Can anybody tell me the demensions of a queen size quilt if it will be used with a bed ruffle? I want the quilt to come just pass the top of the ruffle.

It depends on the thickness of your mattress. A Queen mattress measures 60" x 84". Add enough drop on three sides of the quilt to bring it down to the length you desire. For example, if your mattress is 10" thick, add 10" on the left side, 10" on the right side, and 10" on the bottom. That would bring it just to the top of the bed ruffle. Also, will the quilt top shrink when quilted and washed? You might want to factor that in, too.

Measure the bed where the quilt will reside, decide your drop on each side and proceed from there.Sometimes, when there's a raging fire,
it's best not to try to put it out with gasoline.

You could google queen mattresses to get an idea of the average thickness to help determine the drop. Do consider that there will be shrinkage due to quilting and washing. Bigger is usually better than too small in bedcovers and most other things, too

according to my handy dandy "All-in-one Quilter's Reference Tool" book on pg 10, it states that if you want a queen size quilt with a drop of 10" it should measure 80 x90. If you want a pillow tuck too it boosts it up to 80 x 100.sigpicComment

I have a only a full size bed, and I made a napping size quilt to go over our bed quilt, that is 74" wide, and it barely makes it over the edge. When we get a queen, I will be making our new quilt closer to 100 wide.Comment

These were measurements I jotted down while watching one of Jenny's tutorials and she mentioned each bed size and measurement. Jenny also mentioned how many Charm Packs it took to make each size quilt, but I am sorry, I didn't jot that down.
I am sure that someone else on the forum will have that information.

Crib..................45" x 60"
Twin.................63" x 87"
Double.............78" x 87"
Queen..............84" x 92"
King................100" x 92"

I stand corrected. I just measured my queen mattress and it is indeed 60" x 80". Those other measurements were my feeble memory that a queen mattress was 5 feet x 7 feet, which it clearly is not.
