    Default Hexies

I am making hexies, but I don't how many to make,so far I have made 224,they are suppose to be 1 1/4" as the template has on it,but when I measure across from one corner to the other, they are 2 1/2".They are for a queen size bed.Hope some one can help as I may need some more fabric.I am doing them by hand, rather enjoying it.

Hexies are measured by the length of one side. Not sure how many you need for queen size. Happy quilting!

http://www.cddesigns.com/PaperPiecing/number.html has calculator for figuring the number of hexies needed for quilt. You just input length and width desired and size of hex.

    Lauthala...

You are 1/10th there....that's a daunting thought! Can you post a picture of the ones you have already made? If you show yours, I'll show mine! I love making hexies in the winter....snuggle into a big chair with the TV on and Molly on my feet and sew until I can't see straight! I think I have enough for a small throw or a few table runner or tons of coasters. There are some gorgeous hexie quilts if you Google hexagon quilt images... Good Luck!!!

Your welcome Lauthala. I thought about making a large quilt until I realized how many hexies it would take. Decided to start small to see how I liked making hexies so have started a table runner. Like Bubby I enjoy working on them while watching tv and it will make a good winter project. I also like the fact it's easy to take with you. Have started rummaging through remnant bins to accumulate fabric for a lap quilt. Haven't been quilting long so don't have many scraps or much of a stash.
