Has anyone used fleece for batting? I saw a Nancy video making a column quilt using fleece, I think. I thought maybe I would try fleece some day.

I think fleece might be alright in climates where there is some humidity. It's so dry in New Mexico that anytime I touch fleece I get shocked with all the static electricity in it.

I would think it would work but honestly unless you have it on hand I wouldn't buy it special for that it comes out the same price as batting. Depending on shrinkage you may need more then you think. I think it's a fantastic idea though if your using it for the back and batting. Meaning just the top and fleece. one of the most wonderful things about fleece is how soft it feels...Just my opinion.
Thank you, David's girl. I hadn't thought about using it as a backing without batting. I may just try that. I do live in a high humidity climate, so shocking shouldn't be an issue.
Quite a few of the ladies in the guild here use fleece for batting. It seems to work fine, but since I have access to the border I will stick with Warm & Natural. Mostly because I like the crunchy feeling after I wash the quilt and fleece is not made of a natural fibre so it doesn't shrink. I have used it for backing on a charity quilt and had a problem with it streching and getting pleats.
Just my 2 pesos worth.
Hola from sunny Mexico, Cheryl
I use fleece all the time.
In a country as the Netherlands there are just a few people who quilt (as far as I know around here) , in our town we don't have a fabric store but we have market every week. I buy my fabric at the market most, and they sell fleece too.....(I will post pictures some day of the booth I buy my goodies)
Using their fleece is okay with me, I also buy it at Ikea........just 2,5 dollars for a large throw size......
I might use a quilt batting if I could find it here, but since I can't fleece works great!!!!

I've never used fleece for batting . . . yet . . . but, my FAVorite baby blanket (given to me 30 years ago) had fleece as a backing and it was the softest baby blanketI loved using it and still use it today for my precious grandbabies!

Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek His will in all you do, and He will direct your paths. (Proverbs 3:5-6)
Watch for sales on fleece blankets (like at Walmart) and you can get it for less than the cost of batting/fabric backing and it will be all in one piece - even king size. Good luck and show pictures!
