    whoops - I got sidetracked ......... again

I really meant to tackle some of my UFOs but used my lack of practice in FMQ as an excuse. This week was going to be the week to do something about it but the family (and puppy) came for Sunday lunch yesterday ........ and I saw this cute fabric .......and Bailey (my daughter's new puppy) will soon need a couple of blankets - one for his bed and one for the back of the car............

My next problem is deciding on the pattern - I can't believe how many permutations you get with 64 Half-Square Triangles!

What happy fabric you have there Jane. Love the poochies in the yellow print.
I try not to play with HST's too long. I get totally scrambled in the brain. Permutations is right!

HSTs are lots of fun! So many ways to put them together. I am gathering up fabrics to make a new quilt for my daughter's bed. The whole thing is made up of HSTs! I can't believe I said yes to the pattern when she chose it!

The fabrics are mighty cute! I love that zigzag/rickrack look. I really want to try making a border with that design. Please let us see what you end up choosing for your design.

Cute fabric, and HSTs are my "go to" block for quick quilts. I don't make them too small, then I don't have too many to sew together. It's so cute that you are making it for the puppy!

Chevron quilts are quite popular right now. I believe our Lissau is working on one (gorgeous colors) right now also. Yours will be special with the darling puppy print!

So cute and great colors. This is going to be my next quilt (if I ever finish the quilt I am working on, that is). Is there an easy way to make the squares (half and half?)

Look on the tutorials with Jenny doing HST's. She sews all the way around a square made of two squares right sides together. Then she cuts them corner to corner. They work great! If you can't find it on this site, try youtube, maybe it is there. I love this way. She used charm squares. So easy, no measuring, just sewing and cutting. Hugs, Jan L.

I cut 5" squares and put them in pairs. Iron in half diagonally (or mark with a pencil) to mark centre line then chain piece 1/4" seams on either side of the line before cutting.

The way Jenny did it, you don't have to measure. Just sew your 1/4" all the way around and then make two cuts corner to corner. They will always match up because you cut them from the same square. Check it out, it works great. The way you are doing it works fine too. Whatever works for you. There are no quilt police. LOL

I will have to track down that tutorial - I thought that method was mainly used for larger squares like layer cakes to make hourglass blocks. Didn't think to try it on smaller squares!
