View Full Version : Wednesday Wake Up Greetings

February 20th, 2013, 06:57 AM

Happy Wednesday to everyone!

What a pleasant several days I have been enjoying with my special cousin Paul and his wife Karen. They stop by a few times a year on their journeys from the D.C. area back to S.C. and generally stay with us. It is always like a mini vacation when they are with us - always refreshing. Both are very upbeat and at the same time serious. Mom tickled us all when she announced the other evening after dinner that Paul was her favorite nephew. That while a Mother can't have favorites, Aunts can. What a giggle. Especially considering that he has 4 brothers! However, I do agree with my Mom. I told his wife, Karen that she and I both got the pick of the litter.

I can't tarry this morning reading - will be back this afternoon. Mom has her monthly appt with the retina specialist in a short while. Thank heavens the rain was yesterday and not today. You KNOW how I hate driving in that weather.

I did just watch bits of a new video that seems to have come out last night with Al and Jenny. Not enough time to watch it yet but I will later. That Al is such a cutie pie. Don't tell him, he doesn't need it going to his head but he really does a Momma proud. I betcha I am not the only gal here that would be proud to claim him as their son! The Doans have most certainly done a marvelous job with their family.

Have a wonderful day everyone; will try to be back later on and from the looks of it, have missed something about a surgery for Monique? What in the world!

Blessings to each one here and smile, smile, SMILE!

Good Morning,

Glad you're back, Blondie!

We are prepping for a huge ice/snow storm that should arrive tonight. I will do some cooking and baking in advance today just in case we lose power and have to use the grill or an outdoor fire. It looks like it's our turn for bad winter tricks!

I watched part of the interview with Jenny last night, but will settle in after DH leaves for work and watch it all. I also bought a new Craftsy class this morning, Machine Finished Hand Applique, that looks fun.

Monique, lay low and baby yourself! Wishing everyone a good day..will check in later.

Hugs, Barb

Morning! Blondie, glad you had a great visit with your cousin. How fun! Barb, stay safe in your storm.

I am working like crazy and am quite stressed at the moment. Too much to do and never enough time to get it done. And then we got word yesterday that a co-worker's (she works in another office here) spouse suddenly passed away in the night Monday. We are all in shock and horribly saddened by this. If you think of it, say a prayer for Jane. This was totally unexpected and I'm sure she is really hurting.

Good morning! Blondie, it sounds like you had a great visit with your cousins. Barb, I thought of all of you in Missouri when I saw the weather forecast this morning. Stay safe and warm. Martha, I'm so sorry about your co-worker's loss. Your busyness reminds me it's time to get busy and start working on our taxes...UGH!

February 20th, 2013, 09:18 AM
Good morning.....

Monique...I hope you have a quick recovery. Barb...stay safe and warm.

It's going to be a busy day at work so I hope the day goes by quickly. Tonight I will work on another table runner...not happy with how the first one came out - so I'll try again. Other than that I have no plans for the evening.

Well time to get busy. Have a wonderful day! Prayers and hugs to all.

February 20th, 2013, 09:26 AM
Good morning friends. Up now again. Thanks for all the messages. I will take it very easy these next few days and let hubby pamper ME for a change. Even such a small surgery takes a lot out of you. We received another snowfall sometime through the night and I will just watch it accumulate and not go out and shovel. I will download some shows for my tablet and watch those all day.

Blondie I am glad you have a wonderful time with your cousins. Drive safely taking Mom for her appointment today.

Bubby, hunker down and do lots of sewing.

Martha, prayers for Jane. I lost my father suddenly and it is very hard indeed.

Myrna and Shirley, SMILE, just because. LOL!!

Have an awesome day friends.

Morning all, Blondie some cousins are the bestest cousins and happy to hear your bestest one, and wife, made your past few days fun. I've got of few of those kind of cousins too, also have a few to avoid but that's another story.

It was good to get out yesterday even if it was for food and medicine shopping. Oh boy, get sick for a week and the house falls apart. DH now has what I had, coughing, low temp, head and body aches. He gets like a growly bear when he's sick so I'm going to busy myself with laundry, cleaning out the fridge and getting all the stuff we bought yesterday into the pantry and freezer. Have to touch base with BFF as she's been feeling down physically and emotionally lately, her Crohon's is acting up and one of her DD's is going through a divorce - that will get anyone down.

Take care everyone, May

Happy Day to all! So good to hear you had fun times with your cousins, Blondie. I think I remember last year when they stopped off on their way north. Monique....lay low and rest up! We need you, Girlfriend! Martha, sorry to hear about your coworkers loss. You will be a great comfort to her, even with all the busy-ness of tax season. Glad you are feeling better, May. You know what they say 'ya just can't keep a good woman down'! Barb, be careful if you have to be out and about in the weather. Ice is no fun.

Hope to get some small projects complete today. Want to check out the video you are all talking about with Jenny, too.

Have a good day.

