i agree with Summer - headed to the cutting table to figure it out

sure enough - to frame the 10" layer cake you will need 2 10" strips and 2 14" strips (48") ...... since most jroll strips are wof 42" - 44" - you would need 2 matching jroll strips for one block and end up with a length that is to short to create a second block by just a few inches........ certainly can be used for borders though!

SO to figure out how i could use one layer cake 10 x 10 square and 1 jelly roll strip wof for each block - i cut the layer cake down to 8.5" square and cut 2 8.5" and 2 12.5" strips from the jelly roll strip (42") ........ and wahla !!! here are the resulting magic squares YAY!! ..... the scrap 1.5" strip cut from the layer cake i set aside and will sew together end to end to make my binding strips! This should be fun!!

Suzi, you are brilliant! I think a 13" block is too big anyway. I'm making mine from the turnovers. I ordered some yardage with the dragonflies on it because there aren't any dragonfly triangles in the turnover pack

I have a charm pack or layer cake with matching jelly roll on order and am waiting for it to arrive...her tutorial was just in time for me....real excited to try this block..I love the block and will keep in mind the 8.5 cut if necessary.....awesome block

I love the tutorial!! But I don't like large blocks. I think I would do it with either the turnover or a charm pack!!
