Your quilt is just lovely and she will love this for her modern home. Can you share how you did this? Is it HSTs? What size pieces did you start with? I really love this and wonder how this would look in blues and with a pop of yellow?

Re: Thank you for giving me help and advice
I'm awed by your generous comments. The pattern is half square triangles. I used 10 inch blocks for 2 reasons--lazy me had a white layer cake, and so I wouldn't have to cut the white squares. The 2nd reason was that I figured my squares wouldn't be really square after I sewed them, and I wanted to have them large enough to trim and still have a large finished HST. To get the pattern I wanted, I used graph paper and drew and colored the gray and yellow pieces, counted how many of each color I needed, and then cut and sewed the pieces together using the picture I drew. I'm not very good at FMQ, and so, using the walking foot, I just made straight lines. That had been a suggestion from someone on the forum, and it seemed like something I could actually do.
Thank you so much for helping me decide about how to quilt this and for your very kind and encouraging comments.

Oops! I forgot to mention that I think it would be really beautiful with blues and some yellow. The hardest part seems to be getting the gradation of the same colors that look well together.
