My step-daughter lived with her boyfriend for 9 years, married him for six years, then divorced him. I have heard "it won't last" when you marry at age 19, but mine lasted until death did us part at 32 years of marriage. My new hubby and I married after six months, and we have been married for seven years now. He had been married for 25 years when his wife died. I have been blessed with wonderful men in my life. two words... "opposites attract"....

It's 44 years this next month... and 5 yrs before that!!! We are a "fiesty" two... and soooooooooooooooo different... but i would not trade him for anything or anyone...
Just before we married we had our usual... "why can't you!!"... He told me flatly... I'll never change... he's keep his promise... and is as steady as ever... perhaps a little softer and mellow... ME... i've been the roller coaster... that he has just hung onto for the ups and down.... It's what marriage is after all... a commitment...

I'm not surprised you fell for a Southern boy; my brother met his Texan girlfriend in a bar in Dublin and likes to joke that he fell in love upon hearing her speak before even turning his head to take a look at her!
