Happy 2:29 am ..I officially do not like Insomnia. Tried Sleep MD tonight for the price of a jelly roll I got some amazing creepy crawling lags and no sleep:( but tomorrow...oops today is a new day so on the bright side...its raining here but sounds pretty.
Trish I didn't get to respond to your post yesterday but our thoughts are with you with a son in boot camp I imagine quilting helps keep your mind from worry and we are here anytime you need a shoulder or a hug from across the miles. We can even send him a card of encouragement what an incredible thing to do...I also have a 16 year old who sounds alot like your daughter I hope her MRI was ok and no surgery is needed...
Jan i just love you and thank you for always being here when I need you.....you were missed today :)
Congratulations to the new owner of a brand new machine how fun is that....
Well l I'm off to play games....ahhh the middle of the night seems to be the only time I actually win lol
hugs and love and happy new day :)

Morning to all; been up forever and sweeping water out of my basement. I declare, I don't know why after all the years of living in the this house we are in the past year getting water down there. Poor basement kitty, Dinah! She was sitting on my cutting table like it was the ark. It has been a constant rain for the past two days. I am happy for it, frustrated however that we didn't get it for our veggie garden over the summer . . . grrr.

Laura, I am assuming you have tried the over the counter pm's? I resort to them when I am really needing to sleep. Don't always help me stay asleep for the entire night - I have no problem getting to sleep it is STAYING asleep that is my bugaboo. I will wake up at 2:30 or 3 pm. Usually will surf the net, play a few games or as in this past night, sweep the water out, lol.

I need to get off here and start getting ready for work today. I only work three days a week these days - hope everyone has a terrific day.

September 30th, 2010, 07:44 AM
I'm sorry to hear you aren't sleeping. There's nothing worse than lying awake all night and then feeling exhausted all day. But I think you did the right thing by getting up. I've lain in bed for 5 hours before, trying to sleep, and you just end up feeling worse than getting up and doing something productive.

That would be great if people could send him a LETTER of encouragement. He didn't mention cards so I would only send a letter to him if you want. He says he is so homesick that it's the highlight of his day when he hears his name called and says to him 'You've got mail!" Even if all it says is Hello! (words from his letters home).

Odie's address is:
RCT. Lapp, Andrew O.
2nd RTBN PLT 2092 Co. H.
P.O. Box 16245
Parris Island, SC 29905-2092

He will be there until Dec. 3rd so anytime between now and the end of November would be great!

The rains have hit today. Looks like everyone will get a little wet. Major downpours right now - ugh.

Sorry to hear you aren't sleeping Laura. Are you able to get some cat naps in during the day?

MRI is today for Katie. Well, I think it is. The imaging center called yesterday and didn't see the message for us to call back until today so hope they didn't change the date.

Hope everyone has a great day! Think of all the seconds in time you have left to enjoy for today. How are you going to spend it?

My son...Mr Herbal remedy boy...says that for Insomnia you need to drink Catnip tea before bed. Also, keep some dried lavender near your pillow. He makes these little 'sleepy pillows' that you stick inside your pillow. I used one when I was pregnant and it did help. Only I am very allergic to lavender so he made up another different 'earthy' mix for me. I'll send you one...message me your address...and tell me if you want lavender, or no lavender. It's worth a shot since it's all natural! And as I said...it worked for me :)
We are trying to find people to give us honest opinions before I allow him to sell them on my website.

My son is sitting beside me looking up insomnia in his extensive herbal library, and he says take calcium 1 hr before bed and put a hot water bottle on your tummy, as well as what I mentioned above.

I fear water in the basement whenever it rains. It hasn't happened yet, but we've only lived here since April. The basement is where we spend most of our time!! We have a huge sump pump though. I hope it is an easy clean up and that it won't happen again!

We are on a school break right now. But, the day has started off nicely. Only I really want that bliss daily deal and it is a huge temptation that I shouldn't take. It would be so nice for a tutorial I am planning/ or was planning and now re-vamping since turnovers are on the out!

Finally...I am stumped on designing a quilt. I wish just this once I had EQ7. I have never done a medallion/round robin and I really really want to get my Generations quilt done...but I am stumped on the design.

Well, I need to go get the baby away from my graph paper...which is now a huge wadded up mess. He is so helpful with home organization!

Amazing what an hour and half of sleep can do for you. Yeah:icon_wave: I also have a Dr's appointment tomorrow so my fingers ...legs and eyes are crossed, very hard to find a primary care and a cardiologist that take new patient's with health issues.
Hillbilly tell your son Thank you how lucky you are that he loves herbal remedies sometimes they are the best. I would love to help him with testing them out...Who knows he could grow up to be herbalist. The hospital I used to work for blended traditional medicine with holistic and the patients seemed to thrive in that environment :) ...but catnip tea?? I used to grow it to make my kitty nuts but wow did she bounce off walls.....you do realize I'm not all that normal and bouncing off the wall would probably get me committed lol!!
Trish..thank you for his address I will get a letter off to him...I might include a coloring book page that I will have my little nieces color it I will look to see if I can find some kind of flag with a thank you on it :)
Good luck on the MRI...fingers crossed for you.
Blondie ekk on the rain, no fun at all dealing with it and you are so right would of been nice on the gardens :)
thank you Jr it does stink without sleep and I think I could probably write a book on what doesn't help medicine and over the counter wise....
well I'm actually off to finish cleaning the sewing room...almost there....if I would just stop finding little projects I'd rather play with then clean...haha..
Big hugs Jan....when you sign on...Thank you again for always knowing what to say...You my love I cannot live without and never want too :)
OOO the daily deal looks soo tempting ....
hugs and love everyone :)

