wip 9/8/15 Just a spoon full of projects!
I know I'm not the only one getting a little overwhelmed with projects that want to be finished.
Let's see,
*Birthday Surprise needs a little cornerstone attention after further review to avoid any batting issue.
*Sophie's quilt. Dear, dear Sophie. 288 more snowballs, then piecing the blocks. 18 more blocks.
*bedroom nautical curtains with blackout shade
*finish up hand quilting on table runner, bind
*cushion sleeves for new banquette
Let's leave it at that for now. There's a couple tops that could get done at some point.
OH, forgot... 2 tablet sleeves. One walking dead for DH, not sure what I'll choose yet for mine.
Here's to another week of hopefully lots more stitches!!

Re: wip 9/8/15 Just a spoon full of projects!
Definitely feeling overwhelmed with my Jinny Beyer 2015 BOM. I know that I need to challenge myself and stretch to grow but this weekend I felt like I had been pushed to the edge of frustration. 10 hours to make one 9.5" block is not in my comfort zone! Part of this months homework assignment was to frame the blocks out to 13.5" and remove the paper foundations, but I was so stressed I decided to put it aside and work on something fun:D
So I am gleefully cutting fabric for Jinny Beyers Echoes pattern done in a cool colorway of blue and purple batiks. I need to find the right fabrics and decide who goes where. I should have the fabric selection and placement worked out later today.
Please wish me luck in my pain management session #3 with the doctor today. I hope this attempt works better than the first two. Trying cortisone shoots directly into the nerve cluster this time. Ugh!
-
Re: wip 9/8/15 Just a spoon full of projects!
Sending good vibes to Denise. I am feeling your pain here lately. Sure hope you have some good results.
Amy - keep it up. Your list just keeps growing.
I find it strange that I have a list in my head but never get to anything on it unless I have a deadline and I try not to impose deadlines on myself. One thing I want to do today is measure my red and white strip quilt and get the batting and backing ready so my personal quilter will have something to play with.
My Li'l Sis was up yesterday with her Hummingbird Quilt and we soon discovered that the frame is just not wide enough for her top. Drats - she's going to be sending it out for quilting. Wish I had not sold the three foot extensions because we do have the room now where we could have used them. Day late and a dollar short - my luck.

Re: wip 9/8/15 Just a spoon full of projects!
Oh, dear... where to start.
DD wants a dozen table runners for Christmas.. I did promise to do them and have started going thru my stash. Found 6 possible ufo's that will work. And a bunch of fabric that I put away and forgot I had., ?? (how did that happen?) LOL.. I know, I know-- just a few weak moments with that DD and Shopping trips with DD#1 in Florida (2013) .
And to Quilt the Quatrefoil and stacking block quilt.. They are sandwiched and ready.. but I'm not. KWIM? Just not enough motivation for now .. I did finish GS's Binding tool Star quilt.. YEAH..... It is even labeled and washed.
Planning on going to the local Quilt show this month. 26 & 27 th. Just to get some inspiration going. I only have 12 project boxes filled and ready for my attention. One box is the vintage blocks from a great Aunt and Grandmother ( paternal) I really want to get it done so next year It can be entered into the vintage display.. fabric from the 20's.

Re: wip 9/8/15 Just a spoon full of projects!
ouchie Denise, I hope you find relief really soon. i agree too, if you're not having fun just put it away! The BOM is stunning but it looks really really difficult!
Looking forward to seeing the cool color way version.

Re: wip 9/8/15 Just a spoon full of projects!
After wilting away in the heat yesterday, I decided to straighten the sewing room. How did that mess get there??? I can't blame all of that on the cats even though they like to keep me company down there. Well I got as far as OH WHERE TO START, so I grabbed my measuring tape and went to measure some bowls for microwave bowl holders. That's a small doable project, right?
Today I am totally going to set up one of my tables to park the extra (tongue in cheek) machines. Also see if I can make a couple bowl holders with the little brown and tan White machine that I got from the garage sale. Found a manual for it online and going to oil her and give it a spin.
Wish me luck. Eeeekk, the squirrels are coming.

