I am not used to doing blocks...so the first thing that comes to my mind is using a fabric or print that means something to the person I am making the quilt for. T-shirt quilts are among the best for memories...every block a memory! But incorporating a memorable theme or print into any block is what makes the quilt special and traditional and memorable.

The first block that comes to mind is Dresden Plate -- just love that block. I finished a quilt that my husbands mother had in her belongings when she died. She was trying to finish a quilt that her grandma had started but she just wasnt into quilting. My sister-in-law gave it to me and I finished. It had some darling old-fashined fabric and the "plates" were on a yellow fabric that looked like an old sheet. My daughter has the quilt now.

About as basic as it is traditional, the nine patch. That's the first block that I learned to make as a kid from my grandmother.
Quilters aren't greedy, they're just materialistic.

I had 3 come to mind simultaneously. The churn dash, double wedding ring, and grandmother's flower garden.

    Congrats to the winner!!

The dresden plate as my Grandmother made me a quilt when I was born and that was the pattern she used. That quilt is now 56 years old and I still have it. A little bit worn but maybe someday I will be brave enough to try to rebind it.

Way to go missquilterbee have fun with your $$$.

For me it is the Double Wedding Ring, I have my Great Grandmother Adams Double Wedding Ring quilt that she made for her wedding night!!!! And that was over a 100 years ago!!! It still looks good, a little worn, but still in great shape. I also have some of my Grandma Mable Adams quilts she made, and a some from my Grandma Attie's quilts and one unfinished top.
