question as to securing sts on a Singer Curvy?

Hi all,
I am machine quilting a baby quilt on my Singer Curvy & nowhere in the manual can I find securing stitches.
So I tried putting the st. length at 0.8 & Backstitching, sometimes it holds & then not.
Does anyone have this machine or any advice how to secure threads?
I have had to bring the threads to the back & knot them ---not very professional looking~!

I wanted to update on this quilt-- I got it done last week!
It is my 1st totally machine done quilt--boy did I learn a lot~!
I didn't have enough batting width- wise to fill the binding, so as I sewed the binding to the front I inserted batting
all the way around..time consuming!
Crazy Mom Quilts suggested using a zipper foot to stitch down the binding & that really was nicer.
ok now on to the probably 6 more quilts in various stages to finish.
