    Default Border or sashing?

I have my rows ready for a 2-color bowtie quilt using 5" squares. The outside of the quilt will be bordered with 5" square bowties probably lying in the opposite direction of the big squares.

So, I want to put a solid color between the large and small blocks. Would it be easier to add a sashing to the large blocks rather than using a border? I am thinking sashing, because then I would have a large bowtie, sashing, and then the two smaller blocks. I think that it would keep the rows straight. Opinions please.

Without seeing the blocks it is hard to say, but in my minds eye, I am saying border between the large and small. Then the small blocks would actually be another border.

Will you put sashing between the bow tie blocks in the body of the quilt? I am re-reading this, are you going to make the sashing into pieces to make rows, then sew the rows together? That could work well. I see how difficult it would be to line up the outside blocks to line up with the inside blocks. I guess that is the best way to do it. See, you figured it out!
