I agree with the others.....white or cream color sashing would brighten up the quilt blocks.

I love the applique idea! I've never tried it but it would take it from an average (at best) quilt to a really nice quilt. Want to draw me up a sunflower, Cathy?

Hi Cyndi
I am a big fan of homespuns and scrappy quilts. This is right up my alley.
Now what I would do is sash them with a color that homogenizes them nicely. Then make some flower appliques and randomly dot the quilt with them. Several years back I made a big huge string quilt for my bed. I sashed it in black and then put in random appliques - here is one pic I took back then while it was in progress:
I went through my scraps and did all sorts of fun things on it.

I think one of the colors pulled out for the sashing would be nice. But, if this quilt is getting you down, pack it up for the cool days of fall to finish and get out some bright colors for a new quilt. Sometimes its just time to back off and work on something else for a while.
hey cyndi
here is a link to some applique. Wish this was around when I was doing mine; I always freehand stuff.

I like the idea of sashing and the applique. Another choice might be to tie it rather than quilting it using a bright yarn.
I did an applique on one recently [wish I had taken a picture] using 6 dotted circles [petals] drawn around a ball jar lid and another yellow circle [middle] cut the same way. I free hand drew some simple leaves and made my stem with some home made bias tape. I zig zagged around the whole thing. I loved the way it turned out and donated it to a auction for the Epilepsy Society.

Have to agree with Blondie. I personally love the homespun prim look. Personally I would pull a darker color if you were going to sash it. Then I would use anything kinda primitive to applique randomly through out the quilt. Stars, hearts, flowers. I know it is hard to think about fall, but it really is just around the corner. No matter what you decide, I know I am going to love it.

I've seen one that looks a little like this with a heart applique in each block. The heart was sewed so the edges would fray. It also had the sashings around the blocks and than borders around the whole thing it looked very nice.
I like the look of the blocks separated by sashings. It will be a nice fall quilt----love the homepun fabrics for that rustic fall look!
Much better In my opinion I feel with the sashing..just depends on the look you want though..