We have had wicked winds and a mix of snow and rain overnight. I do have to go out today but not very far fortunately. It is so darn cold though, i really didn't want to leave my warm bed.

February 20th, 2013, 12:09 PM
Good Morning everyone. What a beautiful day this is. Not weather wise..we are expecting a MESS! Freezing rain, Ice and snow...what we end up with and how much is up in the air. The only problem with the ice is if we get too much the lines will break and we will lose power. We do have a generator if we need it to run a few things. We cut wood yesterday so we have a few days worth of wood stacked in the house to keep us warm. And I received the most wonderful COC quilt in the mail yesterday to keep me warm. Took pictures and will make a post in a few minutes. Thank you lilmouse for making such a beautiful quilt and Blondie for sending to me.

I have my little my little squares of fabric to hand-sew if we lose power so I can keep busy...it is just going to be very very quiet without being able to watch movies. I do have a radio though that works on batteries. :)

I made some bread yesterday.. It was a no knead recipe from our friend in Texas. It is yummy. I think I am going to make some French Toast with it this morning if DH is okay with that. Or maybe just some toast with homemade jam.

Okay...off to post my COC quilt.

Have a great day.
Hugs and prayers to all.

Feels good to catch up with everyone this morning. I see ya all got your "chore" lists and Appointments for today. I have the house to myself today as both children are back to work. Long week end with them hanging around getting in my way.. LOL.

First off I got a UFO calling my name.. just wanna get that darn top together and put in the flimsy box. I keep a few tops around in case there is a "special" gift is needed.

It's so bitterly cold here that I have no intentions of sticking my nose outside the door. After a quick clean up thru the house, I'll be in my sewing closet.. Maybe, Just Maybe, I might get dressed...

Hugs and prayers going out to all.... Ya know you are loved, right??

February 20th, 2013, 01:04 PM
Good morning! Headed off in a bit for Taxes, and then foot doctor! Hopefully I will come home wearing MATCHING shoes!
That's all I have on my agenda for the day---other than think about what it is I will want to buy tomorrow at the Mid-Atlantic Quilt Fest.... Have found someone else who will drive me, so I am going to go, and will just stop and sit when necessary!

Sunny, but deceptively cold...
Take care, all@

Glad to have you back Blondie. Good to hear you had a good time with the cousins. Praying for quick recovery Monique. Yep, we are in that winter mix, yucky stuff. Last I hear was it was gonna get here tomorrow. Prayers being said for Jane. I will have Bubby for a little bit today (always love that). Will try again to quilt the other B'day quilt. Started on it yesterday and didn't like it so I ripped it all out (for the 2nd time). Need to go to PO today to get a couple things in the mail. A set of blocks for Blondie, and my mug rug for the swap, wing it's way to another part of the world. Hugs, and blessing for all. Prayers for those in need, and those that don't know it yet.

Morning Everyone...thank you Donna for the sweet thank you on the CoC quilt...I am so glad you like it! I have fun making those and want to start another one soon! Haven't gone to bed yet and probably won't...may lay down for a nap later but have lots of sewing to do and a few days off to do it in...so have to get cracking again...after I hit the second wind! My asthma medicine will take care of that...leaves me jittery...will be glad when I get used to it again...haven't had this particular medication in several years so the body has to adjust to it again....like new! Have a cold starting buy am trying to ignore it in hopes it will just go away....here it is sunny and cold...I think the high was predicted at like 16 degrees...brrrrr! The wind has been blowing pretty good also....just makes you feel even colder!
I did get all of my house cleaned yesterday...today is catch up on laundry day! Not my favorite chore...ranks right up there with dusting! If I want clean clothes it has to be done!
Sorry to hear the sad news about your co worker and will keep her in prayer, Monique, please remember to take it easy!
Hope everyone keeps their power and stays warm and comfy during this next batch of bad weather...hugs and prayers for all!

Morning all! It sure has been a whirlwind past 4 days here. Saturday we made a trip up to Chicago for an open house at the school my son will be attending this fall. It's a really good program and I'm excited for him. When he gets thru the program, he'll be able to fix a semi from front to back. We left before the chickens woke up and got home in the late evening, whew. Then a friend needed a sitter for her girl, so she came over. She's a very active 2 yr old so I was on my toes for sure. She a little sweetheart of a girl so I didn't mind watching her.
Monday was a sewing marathon for a pair of sisters from my church. They are 10 and 8. I'm still pretty much a newbie when it comes to sewing and they know this, but they had a good time. We started sewing at 10 am and finished up at 8 pm. They sure are "sewing machines" themselves. I've never have sewn clothes at all and that was an adventure in itself for sure.
I'm off to work on a few projects before our company comes for supper. Our home is going to be invaded by 3 rowdy, but fun boys and their parents. Have a great day all!

February 20th, 2013, 02:18 PM
Blondie, great to see you back. I have a 'favorite' cousin who is very special as well.

I think I will spend the day in my jammies and FORCE myself to work on the taxes. I will feel so good when they are finished (if the outcome is favorable, that is!).

