. My big emergency lantern just gave up the ghost. Vwhy, oh why didn't I get that generator I was talking about getting? It got very cool overnight, still dark out, and with no tv I have no idea what the temp is. Plan to free my vehicle soon from the garage and go somewhere in the city where they have lights for breakfast. Now I wish I had a treadle sewing machine, so I could finish my falling charm quilt.

April 11th, 2013, 08:36 AM
"Blustery" doesn't quite describe what we have here, more like "Gale Force" winds and 20 degrees out! We're going to get hit with 8-10 inches of snow between today and tomorrow night, but I work from home so thankfully I don't have to travel in it! I go to a monthly crafting group that meets this Saturday, and the winter meeting place is about two hours away; I'm hoping for a break in the icky weather so we don't get cancelled! It's a papercrafting group, although I've brought my machine with a few times. The girls there don't sew, so they're always impressed by whatever I bring, even if my seams are wonky!! LOL

I was half-heartedly hoping my internet would be down from the wind... but alas, it's working... so back to work I go!! Happy Thursday everyone! Hope you have a little sunshine, even if it's from within! :)

April 11th, 2013, 08:40 AM
Good Morning,

We had severe storms last night and we were under tornado warnings until 9 or so. The worst of the storm seemed to pass us by, but many others weren't so fortunate on the Missouri/Arkansas line. We are getting some rain right now and it's chilly again. Feel free to slap me upside of my head if you hear me whining about the warm weather this year!

I plan to do some housework today -- still not sewing, cutting or even thinking about quilts.

I'm off to spend the morning with the Dyson....Hugs All Around, Barb

G'morning all . . *pointing*~~~~> . . you you and you . . and all of you ; )

can't really tell if I slept well last night or not . . I feel like I was in a twilight sleep . . having some really off the wall
dreams . . it had to be that reuben sandwich I had yersterday . . I like having dreams -- and to remember them is cool . . but
this stuff was unique to say the least . .

hubby is on his 5 days off run - so he wanted to go for retail therapy . . little did he know that is was going to be
an all afternoon ordeal . . he can't believe we were gone for 4 1/2 hours just to do some shopping for the house stuff .
and he thought I dilly dally when I go off . . SURPRIZE*~ . . L*~ . . then he had to say something about the cost of everything . .
HELLO*~ . . the B.O. world is no long reasonable to live within your means - . . I don't think after this little trip around the world in 4 1/2 hours - he's going to say anything about my little trips that last - what seems to be forever . . L*~ . .
I did end of with some "Trail Mix" for the doggies . . oh my goodness . . they will do any and all of their tricks for these little gems . .
. . when 7:30 rolls around - believe they come tell me that it's play time . . how in the world do they know what time it is . .L*~

todays agenda . . finish up the zipper pouch for my GPS/Garmin thingie - toss another set of fabric in the washer, dryer then iron and fold . . it seems that all this (so far) fabric is all from 1990 and it doesn't even look like I've put a dent into all those tubs . .
out of the Cmas fabric -- there is some fabric for Vera Bradley . . of course I had to look that up . . and peeps were selling it
for 10.49 a 1/2 yard . . omg*~ . . all so pretty - I hate the thought of cutting it . . *s*~ . .

anywho . . off we go - to do a bit of surfing and then some breakfast - going to 'try' to keep him from asking so many questions
1st thing in the morning - sometimes he chats so much in the mornings *when he's off from work*~ . . it's like someone
pulled his chatty Kathy string . . *ugh*~

thought - prayers and group (((hugzzz))))*~ for all those in need -

Hug your buddy today :)

G morning all. I have been busy all week trying to catch up on my sewing, but wanted to check in and say I met Shirley (buckeye quilter) last Sat. My DH and I drove about half way between and she and her Dh drove halfway our way and we met at a sporting goods store both DH's like to go. Then she took us to Country fabrics, and another bulk goods store and then we showed them another sporting goods store. Found out both DH's had a lot in common and I had a great time meeting and talking with Shirley. She helped me pick out some backing fabric for a quilt I am making for a great niece, and the more I look at that backing, the more perfect it looks. The quilt is made of a bright pink that was hard to match.
Hope we can do it again some time. I stopped at an estate sale on the way home and picked up about 65 yds of fabric, 3 rulers, some books and a small box of misc. for $35. They stuffed all the fabric in a big bag and said how about $30. You gotta know I jumped on that price.
Everyone have a good day. Looks like more rain here.

