Re: borders
I try to cut all my borders lengthwise but sometimes it's just not possible. I recently had to piece a border and I thought I would not like it, but it's barely noticeable and now that the quilt is on a bed it's not a problem at all! I have another quilt to put borders on now that has to be cut crosswise because of the print. This is going to be a lot of piecing because it's another large quilt.
When you piece your border together use diagonal seams unless you are working with a stripe, plaid or large print..these are better pieced straight across. This makes the seam much less noticeable because you can match the print (hopefully).