September 30th, 2010, 12:10 PM
Laura, Try Sleepytime herb tea before bed...take two Calcium Magnisium pills and spray your pillow with rose or lavender scent. It really helps and as I am in the not so fun world of menopause it sure helps me!
I am going to write Odie. Won't he be surprised to get a letter from Canada.
Well off to work... Thurs. are one of our busy days!

Hello Ladies! I missed y'all yesterday! spent most of the day clearing junk off our backyard screened porch, trimming trees, clearing eves - you know battening down the hatches for what we had thought was going to be a tropical depression moving thru - HA! it is absoluetly gorgeous out today :) the sun is shining and the humidity is way down and there is a nice breeze - some of that "fall" weather you were talking about! YAY! glad we did get some rain yesterday morning though - we do need some......

great idea of the lavendar pillow spray - i do that and i have an eye mask that really helps too. :) one other thing - i have taught myself that when i can't sleep, i don't get back on my sewing machine or computer! i do both of those things when awake!! anyway i think i am! LOL

daughters wedding is in less than 2 weeks - i MUST get back to her quilt, but it is nagging me about the machine, got any herbals for that?? oh and finding my dress would be a good thing too! ugh

sounds like all of you have pets - cats or dogs or horses even cows! i just have the birds outside - there is a big family of cardinals and butterflies tooooo - love butterflies and hummingbirds come to the roses (which are in full bloom again! YAY!)

September 30th, 2010, 02:21 PM
Suzi, sound lovely where you are. We are into Fall here officially. Leaves changing color, fog in the morning and lots of birds gathering at my bird feeders, which often means an early winter.
Do you have an orange tree in your yard or a lemon. I always wanted a lemon tree because the leaves smell so good. Plus I could make my own lemonade.:D oh and grapefruilt too!
Mind you can't really complain too much. I live in the fruit valley of our province and grow apples, cherries, peaches and the like. plus we grow lots of grapes for wine.
I've been thinking...:icon_beuj: and I have decided to make pillow cases for my family this year following Jenny's tutoral. Each of my girls have moved into new aptments this year and this way I can personalize the pillowcases for them. Will make some for my brother and sis-in law and girlsfrineds as well. Going to fun picking out material for them!

September 30th, 2010, 02:35 PM
Hi Sally :) yes we have 2 oranges, a navel and a tangelo. the grapefruit (a ruby red) was hit hard by the cold winter last year and we had to cut way back hope it makes it...... the key lime is planted in a bucket so we brought in the garage and is doing wonderfully - another year or two and we should see fruits! yay .... i also have strawberries and blueblerries and a few different veggies just for fun. mostly though i love flowers! (HA! must be why most of my fabric is florals!! :) I will be cutting roses and lilys and orchids and what ever else is in bloom for daughters wedding bouquets - remind me and i will try to post pics......

Hi everyone, Dark and Damp day. Raining to beat the band. All in all a good sleepy day. Poor Laura can't sleep and I can't stay awake! I'm cutting fabric for my wall hanging class.
I only needed 10 squares for class but in the end will need 64 squares. So I'm doing a little at a time.
Laura, yay that you have a dr appointment. Hope he/she gets to the bottom of your problems. And then fixes them.
I will drop Odie a line and good luck with the MRI for Katie.
Blondie been there done that. Not fun.
Hillbilly, your muse will come back and you'll figure it all out. EQ7 is supposed to be good though. I won't bother with that until I can really quilt though.
Sally, I would love fruit trees but right now it would be one more thing I don't get to. So I keep buying mine from the farmers market.
I have dogs and parrots. My blue front amazon is a big help she tells the dogs when to go out and then calls them back in. And they come in when she calls them. It's too funny.
Laura I will always be here for you. Love you sweet girl. :icon_hug:
Love to you all, Jan

Hi__Suzi glad the storm didn't hit you. We got 6" of rain and lots of limbs down. Our coast line got the most of the storm. Flooding everywhere. It has finally stopped raining here and is nice and cool.
Pillowcases sound like a good idea and special for Christmas.:D

September 30th, 2010, 08:42 PM
Hi everyone :icon_wave:

Yeah today was payday so I can go get more fabric for the block swap! Then pay bills :icon_bah:

Sorry to hear lots of ya'll are getting an overabundance of rain. Hope it doesn't cause too much trouble.

I have a bottle of Lavender Chamomile spray I got from Bath and Body Works. It works really well on me. I spray the pillows and think I'm going to read something and the next thing I do is wake up with my face stuck to a magazine page. :icon_rolleyes: I wish I could give some of my sleepiness to you guys who are suffering from insomnia. It was so quiet this afternoon at work after the morning made me want to yank my hair and everyone else's out too that I was sleepy. I'd be willing to trade some of it if we could find a way.