My best friend's sister passed away yesterday after almost 7 years of kidney disease and dialysis. She truly fought a good fight. I guess we will travel to Charlotte on Friday for the funeral. it will be an opportunity to see our oldest daughter. She is severely depressed and misses us terribly. THAT will be a difficult visit.

Love and hugs to everyone. Stay warm if at all possible.

February 20th, 2013, 02:42 PM
Good afternoon. Hubby is on vacation so he let me sleep late. I slept until after 10am. I woke with a headache and it is just now waining.

I am going to run a couple of errands and then come home to sew, and sew some more.

Baby watch continues. We just want to meet this new granddaughter and having hubby on vacation would make it perfect. Oh well, she will come when she comes.

Have a great day and prayers to you all.

February 20th, 2013, 03:01 PM
I love to come here and know that I can make a difference in all of your lives through prayer. I'm so sorry about your co-worker, Martha. Monique, you better rest up or we'll all be mad at you! Becki, safe travel on Friday. Hope all goes well for you and your daugher as well as the funeral. Marilyn, give Bubby a kiss for me! What a blessing he is to you! Trish, good luck with the foot doctor and have FUN at the quilt fest! Barb, is there anything worse than a storm with an icy mix? To ALL the rest of you ahead of me and posting after me, prayers for you all. I sure value you.

Today we have the wonderful opportunity to love on another child brought into our home for DD to foster mother. Rachel is 11 months old and the sweetest little thing you would ever want to meet. Keep her on your daily prayer list if you can! She needs it as all the children do who come into our care. We will love on her as much as we possibly can for as long as she is here. She has had a rough time of it in her short life. No one should live with abuse and neglect. It breaks my heart.

February 20th, 2013, 03:04 PM

Hey all...hard to me to say Good day when it really hasn't been one. Not in a happy place at work right now....in brief I have a female boss. Now as a fellow female one would think that would be great BUT I think she thinks of me as competition...some kind of threat. So it makes it a rather "toxic" environment. Just to give you an idea I got from her my first bad assessment last year. For 19 years I have gotten good reviews and according to her " I am developing". That is a review you give someone with less than1 year experience NOT 20. Sad part there is no one I can go to... she is the golden girl of the department...going to make the next 2 years VERY LONG! Must be blue Weds................................:(

Hi Folksies
Long day in the city with Mom and Sis. See you in the a.m.
((((Shauna))) Reckon you didn't know you could be so intimidating. Wonder if she knows that even though you could do her job with your eyes closed, you really don't aspire to do more than finish your time and retire? Insecure folks who are up and comers are really difficult to work with. Sorry kiddo.

Everyone else - my midwest friends in the way of the storm, hunker down, batten the hatches and it sounds as if you shall need some snow shovels and ice skates. Be safe, warm and keep your quilting with you and/or over you.

Hugs, prayers and smiles to all. Yes, I am still smiling; got a large or grande medium roast at Starbucks on the way home. I am jiving like a jitterbug. Poor Luscious.

February 20th, 2013, 09:40 PM
Prayers for Jane and her family as they struggle with the sudden loss of her husband.

Monique - Good for you, let DH pamper you and get back into the pink of health.

Blondie - sounds like you had a lovely visit, how fun it is a vacation when they come!

GrannyJudy - good idea to get some flimsey's ready in case you need a special gift! Going to remember that tip :-)

Cyndi ((((Rachel))) praying that she knows she is now VERY loved and is young enough to forget any tragic events before life with you!

Got up late so just catching up -- We got SNOW in Tucson, Arizona! OhMyGosh! yep, that 4-letter word. 3rd time in 30 years but the folks with older homes have their drip systems to close to the top of the ground, so have heard on the news of many breaking. covered a few of our cacti cuz they sure are not used to Winter!

Staying in my jammies, popping something in the oven to take the chill off the house and then will get into my sewing room to see what else I can clear off my list.

Have a safe and wonderful Wednesday (or go to bed early so it happens on Thursday :-)

February 20th, 2013, 09:41 PM
Oh, Shauna... I can totally relate... I have had way too much experience lately with having to prove I know what I know, but don't want YOUR job, thanks, or I would already have had it!! (I rarely whip my degree out with customers---but when they start in on HOW do I know the way to do my job, out comes my BS in Art from CSI ....and when I start getting that same vibe from the supervisor du jour, I slip in, conversationally, of course, how I had told the last District manager that while I appreciated his vote of confidence, I was not interested in moving up, having been there and done that already....
Figure I get my point across well enough... and I have had to remind the current DM on more than one occasion that IF he doesn't want to hear the truth abt something, he PROBABLY shouldn't ask me my opinion, lol!!

Well, my foot is unwrapped and feeling very vulnerable, but dr says it looks good.... we shall see after a day of walking tomorrow....

February 20th, 2013, 11:16 PM
Just you be careful on that foot...don't overdo! (The pot calling the kettle black) I always overdo and pay for it!
