Thanks for all the great ideas! I will mull this over in my mind. It is something I would like to try. I wondered about the batting, thanks, Denis for that advice, and Allison, I've seen that paper method, in fact I purchased a book with quilting patterns in it that were designed to use them this way. And Barb, I can't even imagine doing this by hand, I'm sure your quilt is a family treasure and exquisitly beautiful.

Actually did a whole cloth quilt for my youngest grand daughter for her crib. It was done in lavendar. I did it using a simple grid pattern with butterflies in between. It was also hand quilted. I put prairie points of the solid front and patterned back on it. If I can remember to take camera with me to DD, I will try to get a pic of it. I love the look of whole cloth quilts, because the quilting really stands out.
