I hear ya about the fabric I'm goning to need to rehab for all the projects I have started but not completed..and yet I still buy more.
Today when the sun comes up I am definitely making more of the Applesauce cake ...The recipe is as follows
the recipe is as follows
Applesauce Cake in a Jar
10 wide mouth pint canning jars- 10 lids and rings
Cream 2/3 cups shortening
2 2/3 cups sugar
beat in 4 eggs
3 cups of applesauce or 25 oz
taste at this point and add 2/3 cup more sugar if needed
2 tsp vanilla
3 1/3 cup plain ole flour
1 tsp baking powder
2 tsp baking soda
1 1/2 tsp salt
1 tbsp. cinnamon
1 tsp cloves
Blend everything together
add 2/3 raisins or nuts or both...depends on what you like
Bake at 325 for 45 minutes
Pour into clean well greased pint jars. 1 cup of batter in each one. (set jar on wire rack in oven)
When done removed 1 jar at a time from the oven.Have your lids already soaking in hot water. Wipe off the top of your jar and seal...go to the next one ( check later to see if they are sealed you should hear the popping all over the house )
When cool- cut a circle of fabric for a cover and a pretty ribbon wrap around the top of the jar.
I put my name on it for gift giving.
Small elastic hats for dolls work too )
she notes on the side that this recipe is so fun to do and soo yummy!!
I will be on for a while... and this time I will remember to log out lol!! instead of leaving my name on for hours...

Good Morning

Laura, that recipe sounds terrific! And I hope that you got some extra sleep. I slept like a log last night.
Finished the lap quilt up and will be bringing down to Daddy today. I washed it, dried it and it feels so soft, warm and like a lil quilt is supposed to feel. Am I supposed to log out? Most times I just minus out and pop in randomly and have to resign in again? I promise I am not a stalker if my name is on the list of those online. LOL.

We have company coming in from out of town. One of my Aunties is arriving this afternoon. Mom wants to cook the dinner and I am to bring dessert. Oh what shall I bring???

I do know that I need to clean my sewing area a little bit. I have been cleaning it in spurts after all that nasty water. Smells okay down there, still ironing the strings and scraps that got saturated. I did buy a few totes last weekend so all that pile is safe and dry right now, just looks like a rats nest.

Later on I may try to post a pic of some of the blocks my sis and I have been working on. Just some whimsy that the two of us are collaborating on that will be a one of a kind. Lots of embroidery that we will be appliquing. I think this may be a lifetime quilt . Cat does the most lovely embroidery. My stitches are very primitive, hehehe

Off to get my day started. OH! Did you gals see the newest video where MSQC announces that they are doing some professional filiming for CLASSES?

Anxiously awaiting the videos! I have watched nearly all of the UTube videos. They were most helpful in my first quilt, Dresden Plate, baby quilt. I posted some pictures of them a while back.

We are very happy that you are going to be able to "produce" your own movies!

Good Luck!

Morning ya'll

Jumping on here real quick because I need to get ready to go to work. Man time flies when I'm home and is slow as molasses at work! :icon_angry: I just daydream about what I can do when I get home.
Laura that recipe looks yummy! Thanks for sharing. I'm so happy to see you in good spirits! :icon_woohoo:

Blondie - thanks for the :heads up" on the new videos! Have fun visiting with your Auntie! I bet your Dad will be so happy when you give him the quilt! Yeah!

Hey Pat - I'll have to go searching for the picture of your quilt. I like the Dresden Plate design and hope to make one sometime!

Have a great day and I'll check in after work!

October 12th, 2010, 09:45 AM
Another quick visit here and I am so in LUST for today's Daily Deal! I can't get it - no $$ but I love the colors, prints, BIG SIGH. Thinking of all the cute and quaint little blocks to be made from this. Wouldn't it make a special kid blankie or table runner or a few for apron pockets or . . . Off to look for my crying towel.

