Thanks for this post after reading it yesterday DH was headed to Lowes so I tagged along. Bought me a pair of garden gloves and gave FMQ it first try. I am really like it. Will need a lot of practice but hey no longer afraid to try.

Thanks for asking the question...so many helpful tips...I haven't even tried FMQ yet...I'm still just doing some SITD...I hope I can learn to do FMQ as good as many of you on the forum are doing it...I don't think I will ever be able to afford a long arm quilter...thanks again

yes, the gloves are a must I think. the dollar store has garden gloves to start with. Make sure they fit your hands and I cut the fingertips out of them, makes it easy to thread your needle and keeps your fingers free to take the pins out or whatever. I really love Fons and Porters gloves more than any
    other I used.

I like these much better than gloves, which feel too bulky for me. I'm also seeing rubber finger covers (called cots) used as grippers. You have some options here if you look around. Barb
I also have tried the gloves and gave them up to use the rubber coated shelf liner. I love this stuff because all you have to do is place a small hand-sized piece under each hand and go. Now, I don't have to take gloves off and put them on every time I want to do something else!
