A quilt is generally the thing you use on the very top of the bed over a sheet and blanket. You need to measure your bed and add the drop. And If you want to tuck under pillows like old fashioned bed spread add 6-8" for the length. I have made king sized quilts and once you have your blocks cut out, the assembly really does not take that long, assuming you are machine piecing. A quilt that size to hand quilt will take a while, can't see years. Or you could send it out to have it machine quilted. Good luck with your project. Hope this made sense cuz there seems to be a difference of opinion as to what you actually want to make.
