    Default batting

What kind of batting do you use for baby quilts. I want to make a baby quilt using the charm packs like Jenny's tutorials. Also shipping is free today.

I love thin cotton batting for almost everything and use Warm & Natural or Warm & White. A single layer of flannel can also be used as batting in a baby quilt (I would wash and dry it first to take care of the shrinkage). Hobbs 80/20 (80% cotton and 20% polyester) is also nice batting. Barb

I use Warm & White as well. I've tried others and always end up back with the W&W.

ditto the others, warm and white is lovely stuff. If though, I want something more tactile to use as a playmat as well as a cot quilt, I use a higher loft batting. I have made a few now and people love them.......babies too lol. I put a plastic carrier bag under one of the blocks so it rustles when the baby grabs for it, put dif textured things on. I have also added squeekers inside some blocks. It is amazing how the babies find them and remember which block they are under. But for a new born baby and a soft layette quilt, I would use the W&W.

Just for info though you can get Moo sounds, baaa sounds, horse and pig sounds...........oh and I saw monkey and dolphin sound 'squeekers' too. It great if you are making an animal quilt as a play mat

I use a mid loft poly batting for most of mine although the ones I am doing now am using a low loft 80/20. I like the puffiness that the higher loft gives, and shows off the quilting better, in my opinion. But then I have just recently started machine quilting, and the low loft makes the binding process so much easier. If you are giving it as a gift, or for your own child use what you want. If donating to charity use the low loft.

I used to use warm and natural, but now I'm using Quilter's Dream. It is a lot like warm and natural, but not as compact feeling. I used Quilter's Dream Select on my Crossroads quilt that I posted today, but I would probably use Quilter's Dream Request on a baby quilt. They make both cotton and polyester, but I use the cotton.
