My mother sewed but I did not get a chance to learn from her. I have taught myself mostly, with help from Jenny of course

My Mama. She was my best friend. She taught me to plant sweet peas and pickle asparagus. She was my best friend and confidant! We could sit for hours and hours and never run out of things to talk about. When I grew tired of working full time she stepped in and we job shared for a few years. My 3 children had a wonderful relationship with her, she lived just down the block. She met her true Prince Charming later in life and the two of them sold everything and lived on a sailboat for a few years. She journaled daily, and those journals read like an adventure lived! I am her Jr. We share the same name. She left us far too soon, and not a day goes by that I don't think about her or need her input or advice. My sister and I always say "Mother would know" when we have a question about a recipe, gardening...anything! She sewed dresses for me but she never quilted, and was thrilled to tears when she saw my first quilt a week before she died. She would love what I'm doing now, and would cherish every quilt I've made!

Yes, my Mom did sew...she had a Singer sewing machine in a beautiful cabinet...it was in the 40's when she bought it...she didn't do quilting...she sewed curtains and clothing...she also taught me embroidery and crewel work....I taught myself cross-stitch with a little help from a friend and have enjoyed that for years...quilting is now my passion! Everyone enjoy your day!

    Congrats qultinterri!

My mom did some sewing but she doesn't quilt. One of my grandma's made quilts but they were just for family and made out of whatever she had available and were always tied. I don't even think my other grandma owned a needle! I wasn't interested in sewing when I was younger. So I basically have taught myself to sew and am still learning.

    Congratulations Quiltinterri.

My mom had a sewing machine, but I think the only thing she every did with it was mend clothes. She was a fabulous knitter though and made some beautiful things. After my first daughter was born she started knitting a beautiful baby set. It was a hat, sweater and blanket. They were white with variegated pink roses knitted into it then green leaves embroidered on. She had the hat and sweater finished and all but about 2 or 3 inches of the blanket done when she passed away 22 days after my daughter was born. She had only been knitting on it for about 10 days or so since back then we had no idea what sex the baby would be. She did teach me to knit when I was 5, so I was able to finish the blanket and was proud to wrap my baby up in it. Next Tuesday will make 39 years since I lost her and I still miss her terribly.

    First of all "Congrats quiltinterri"!

My mother was born in 1925 and started sewing and quilting at a very young age. I remember her telling all of us when we were kids about growing up in her family of 5 brothers and herself. Every scrap of material was saved and made into quilts to keep them warm in the cold winter nights. They made some of their clothing out of feed sack material. Mom taught me and my sister to quilt when we were about 12 or 13 and I fell in love with it. I have the last quilt my mother made hanging on my bedroom wall. I quilted with my mother till she went into a nursing home in 2000. Mom passed away in 2006 and I will always have great memories of quilting with her.
If you don't know where you're going you'll probably end up somewhere else.

My mother did sew for all of us six children, clothes not quilts. It wasn't until I began quilting in the 80's that she took it up. Every quilt I make now I wish she were still here to see it! I miss her and the fun we used to have oohing and aahing over what the other was making. I have one of her quilts on my bed all year long to remember her love and warmth.

Funny, my mother sewed but hardly ever finished anything. Now I make sure if I start it, I finish it, no UFOs for me, maybe a few WIP though.
