I am in the process of organizing my fabric also. I use the comic boards for 1 to 2 yard pieces and mark with a small sticky tag the amount. The large plastic paper clips work well for holding the fabric instead of pins. Ususally 3 or more yards of fabric I put on large cardboard boards. You can pick them up at Joann's but I get most of mine from a local quilt shop. When they finish a bolt of fabric I ask if I can have the empty board. I pick out about 20 or so every few weeks. It helps them get rid of all the empty bolts. So far I have about 25 bolts of re- wrapped fabric. I have a metal shelving unit that I can stand the boards up just like in the store. Hope this gives you some ideas.