Re: wip 9/8/15 Just a spoon full of projects!
So glad I am not the only one feeling overwhelmed seems everyone wants something right now and I am doing to much. I have two baby quilts that I am finishing putting together then I will have four to baste together and quilt. I have out my leaders and enders that will end up a king sized single irish chain. My sisters quilt seven of 12 blocks done for another king sized quilt. I have started cutting up the squares for my nephews two color weave quilt.
And I really want to make up morning star quilt and keep finding myself cutting up stuff for that one. There are two many squirrels in my sewing room right now! A friend stopped by to visit with DH to see how he is doing post surgery and was like wow how many do you have going and which one is the one your doing for Mom (his mom but my honorary mom). Crumb I had talked about making one for her but she bought something so I had set it aside in my head. I need a spreadsheet for this stuff.
Oh and I want to make some table runners maybe what I really need is not a spreadsheet but two of me!

Re: wip 9/8/15 Just a spoon full of projects!
I have 6 T Shirt quilts that I need to get done. My Husbands cousin would like them done by the middle of October (maybe, maybe not) They are going to be small so maybe not take so long. Then I have another Aunt that wants a T Shirt quilt done and a Teacher that was my middle Grandsons teacher for three years wants me to do a T Shirt quilt for her as well out of her College T Shirts. Then I have a list a mile maybe 3 long for just stuff I need to do.
Oh well everyone have a great day and happy sewing.

Re: wip 9/8/15 Just a spoon full of projects!
Okay! I've read what everyone is doing/planning to do. And that has made me tired. I think I'll take a nap! No, not really. But I will be back later with pictures of what I am doing.

Re: wip 9/8/15 Just a spoon full of projects!
I've got some Ohio Star blocks planned for today. Right now I'm feeling a bit off, so I don't think I'll look any farther ahead than that. Of course, because of the thread' s title, I'll be humming Mary Poppins songs all day!

Re: wip 9/8/15 Just a spoon full of projects!
Projects that need to be finished, insert wild, mad maniacal laughter here! I am not EVEN going to attempt to list them all! And if that squirrel is not careful.........hunting season opens SOON here for 'em!
Amy, survey says, banquette first = MORE fabric storage, LOL! Why does one project always lead to a multiple domino effect?
Denise, Ewww, ouch! Soooo very sorry to hear about the shot(s)!!! Best thing you did was put that block aside and go on to something else! Sending you hugs and best wishes on the PM!
Sandy, the lists in my head need heavy duty organization!!!! I keep envisioning a well ordered filing cabinet but it never works! Sorry to hear about you Lil Sis' quilt, isn't that the way it always seems to go?
Fran, it was blistering hot here yesterday with high humidity, so naturally I stayed in the sewing room, LOL, nothing else to do, kicks dirt, while whistling. :D
Alta, man you sound like you're over run with the furry rodents. Made me tired just to read that! Whew, you need to unfocus and play girl! Seriously!
Today is wind down and prepare for the schedule thru Saturday. My Evil inner twin is pitching a wall-eyed fit over it, but one cannot go to work nekkid. Then a whole blessed 8 days for ME!! Anyway, between a few errands, laundry, more practice. I'm hoping by the end of the week to be able to actually put the sacrificial JRR tops on and begin medieval torture on them. Then on to real projects!
JRR tops (2)
Flying Dutchman
Second monotone
Big Star
Sticks and Stones
4P Frenzy
I get brain freeze just thinking of the future binding! Thank the Good Lord the others ones are just large lap quilts!!

What needs to be done.... too long to list, shame on me!
Ta-da! Finished the shower gift for this weekend. I am on a banner kick, they are fun and quick to do.
Can you imagine spools with sayings like...."get it done", don't procrastinate, clean the room! Naaah, me neither!

Re: wip 9/8/15 Just a spoon full of projects!
Carrie, I'm weird, but like to bind by hand....send them here, but I can't promise when you'll get em back.
Fanning Sonic to wake her up.
Cathy, I could use a banner that says "Git er done." LOL Love what you have been doing.