Have a nice evening ya'll! :icon_hug:

Hello everybody!
Been a busy day for me, but productive thank goodness! I finally got the last few of my Christmas Star swap blocks cut and while I was doing that I had the embroidery machine going on a couple of quilt blocks for a friend. One of the designs was huge, 45,000 stitches, and I love to multi-task so
it worked out perfectly. I had tutorials from MSQC running on the computer the whole time too!
I recently discovered the full screen button for the tutorials (when viewing from YouTube) and it's wonderful. I also managed to somehow get them to where they just kept running, but I don't know how I managed that.
I sure hope you all will be sleeping better and that the rains have stopped and basements are drying out.

September 30th, 2010, 11:40 PM
Evening all. I took a nap this afternoon ...Yeah!! Artificially induced but it worked. Dr's appointment in the morning then I will be good as new...look out world haha..

Sally great idea on pillowcases daughters can always use pillow cases.
Pdjewlreylady....send me a link so I can see what you sell ...My oldest is in Lousinia at KALB-TV and always needs jewelry ....but what girl doesnt :)

Hi everyone! I am not on the computer much and just found this thread. Hope you don't mind if I jump in?
Sounds like a good way to know everyone better.
Laura - Sorry about your restless nights. I understand how draining it can be! Hope you can get some rest tonight.
Blondie - Rain in your basement must be so stressful!! I would be sick about it. Your poor cat! Is it drying up at all????
Hillbilly - I know what you mean about the DD Bliss temptation - I wanted it sooo bad but just don't have the $$ this week. Did you get it??
Suzi - How you coming along on that wedding quilt??
Sally - Pillowcases are such a great idea! I made a couple last year out of quilter's flannel and they turned out so nice. I think I will make some for gifts too. The fruit sounds good but I am eating low carb these days, so no fruit for me. :-(
Jan- 64 squares! I see why you break it up. That cracks me up to think of your bird telling the dogs what to do..LOL!
Saundra - Is your place okay???
Shelia - all I can say is YEAH for PAYDAY! Mine is tomorrow but my rent will eat it all up and then some!
Lola - wish I could figure out how to get those tuts play ongoing like that. You sound like you are in about the same point as I with the star blocks.
Well, I just finished 4 blocks for the swap and now have 10 more to go. I have to get them done this weekend because I just started my little quilt business (Sweet Cherry Quilting) and a lady ordered 4 quilts from me!! Yikes! At first she said 7 and I was freaking inside as to how I would get those all done before Christmas so I am glad it is down to 4!
Well time to get some sleep cuz I was up for 2 hours in the middle of the night myself.
Night all....<yawn>.....Patti

Good luck...I kind of shut mine down for a bit...don't let it take your fun!!! What type of quilts did she order??

I gotta get to bed. There is NO way to say hi to all these new people tonight. How am I ever going to keep up?

I didn't have $$ for the layer cake either. My husband worked in Hamilton tonight, and I told him that he could swing by and get one... and of course he thought I meant a real slice of layer cake. When is he going to learn??? LOL.

Ok...night all. I still have to get the tutorial done in the morning as life is busy and I am too tired to do it tonight!!

We are having nice weather here, which is something for Seattle. We have fog rolling in at night, and sun by late morning/early afternoon. I got the lawn mowed today.
We don't have any house pets unless you count the 19 year old & 4 year old. We live on about 2.5 acres with 20 chickens, 25 goats of various ages, a livestock guardian dog, and a barn cat who thinks she is a guard dog. My husband is currently contemplating raising a couple of pigs with our extra milk.
I did have time to sew, but I started doing milking chores for our neighbor on her goat micro-dairy. She makes some yummy cheeses with the milk. So now my days are pretty much my chores, her chores, my other neighbor who is in the hospital needs her horse fed, run the youngest to pre-school, do the afternoon feeding at the dairy, pick up the pre-schooler, do my chores, make dinner, clean up and get the youngest one in the tub, and into bed. I do manage to squeeze in some other things, but not the big block of time in the afternoon that I had become accustomed to. It's actually making me kind of cranky.
This weekend my husband is heading out of town to go camping with the guys. I am gutting the sewing nook and my sister and I are going to get it painted and install the overhead lighting. I was hoping to have the new counter top installed, but I can't seem to get anybody to cut it to the right size before Sunday. Oh well, if I can get the rest of the stuff done, then the counter can go in Sunday afternoon.
I'll send before and after pictures once I have the space tidy.
I'm headed back to the sorting & purging portion of this little adventure.

Good luck with all of your adventures! I hope that you all dry out!

Insomnia is a royal pain in the you know where, after watching TV i have what i call my quiet time,no noises low light, quiet my mind.Of course it doesn't always work especially if im concerned about something.
I really feel sorry for those of you who have had such drama in flooding etc in you lives.Mother nature sure is doing a thorough cleanup of this planet.Blessing to you all for a speedy recovery of your homes.
