What kind of basting spray is the best? I have never used it as I am making my first quilt and the thought of a lot of pinning does not sound fun so I thought I would try the spray way

I have noticed that most quilters love the 505 spray. Barb
Yes the 505 basting spray is easy to use.
505 every time!
I just got the 505 shipped to me in Hawaii after use two different "Quilting Basting Sprays", both smelled terrible and had overspray all over the place and didn't hold the layers together.
The 505 was wonderful, no smell at all, I used it our tiny condo living room on the "Sarah Quilt" in my album that was a team effort. Hardly any overspray at all and the layers held together without having to pin at all. You can reposition the fabric from the batting if you need to and place it down again, it will still hold! I quilted 57" x 63" lengths SITD without any puckers at all on the back and I can say that when I use curved safety pins.
Bought the large can of 505 for just under $14 at sewforless.com
No more pinning for me and I threw out the other two cans of "quilting basting sprays".

Yes I use it all the time, glad u had such good success with it....
I've had good experiences with 505, too. Even if there's overspray, no worries because 505 is water soluble. It wipes off hard surfaces, even after it has dried.
I just bought at Joanne's a can by Tailor...quliting spray. They didn't have the 505 everyone talks about. But I had a 50% off coupon so I tried it (Reg price of $12.99!) and it did work. I made some placemats and the quilting part was a mess, but I sprayed a little and it adhered great and NO PINS! So I will try it on my twin size quilt this week. Wow, no pins! That'd be great!
I have heard of the 505 and all good but I also heard the good ol' Aqua net hair spray does well so I tried it and does just as well.
I am gonna be a quilter when I grow up.
