You Will Never Fight Alone
That's the name of the quilt I made this weekend for my friend who was diagnosed last week with breast cancer. This friend is also a fellow mom of a kid with muscular dystrophy.
I used a fat quarter stack of Moda Happy Go Lucky by Bonnie and Camille to make this Yellow Brick Road pattern. This is the third time I've made this pattern and I love it every time!

I did simple stitch in the ditch quilting around the narrow stop border and each of the 9" blocks and then a cross hatch through the centers of each square. There are two rows of serpentine in the 5" outer border. I used an awesome variegated Sulky thread on top and a grey variegated King Tut on the bottom to coordinate with the grey flannel backing.
I'm really pleased with how this turned out and can't wait to give it to my friend tomorrow afternoon! I hope it brings her some comfort on her cancer journey.

Yellow Brick Road is fast! It's a fun project like Jenny's Double Slice!

Terri,
What a wonderful quilt....I am sure that your friend will cherish the quilt and all the love you put into making it.
I was asked today to make a quilt for a friend who's sister was just diagnosed with lung cancer. She also asked me to make a "hat /cap" from the same fabric(s) that I am going to make the quilt.....Has anyone ever made a cap / hat to go with a quilt you have made for a cancer patient ? I don't want to upset this gal by making a cap for her.....what do you think ? IF not a cap / hat, I thought about making a pillow case ( I have friends that take their own pillows with them when they are receiving chemo )
Re: You Will Never Fight Alone
Nancy Zieman had some "cancer caps" in one of her books, and I made a couple for my sister-in-love when she was going through chemo. But I was using soft jersey fabric, not quilter's cotton.
You might want to see if you can find a pattern that calls for regular fabric on the outside, but can be lined with a soft flannel on the inside, next to the scalp, which may be very sensitive during treatment.

A pillowcase would be great, too! Or slippers - a bunch of folks here have made them. I did chemo through a very snowy winter, so I brought my slippers with me every time I had to go in for the infusion, so I could take my boots off.
