Please help me! I'm dreading making the decision
I need help trying to decide what fabric to use for my quilt. I love looking at fabric but trying to figure out what looks good is a different matter. Last quilt I bought $70+ of fabric starting working on the quilt and realized the colors looked hideous. I gave up and decided to save the fabric instead of waste it on something I hate. Anyway, I decided it would be better if I get a layer cake and have corresponding fabric that way for my new quilt. I purchased the reunion layer cake from msqc. I decided to make the layer cake into charm size and use them to make a snowball quilt with sashing.
What I need help on is trying to decide what color to use for the sashing that would go with the reunion fabric. I looked online and saw others use white, kahki, or a mid/dark grey. I'm making the quilt for my boyfriend to use while he's at work. He is a medic and his shift is 48 hours, so he has two nights at the station. So I wanted to make him something not too girly (lots of polka dots or flowers,) I think that the reunion fabric wouldn't be overally girly. I was originally thinking white, with a dark navy border and binding but if he has a call where he gets covered in dirt, even if he showers he may still be dirty-white would show the dirt. I'm thinking maybe a kahki color? And still have a navy blue border or binding. Color choices stress me out.
I'm too worried about messing up on the color and have it not look good. Sorry for the long post!!