October 12th, 2010, 10:30 AM
Good morning everyone. Laura I'm sorry you couldn't sleep last night.
Blondie you'll have to tell us the look on your dad's face when he gets his lap quilt. Very proud of you for taking care of your parents like you do. In this day and age it's rare to see a child stand by his/her parents.
Well I'll be getting the house ready for the weekly show and tell my friends and I have. This week we will be working on our quilting homework. And of course we'll be waiting for Dawnie to show us her weekly quilted something she made. She is so good. We love her surprises. Have a good day people and quilt, quilt, quilt! love, Jan :icon_wave: :icon_hug:

October 12th, 2010, 10:44 AM
Good moring everyone!
Laura - thanks for starting the thread but sorry you were up so early. Hope you are resting now. Your recipe looks amazing. Think I will make it to give to neighbors during the holidays. I grew up when neighbors did things like that.
Blondie - Love to see pics of what you and sis are working on. Have a nice dinner with your Auntie and I am sure your dessert will impress! I am in the same boat lusting for the Daily Deal and no $$ to play with!
Pat - thanks for sharing the link that teases us with classes. Isn't Sarah cute? When I met her she said "hi, I am Sewhot (from the board) and I am so not"! But she is adorable and just as bubbly in person!
Shelia - I am daydreaming all day here at work too! The older I get the more I want to just be home, with the occasional visit to the fabric store...lol!
Jan - Did you get the floors done? You should post us a pic of your birds!

Well, had a lousy day at work yesterday. Someone quit with 2 day notice. She worked here a long time but this is the 3rd person in 2 months to leave. I was trying to help the owner with his payroll by not hiring replacements but with this last person jumping ship I will have to or work long hours seven days a week. I am NOT that dedicated since I am not sure how long the store will remain open. Just hoping to make it last til after the holidays and after the first of the year when I will earn my 4 weeks vacation for next year!
Oh well...break is over...back to the grind!
Happy quilting to all!

October 12th, 2010, 10:52 AM
I forgot to ask - anyone seen Gina who was going to visit her friend whose mother passed? I was just thinking of her this morning and was hoping she was okay.
Take care - see ya later!

Just a quick hello from work. Going to try and take Friday off so 3 day week.:D Got some more blocks done yesterday. Went to our closest quilt shop yesterday to find it closed:icon_sniff: Looking for some fun material for tube pillow cases. Will try again Friday.

Hi everybody!

It sounds like we all have busy days today! I WILL get this space done today! Iwill, I will, I will! This no sewing thing is killing me! I have things to get stitching on and I can't wait to mess up this great newly cleaned area!
I must make a batch of playdough for pre-school first though. The mom who is supposed to be making it is having trouble with the recipe or something. The batch she sent yesterday was bad. It was super sticky and wouldn't hold a shape. That was a huge mess to clean off of the kids, the playdough toys, and the table. Yuck! We are exploring apples this week. So I think I'll make a batch of deep red or a golden color. I'll add a cinnamon scent since I don't have any apple.
I never log out. I just flip to the next site or close out my browser. It must look like I lurk on here all day. I just hate having to sign in! I guess let me know if my dot never goes out, and then I'll know if I need to log out.

Hi Ladies!
Everybody is so busy! Laura108, I am having trouble staying asleep as well, and have decided if I can't get back to sleep in a reasonable amount of time, I am just going to get up and go to my sewing room and stitch. If I have to take a nap during the day, so be it.
I am hard at work with my classes, learning medical coding is going to be the death of me, but it must be done so that I can move forward in the working world. I cannot believe it has been a year since I lost my job! I am finally realizing I have been depressed for most of the year, and I need get up and out of it! I am having a hard time with that, but I don't want to do any meds if at all possible. I probably need to exercise, that might do the trick!
I hope everyone is having a great day!

October 12th, 2010, 04:11 PM
Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that I never log out either. I have to many passwords to remember, so I just leave it. I am not lurking, I swear! :icon_heh:

October 12th, 2010, 04:15 PM
Boo Hoo! Just found out that due to budget cuts in town they will be doubling the cost of our quilting class. Which means we won't be having a class anymore because they already raised the cost since the spring and I'm sure the other ladies can't afford it. Since I am so new at this I really need to find some classes to take.

Pat :icon_cry:

Your dot is out now toggpine. Patti, Gina left saturday at noon. The wake was yesterday and the funeral was today. She was going to stay for a couple of days to make sure her friend was going to be ok. Yes I got my filthy floors clean, took me an hour but they are clean. I have to get a camera that I can upload photos with. I will send photos of the birds then. I also need a lesson from my son on how to do that. I have one photo of Emily on my computer but don't know how to show her to you. But then I thought I don't want to unless I have permission from my son and his wife. They are very protective of her. With good reason she is a pretty kid. And you never know who is lurking out there. Although I'm pretty sure she would be safe here. I'll let you know. If you are not on the quilters forum your lights are all out. I think if you change to another site you are automatically off. I don't think you have to log out. Love ya, Jan

Hello everyone

First off I will apologize in advance if I accidentally post a mad face. I am at work and bored out of my mind! I posting using my phone and some of you know how disastrous that can be for me! I'm thinking some of you who can't sleep need to come to work with me because I have all my work done and am so dang sleepy.

