This was my problem to..what to do with them. But I am making an ABC quilt for my grand daughter. I bought the panel of the ABC's in 5" squares and I cut them out and appliqued them to a 6" square and then needed something to go between the letter blocks. I was at Joannes and trying to figure a color or two that would work, and it just struck me as they were right there in my face...the fat quarters might be the perfect solution so I wouldn't have to buy a half yard of 5 different fabrics and walk the isle back and forth trying to find ones that go together...so I just picked 5 colors I knew were in the letter blocks, and got them...at home I cut them and got 6, 6" squares (I think that was how many...it was the perfect amount and I have 2 left over!) It was easy to cut the FQ into the squares and the quilt top is done and looks great! So for this reason...FQ's were perfect, but they were $2 each ..a bit pricey but in this case...it served the purpose to perfectly to complain about price!
I kind of did the same with charm packs. THose things are just so addicting to look at and gorgous and all.. I thought "oh yeah, I'm doing charms" and got a bunch and couldnt' figure out what to do with them other than just sew the squares together. And then I learned about the tumbler template and again, just cutting the charms, but still just sewing near squares together. So I am still a bit stumped on what to do with charms. But then again..you can make the HST..half square triangles with them but other than that...I'm still looking!