April 11th, 2013, 09:25 AM
Oh oh pass me a Kleenex to wipe the tears from laughing so hard at your posts, Diane and Barb!! DH asks what's so funny but I hadn't the heart to tell him that there's another DH out there who loves to yack!! I get all settled in bed with my book ( love to read), little snack, ok big fat one, usually the bag, then DH crawls into bed....eventually his chatty Cathy string is not only pulled but stuck in the out position! This is when he relays all the Info from the news and what's on BBC as he's reading the iPad...ok, I just don't really care a heapa poop about some rock found in the mountains of somewhere or the weather in Shanghai..jeepers! But he loves me dearly so I SLAM shut my gripping mystery book and listen... in the early morning I feed the kitties so one's meowing in full decibels doesn't wake Daddy....

Well as Monique wrote, we're in for another doozer of a storm... Just when we thought spring was here... DH and I are heading over to our friend's this aft to help her hang curtain rods... Then tonight hopefully drag myself to Zumba class at the gym... Oh and of course sewing today! Huggies all!

April 11th, 2013, 09:31 AM
I hope everyone in the storms path stays safe today. We are stuck in a cool, raw phase right now. I was hoping to wear some spring clothes but will have to pull out a jacket to wear during errands today.

Prayers to those who need it and those who don't know they need it.

April 11th, 2013, 09:35 AM
Good morning everyone. Except now I am tired from reading Blondie's post and think I need a nap...LOL

Glad to hear Mary is okay and her operation went well.

Jean I saw some of the damage done by the storm up your way. I do hope you won't be without power for too long. Hope Marilyn checks in soon. We had some rain and hail yesterday, but thankfully nothing damaging.

Report on Daniel's mom is not good. Her tumor has grown in size and she is having trouble talking. They are just doing pain control medicine now.

Got the kitchen ceiling cleaned yesterday with Daniel's help. I was so glad he joined in the FUN because I get so dizzy climbing a ladder.
I also got the bathroom cleaned. Now just to do the bedroom area since we changed the bedroom area to the original living room space so it was easier to heat with the wood stove. I have to keep the bed made and things picked up. Our friend ET-Mike is really getting anxious. He said he is all packed and ready to go. He will be leaving Texas tomorrow, he has to stop off at a friends in Bentonville, Arkansas tomorrow night and will be here Saturday. I am hoping Daniel gets to go and enjoy his Black Powder Rendezvous at the end of the month with ET. He really needs to have time to enjoy himself and relax. He knows he will have to go to Michigan at some point. He has his own health problems to deal with also. They found he has a heart valve problem at his Dr appt. Tuesday. Right now it is not to severe but they are going to keep an eye on it. With his high blood pressure and diabetes he doesn't need a lot of stress right now.

Well off to do more cleaning. I love having company, it gives me a reason to HAVE to clean the house. LOL

Have a great day.....hugs and prayers to all.

Good morning....

We got a nice thunder, lightening, wind storm yesterday. The forecast is calling for more rain today and flood watches have been issued. Yesterday I heard a roaring noise outside, thought it was a truck....well it was absolutely black outside and the sound was the wind. We are expecting some more rain today...hopefully nothing like yesterday. I hope everyone is Missouri (and elsewhere) that got tornados are doing ok this morning.

I'm still working on my maple leaf quilt...didn't get as much done as I wanted last night...stopped because it started storming again at home. Maybe tonight I can get some more done. I need to make a trip to JoAnn's or Hobby Lobby and see if they have batting on sale. Has anyone used Quilter's Dream batting? They sell it at the Mennonite/Amish shops near me and I was just wondering what you think.

Well need to get to work...have a wonderful day!! Prayers and hugs......

April 11th, 2013, 10:12 AM
We went over 90 by a few degrees yesterday!
I am hoping for a bit more seasonable today... day three of the Ant Invasion.

We have done the bad sprays on the outside, the good on the inside and of course, Windex ...gotta love Windex, I always feel like the dad in My Big Fat Greek Wedding when I pull that out for anything but windows, but it DOES do the job.

This morning, there are only stragglers, lost and wandering, I have broken the line of march, so we are getting somewhere.

SuezQ suggested vinegar, and that is totally worth a try....

Finished conference call for work... REALLY need to get some house cleaning done other than the kitchen

And, I am deep into my vacation plans for New Orleans --we will be there Mothers Day Weekend (and Lafayette, as well...)

Pretty excited, a place I've never been... I am taking ALL recommends for hotels/ eating (not big seafoodies) and shopping/ touristy stuff...

Already know I will be spending time in the Garden District and the Cemeteries, gotta get my Ann Rice fix...

