Re: Bent quilting needles???
I don't hand quilt but my needle sure is bent from binding! I just figured that now it's contoured perfectly to my fingers. :) But I'm looking forward to see what the experts say!
Re: Bent quilting needles???
My needles always bend when I handquilt. No need to change needles until it breaks...which I've had happen while handquilting too.
Re: Bent quilting needles???
Mine bend too. Hand quilting needles are fairly thin and I think that our hot little fingers and constant pressure on them just tend to soften them up a bit and conform them to our fingers.
I also take my rings off everyday and turn them around or else they get terribly out of round on my fingers.

Re: Bent quilting needles???
I don't have bending problems, just that the acid in my fingers turning them black even gold ones. :( When they go on sale, I stock up on them. I need titanium ones. I saw some made in England but they were $45 a piece, I was too cheap to try it out. lol
Re: Bent quilting needles???
Are you serious $45 for one needle are they insured if it breaks, lol. I don't think you are too cheap I think you are saving money. Does the black get on your quilt? It must be your magnetic personality that turns them black lol. What kind you use that they don't bend?

No, the black doesn't get on the quilt, they just start to make my fingers itchy and red so I need to trade them out for new ones. I used DMC gold needles, they last the longest for me with the acid and don't bend for me at least. LOL
Re: Bent quilting needles???
I rarely have trouble with my needles bending or breaking. I generally use Dritz needles sz 10-12. LOL about turning your rings. I have worn the same set for 21 yrs and have never turned them around to keep them from becoming out of round. The way they are set they would look upside down if I did.
Re: Bent quilting needles???
When I first tried using the rocking, a few stitches at a time hand quilting method I saw online, I broke 4 needles before I even got 3 stitches in the quilt!
I quit and sewed my old familiar comfortable way, one stitch at a time. The needles did bend, but didn't break.
The needles are so small! When I tried using just a plain old needle for sewing on a button, it was like trying to sew with a bone after using those tiny thin needles. LOL!
Re: Bent quilting needles???
I don't hand quilt but have watched some tutorials on it and she said the needles will bend...use as long as you can and then change needles....the tut was on You Tube...don't know the addy for it but it follows after all of Jenny's tuts..keep scrolling and you will see them.....am interested but haven't tried yet.