Re: wip 9/8/15 Just a spoon full of projects!
Ah, Amy, too cute. Mom and DD can create together now in one place. No more excuses now to finish hand work while Sophie keeps you company. LOL
UPDATE: Worked 30 minutes down in the sewing room and I'm out of gas already. Put up the table for 3 machines, swept the whole floor (with a little help from Andy), found several cat toys stored under dressers (from little helper) and got sidetracked with all the stuff that used to be in the windowseat (now banquette). Needed to escape before the squirrels attacked again.....this is my safe place. lol

Re: wip 9/8/15 Just a spoon full of projects!
Hello WIP gang........I still need to take pictures of the zombies. So hot this past weekend & trying to stay cool so I won't have a coughing fit.....but I'm feeling better. :) I do have all the blocks sewn for the batik quilt and started sewing blocks into rows. I'm not leaving blocks up on design wall..........afraid of a surprise visit from the person it's for. So I have them in folders by rows.
Need to get a few groceries and then back to sewing.....hopefully. :icon_wave:

Re: wip 9/8/15 Just a spoon full of projects!
Would someone run over here and look in my left ear and see if they can catch that squirrel that seems to be running around in there and tickling me constantly. And, while you are at it, I have spots before my eyes (remnants from my eye injection) and have been working on some polka dot JR strips . . . going crazy(ier).

Re: wip 9/8/15 Just a spoon full of projects!
:icon_woohoo: Now this is the part I really enjoy, finding the right fabric to go with a pattern. This will be Jinny Beyer's Echoes pattern done is a cool colorway, like my Fire Reflection quilt, but with one more row and column added. Her pattern calls for 8 fabrics but I am using 10 because I like the balance better. I laid the fabrics out in the sequence they go in the pattern to make sure I had enough contrast where they will merge together. The quilt is tentatively called Ripples.

Re: wip 9/8/15 Just a spoon full of projects!
Talking about squirreling... This is what I came up while making inventory:
Sandwiched quilts that I need to FMQ:
Blue 4P baby quilt (40" X 40")
Blue Spiderweb quilt (80" x 80")
Purple Katie's quilt (60" x 80")
Hope Cove (48" x 48")
Finished quilt tops:
Repro Carolina Chains (I think it is 72" x 72")
Grand Illusion (80" x 80")
Sets of blocks waiting to be assembled:
Monochromatic logcabin blocks (would like some more for a larger quilt)
Extra blocks from Grand Illusion's border (thinking of alternate blocks or sashings)
Little monkey blocks (just cut the strips for the sashing)
Happy Blue blocks (trying to make up my mind on the layout)
DHG2 SWAP blocks (different blocks sizes to match)
Jamestown Landing units (just finished sewing together the HST's unto Broken Dishes)
Hand sewn hexi project
I also remember having seen a top center waiting for borders as I was looking for the Spiderweb top (which is now basted and waiting for FMQing).
I am really loving your blocks, Denise, I am wishing you relief in your health issues. Cathy's banner for Olivia is supercute, as are AmyR's banquette and playmate.

Re: wip 9/8/15 Just a spoon full of projects!
I promised my son I'd send him scraps from their Binding Star quilt. lol, I just looked in the closet. Maybe that was a bad idea. I'd forgotten a box filled with buttons (don't ask where they were, I have no idea) fell out of the closet before we left. I just shut the door. Now I have buttons to clean up, and scraps to find that are probably in the bottom box in the furthest corner with the label to the back wall.
Hoping to start quilting on Chuck's tigers soon.

That's when we wish buttons were all magnetic.
Like when I drop one of my machine's CLEAR PLASTIC bobbins and have it loaded with monofilament thread that is also clear and I can see it but I truly would have to hook my feet on the ceiling fan and grab as it rotated and hope that I didn't bash my head into the side of my cutting table before I could retrieve it.
I'll run down and help you pick up buttons . . .
I think you really need a vacation!!! You deserve it.

Re: wip 9/8/15 Just a spoon full of projects!
ROFL we all have to much going on and need to have a squirrel hunt for the purpose of relocation! I feel better got both the chevron and spiral quilt done. Now to figure out backs for them. Thinking I want to do something different but not sure what. At least I know how I am quilting two of them and thinking I want to do the circles on the spiral but keep picturing zombies hmm wonder why?

Zombies? Zombies? Pam has ingratiated herself into everyone's brains. Last year it was the Grinch. This year Zombies. Next year probably Squirrels . . .

