It will create a seam down the middle of the paths, but I hope that the quilting will help camouflage that.

I think you can get away without adding extra strips to each dresden. Once you've completed your Dresden, lay them all out and cut one strip of fabric for joining them all and set them around all the hexis.

Here is how I would do the sewing and joining. Starting with your first hexi to the left, sew 6 strips all around. The next hexi, sew 5 strips and then join it to the first hexi where you havnet added the strip on that side. Continue this way until your row is done.

This is where it gets a little complicated but bear with me. Assuming this is your top row, the second row you would sew only 4 strips on the first hexi leaving the two top sides alone. The following hexis you'll sew 3 strips (right side and 2 bottoms) and sew that second one to the first and continue on.

You'll have empty spaces at the end of these rows (row 2,4,6,etc) . You'll either add a half hexi or a set in blank hexi to fill the space.

I hope this makes sense. I see it in my head but not sure if I'm explaining it well without making a quilt myself and showing pictures of the steps. I'm sure you can figure it out.

This is a pattern I have never seen before. I looked up the book, and the cover of the book has the hexes connected with triangles, and those make a star. Wow. It never ceases to amaze me what can be made. I see you mentioned the triangles, and that you wanted to do something differently. I can't wait to see it.

This is beautiful I love it! I may have to add this to my ever growing list of patterns to try lol The worst part of being a beginner is that everything you see you love and you want to try because you've never done it before lol

Whoa... that's a lot to comprehend! LOL! I'll have to reread that a few times. I'm hoping it works because I'd rather not have seams down through the paths. Thanks for such a detailed description.

Thanks, everyone! Also thanks to those who offered their ideas for sashing the hexi's. As I said, it will be a while before it is done, especially since it is summer and I have a lot of outside work to do. BUT...when I get it finished, I'll be sure to post a pic.

Oh I love this design. How intriquing. I also am a big fan of 30's repro. I love all fabrics but the repro 30's and civil war repros seem to call my name. Can't wait to see the blocks done up Bec. These are Gorgeous and very happy

Just remember to lay out your rows adding the strips as you go. After the 3rd row you should be able to "catch on" to what sides to leave blank and what sides to sew a strip onto. I am so excited about this quilt. You'd think I was making it!!...lol