Here's hoping five o'clock gets here soon!

I'll see ya later when there's less of a chance of me making a goof.

October 12th, 2010, 06:27 PM
I kinda thought that our green blip went out when we navigated away from the site.

The fog burned off and now I must really go wash the outsides of these windows. They are horrible! UGH! I've got an hour before I have to go pick up the Miss Priss from pre school. I think I can get it done in that amount of time with the boat brush and hose. Thank goodness we don't have two levels!

I try not to post photos of my daughter (4 yrs.) on the web. Sometimes you'll get a back shot or a 1/4 profile on my blog. The one with her Halloween costume on, that I posted in one of the threads here, is one of the first where you can see most of her. She has changed so much since then though. I completely understand why you wouldn't post pics of your grandbaby on the web. We will just take your word that she is cuter than a bug's ear!

Off to play Cinderella! I guess I can't be Cinderella & the evil step-mother at the same time.... Great. Now I sound like a candidate for the mental ward. :icon_crazy: Whatever. Just as long as my windows are clean!

Hi Ladies
been a long day and now I am ready to rest a wee bit. Company came in and dinner went very well. I made Pumpkin Yum Dip for a dessert of sorts. My uncle was wild for it.
Gave Daddy his lap quilt and he is very happy with it. Now my uncle wants one. good grief. I told my aunt to get off her duff and use the machine she bought 3 years ago. My cousin and I neither one can figure out why she bought it. LOL.

Sounds like everyone had a really busy day as well.
Jan, I know you feel better getting those floors done! I too have been thinking of Gina and her friend. Thanks for the update.

Keepstitchin - my daughter went to school for medical office - has a good job now with the local hospital. Medical Coding really made a difference for her. What's frustrating is how often the coding is changed from what I understand. Books are outdated in a year or less. Good luck!

Pat ~ maybe you could get together with some of those ladies and start your own classes. I bet there are some more advanced than others and each person can teach from their own strengths? Also, perhaps there is a local guild chapter where you can maybe find a mentor?

Patticakes hope your day went better than anticipated. Why is everyone leaving? I mean this economy is crazy! Why give up a job?

Everyone else, I am not ignoring you; I just wish I could keep everyone straight in my head. LOL. I reckon soon enough I will be able to.

Okies, ladies, see you in the morning.
Blessings to all

I do enjoy reading what everyone is up to daily. I just don't have lots of time to post back somedays!

Glad today is over. The kiddo I follow at school did not have a good day. I think they are trying to place him at another school that deals with this type of kid - I'm getting tired of having a pencil shoved in my face, his hand also and today he threw his pencil case towards a secretary and a teacher. Friday he almost hit a teacher on the back of her head with a textbook. He got sent home immediately for that one. The sooner he gets out of the regular classrooms, the better. My job is to AIDE the kids who are struggling to learn, not babysit the trouble makers.

Got an envelope from Odie today. There was nothing in it! I guess he is trying to tell us he is stressed out with his Marine training. It sure gave us a laugh.

Don't know if they'll do Katie's surgery on her knee on Monday. She is coughing from her cold. I guess if she is still coughing, I'll call the surgeon on Friday and see what they say to do for Monday.

I hope you are getting some better sleep tonight Laura.

Hope you all are having a super evening!

October 13th, 2010, 12:17 AM
Good night everyone. Have sweet dreams and I hope everyone gets some sleep and stays asleep. I'm tired tonight but I did do good with my quilting tonight! I think I'm getting it.
I don't know if I could hand quilt a whole bed sized quilt, but I could do a wall hanging or a table runner. Maybe someday I could do a bed quilt, but I think that's a long way off. It is calming though. I really like it so far. I'm watching the news as I write this and am praying and waiting for the first miner to come up the tube in Chile. Yay!!!! the first one is up. Thank you Lord. Thank God for the miners and for the familys. Good night ladies.
Love you all, Jan :icon_woohoo:

Hey have any of you heard from Paula? I'm worried about her. She's usually on here every couple of days at least. Hope everything is okay!