Re: wip 9/8/15 Just a spoon full of projects!
Sandy, I think you need to lay down with a cool cloth on your head. Don't know if it will help with the spots or not, but surely it will help getting your brain reset. Your posts are getting a little, ahem, strange? ROTFLMAO

Well they do make squirrel fabric so it could happen or we could have squirrel Zombies next!

Re: wip 9/8/15 Just a spoon full of projects!
WIP gang, you are the best! Needed the laughs and squirreling!
I am going to limit myself to what I really think I can accomplish this week: Get the blocks done for the 3 dudes with a twist - I have the strip sets already sewn, so this should not be too difficult.......
Had so much fun at the Angela Walters Dot to Dot quilting class on Saturday! She is a sweetheart! The class re-inforced the fact that I can not FMQ on a regular sewing machine! My samples are pretty hilarious! Can't wait to try out the techniques on the long arm!

Re: wip 9/8/15 Just a spoon full of projects!
I'm pleased with the progress on my M* quilting.
A nice visit with Fran helped the squirrels get even more active LOL.

Re: wip 9/8/15 Just a spoon full of projects!
After a nice break (thank you Amy for the coffee and klatch) I went back into the sewing room and found more WIP's. Yikes.....I found some that were buried. But so far, one table runner, got it sandwiched and ready quilt, a poster to be that needs some stitching before mounting (canvas pic to frame), two bags to be made up and a bunch of layer cakes and charms calling for attention.
Tomorrow is another day, right?
-
Re: wip 9/8/15 Just a spoon full of projects!
Amy, I think Fran needs to visit more often. Sounds as if you got many UFOs hidden for her to finish for YOU.
I only say that because she was picking on me. Now my head hurts.

Re: wip 9/8/15 Just a spoon full of projects!
Hello All! All this talk about squirreling and feeling overwhelmed has made me feel better! I have way too many quilts that are WIPs right now. Progress is being made though. I got my BILs sandwiched yesterday (after an extra trip to Wal-Mart for more safety pins). Got the templates for the musical notes all made and even started quilting. I got about 1/2 way through my first BOM I'm behind on and am hoping to spend the remainder of my night on it tonight. It's on Thursday, so wish me luck that I get caught up on it. I'm not even gonna start worrying about my other BOMs due Saturday (not even remotely started yet). Here's my Quiltsmas progress:
Music Quilt--sandwiched and hand-quilting!! :D
Binding Star--glaring at me from the corner. I'm glaring back, it's being contrary with its points.
Table Runner--waiting impatiently for my BIL to tell me my sis's kitchen table dimensions.
I Spy--14 of 72 QAYG blocks quilted. It knows it's my favorite right now and is pry preening to the other quilts.
Mom's--4 or 5? blocks complete. Buried somewhere just waiting to see light again.
Dad's--2? blocks complete. Same as Mom's.
One could say I'm a lil nervous about finishing. But then again, if I don't, presents will be made for next year almost a whole year ahead! LOL

Re: wip 9/8/15 Just a spoon full of projects!
Oh my -- I get busy for a day and y'all write four pages of posts! Squirrels, every one of you.
Glad to see I'm not the only one with too many WIPs. Going to do a little more appliqué and calm my nerves before sleep time. The day was a little too long for me here.

I finished the quilting and binding a Fall/Thanksgiving table runner for my DIL. And, finally, I was able to FMQ pebbles! They have been an obstacle ever since I started quilting. But I think they look pretty good - finally! Sorry the picture is so dark, but that was the only way I could get the pebbles to show.
Attachment 117586
I finished some bibs that I am giving to a neighbor who recently had her first child.
Attachment 117587
Remember the ugly child's quilt top? The border was originally just one black strip. I added another black and a white strip and put 4 patches in the corners. (The strips were honey buns, and they were NOT the same width - grrrrr!) I think the addition to the border balances all the other geometrics and the bold colors in the rest of the quilt. I still don't like it - but I think it looks better now.

Re: wip 9/8/15 Just a spoon full of projects!
Denise, sorry ouch but the shots are really not as bad as they sound.
I also have way to many ufos to many in process and 5 sitting there with binding ready to be sews to back. And 5 ready to quilt...I did get rid of 3 tops I did not like once pieced... Gave them to Mom for her humanitarian group to tie. She loves it when all her friends tell her what a good daughter I am.....if they only knew. Lol.
Reading this. Makes be tired