Oh, and QUILTING... Right. I have the name of a few quilt shops... any one got good places?

We are hitting up Mary Jo's in Gastonia NC on the way down, and will be stopping in Pensacola, FL....

Do share!

I hope everyone has a great day!

Morning all!! :D

SCHOOL was cancelled today!! WOOOHOOO!! I have to use a vacation day but they all know I'm not leaving Liam home alone...sadly this will be the last year I can say that because he really is old enough to be left home alone now for short periods of time...he wouldn't eat!...but next year I won't be able to do that without feeling horribly guilty. He'll be 11 by then. Waaaaahhhh!!

Blondie, that day definitely sounds like it wore you out. I strongly dislike doctors waiting rooms...and why are the chairs always so uncomfortable?! They torture you by making you wait in the first place, the least they could do is make you comfortable!

Diane! Where's the pics of all this fabric! I tell ya! I WISH I could find a deal like that around here! I'm dying to see the haul you picked up!

Dolores and Shirley how nice that you all got to meet!! Sounds like you had a wonderful visit!

Hugs to everyone else and best wishes for a great day!

Hi Guys, Stopping by late this morning. I was up early and thought I'd catch the news on TV before getting my day started but news must have been boring as I feel asleep. Was sitting up with my elbow on the arm on the couch and head leaning on my hand. Woke up with my hand numb and my tongue hanging out of my mouth, not a pretty site!

Have a dozen small sweet potatoes baking to bring to our Granny Cousin's Lunch at cousin Terry's this afternoon. Not just the 4 of us this week as there will be a few guests as it is Terry's Bday. About 10 years ago Terry began our little group of 5 cousins meeting for lunch at our homes every month or so. She has been in poor health the past several years so when it is her turn to host the lunch we make the food and bring it to her house. Sad as she has memory loss and she may recognize her DH and sisters but not the rest of us.

How quickly the past few spring days have gone, thunder storms overnight, rain today plus cooler temps. In one way that's OK as I don't have really nice spring clothes out right now. Have a pile of sweatshirts and pants to be put away but dreading that as it always turns out more work than expected as I spend days reorganizing my closet and storage boxes. Biggest problem are the clothes I can't decide to keep or toss, they usually end up right back in the storage boxes until the next time. Need to get off PC and check my sweet potatoes, have a good day everyone, May

Doloris, you had better luck than I yesterday. Would you believe this estate sale I'm helping get ready has absolutely NO sewing or fabric related items?

FREEZING 32 degrees here today. Watch out everyone east of me. You won't be enjoying those warm days for long.

Exhausted - this old body is getting too old for stretching, bending, sweeping and mopping. Another day of it today.

April 11th, 2013, 11:15 AM
Good Morning All. It was actually hot here yesterday and I do mean hot. Last evening there was a nice breeze after the sun went down and it was nice out. We are suppose to get those thunderstorms that are rolling across the states today so I'm not sure how today will be.
I ignored myself yesterday taking care of my Autumn and looking for work (my contract is up at the bank in a month so I need to find my next assignment). After work I had to run around to 5 different places and didn't get home until 6:30. I started cooking dinner and started to feel really bad and was shaking. It hit me that I hadn't eaten all day. Checked my sugar and yep it crashed on me. I finished cooking for the guys and tried to eat but it was too late for that. Got sick and had to lay down. No sewing for me last night :( Going to pay more attention to that today!
I hope everyone has a wonderful blessed day.

April 11th, 2013, 11:41 AM
Since I didn't win the lottery last night I am back at work today and thankful that I have a job that I enjoy most of the time. Yesterday was my 23rd anniversary working for the same attorney. My boss is just the neatest guy but he will be 69 in July. Scary thought but I've been thinking of maybe looking for something new and maybe relocating. At 49 .....VERY scary.

We had some storms last night but not like some of my fellow Missourians. It did upset one of my puggies. She stayed by my bed the whole night I think. She mostly just gets nervous and needs to be near me during storms. The other one could care less.

DD got herself going this morning and as always I was thankful for that. It's music to my ears when I hear footsteps coming down the stairs. It just makes my day!

Happy Thursday everyone!!

April 11th, 2013, 12:10 PM
This morning is lacking the torrential downpours of yesterday morning, so that is a good start!

Off to get the little Miss to the bus, and then it's housecleaning chores here before after-school appointments. I'll have to get down to the barn a few extra times today, as the new babies need to be fed more often the the older one.

Have a great day and at least walk by and pet your stash if you can't get to the sewing machine!
Hugs, Cathy
