Basting spray

What kind of basting spray is the best? I have never used it as I am making my first quilt and the thought of a lot of pinning does not sound fun so I thought I would try the spray way

I just got the 505 shipped to me in Hawaii after use two different "Quilting Basting Sprays", both smelled terrible and had overspray all over the place and didn't hold the layers together.

The 505 was wonderful, no smell at all, I used it our tiny condo living room on the "Sarah Quilt" in my album that was a team effort. Hardly any overspray at all and the layers held together without having to pin at all. You can reposition the fabric from the batting if you need to and place it down again, it will still hold! I quilted 57" x 63" lengths SITD without any puckers at all on the back and I can say that when I use curved safety pins.

Bought the large can of 505 for just under $14 at sewforless.com

No more pinning for me and I threw out the other two cans of "quilting basting sprays".

After reading everyone's praises about basting spray, I bought Dritz Spray Adhesive at Joann's w/50% coupon. It has a slight odor to it, but I used it in a well-ventilated room so it was ok. I'm pleased with the way it worked. Here's a pic of my current quilt after using NO PINS!! I think I'm going to use spray more often. I'd like to try the 505 that many are suggesting. Sorry for all the photos, didn't know how to delete them here.

I learned from the Craftsy classes to spray outdoors, if possible, to prevent overspray in the house. Use an old sheet on the ground or a picnic table or on a fence. Then press the quilt sandwich to help it all hold together better. Seems to really work. I have always hated the pinning because no matter how careful you are, seems like there are always puckers.

I've had good experiences with 505, too. Even if there's overspray, no worries because 505 is water soluble. It wipes off hard surfaces, even after it has dried.
