Default question as to securing sts on a Singer Curvy?

    Hi all,
I am machine quilting a baby quilt on my Singer Curvy & nowhere in the manual can I find securing stitches.
So I tried putting the st. length at 0.8 & Backstitching, sometimes it holds & then not.
Does anyone have this machine or any advice how to secure threads?
I have had to bring the threads to the back & knot them ---not very professional looking~!

    Thanks,
    patty

Patty, you don't say how many stitches you're taking when you do this. I bring up my bobbin thread and I take about 3-5 stitches forward then a couple back using the shortest stitch I have (0.5). If this doesnt work for you, make sure when you bring up your bobbin thread you leave yourself a long tail with both threads. Instead of knotting them, rethread them through a sewing needle and bury them between the layers in your quilt. This is how machine quilters and handquilters do it.

Also, when you start stitching your securing stitches, make sure you hang on to your long threads or the they'll get pulled down into the backside of the quilt and make a mess.

Yes, what Denis said. You need to bring your bobbin thread to the top, and do a back stitches. That should solve your problem. Good luck.

    HI Denis,
I am not bringing the bobbin thread up on top to secure when beginning---no wonder...duh.
Now am I understanding you do this when ending a line of sts.,if so how do you pull the thread up --then to the topside & re-align end stitch & secure.
I know i am making this reeeal hard.

When you finish your quilting line you don't have to bring up your bobbin thread, just reduce your stitch length when you get to about 1/4" to where you want to stop. Take those stitches then backstich again, and for extra security come forward again. At this point, just cut your threads as usual.

A little tip, if you're doing SITD around a block, start by bringing up the bobbin thread, take little stitches but dont backstitch because when you come around the block you will come back over your starting point. Reduce your stitches over these and backstrack a little bit. If you over backtrack you'll have a build up of thread.

    HI Denis,
I got to spend some time doing this & everything locked nicely. but there is a bump where the repeated sts. lock--but I can live with that~
I don't SITD due to not staying in the ditch~~guess I weave sometimes ..lol
    Thanks so much

I wanted to update on this quilt-- I got it done last week!
It is my 1st totally machine done quilt--boy did I learn a lot~!
I didn't have enough batting width- wise to fill the binding, so as I sewed the binding to the front I inserted batting
    all the way around..time consuming!
Crazy Mom Quilts suggested using a zipper foot to stitch down the binding & that really was nicer.
ok now on to the probably 6 more quilts in various stages to finish.
    Patty
