As many of you may remember, I had said something about trying to get my Granny's old singer out, get it cleaned, and see if I could get her to run. As I also stated, she had probably not been out of the cabinet in around 40 yrs or more. I opened her up today and first thing that happened was the belt broke (severely dry rotted) The bobbin is missing, but wheels and treadle are moving fine. Needle goes up and down, levers seem to work. My question is how do I find replacement belt and bobbins for her. I found out according to her serial # AA893880 that she was made in 1926. My mom was born in 1934. She needs some serious cleaning and tlc. She is far from mint, even if I replace the missing belt and bobbin's and get her thoroughly cleaned. She is worn from being lifted in and out of the cabinet, and being used to make clothing and quilts for many years. I want to get her going, but also cannot afford to spend a small fortune on her. My dream is just to make one small quilt top on her the way my Granny did so many years ago. I have only had her since Sept, when my mom passed away and my mom had her for the previous 24 years. And when I go she will be passed on to my daughter and eventually my oldest grand daughter and so on down the line. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Will try to get a pic on tomorrow.
