Default Another quilt...I need suggestions ABC/123 blocks

    http://www.stitchingpostquilts.com/c...age=b2bg02.jpg

Look at that panel, please and help me....ABC's/123"s blocks are about 4x4 in. I intend to applique them onto a solid block...not sure what size. That is where I need the ladies of the quilts....help me design this for my 18 month old grand daughter. Twin bed size, give or take. I dont' get to see her much, but I know at that age they love bright colors. But since the blocks are so small.. I don't want to overwhelm them with to many sashings of bright colors. I thought that since blue is a prominent color in all the animal blocks, that I should make that the color of the block I applique them to, but then thought that'd be to much blue! So I thought 4 different prominent colors and alternate them. But then what? I figure blocks of a different quilt techinque (like a same size 4patch or something like that) inbetween the letter blocks..

Woudl appreciate any suggestions. I am so bad at this and it is the hardest part of quilting for me. Thank you so much for suggestions... and pictures you might find or have.. I have spent all morning looking online at pictures for ideas to incorporate the letter blocks wtih..not luck!

That is a really neat panel. I have looked at it and thought "Now what?" Since there are 30 of the 4" blocks (not sure about the size of those blocks running across the top and bottom.) I, personally would cut the blocks apart, put a 1 1/2" border around each block and then alternate them with either a plain coloured block or a pinwheel block to get your size. You would still have to add a border, but atleast it would be the size you are looking for. I did a panel quilt for a girlfriend's baby shower and attached is the photo. I hope this is of some help to you.

That is a beautiful quilt....I can't tell from the picture the dimension of the panel or the pinwheels. Could you share? I hope I can do that someday!

Here's another idea....If you cut out the 26 alphabet blocks plus four of the extra blocks on the panel and applique them onto 8 1/2" blocks (laying them out 5X6) your top would measure 40X48 before borders. If you added a 2" inner border (finished) and then a 5" (finished) outside border your finished quilt would measure 54X62. I would use the four non-alphabet blocks for the corner blocks. That should be large enough for a young child's bed. That would eliminate you having to make blocks to go between the letters. I guess it just depends on how much work you want to put into the quilt. There are also some slightly smaller blocks above and below the alphabet blocks...these would be cute worked into the end of a matching pillowcase.

Unfortunately, I rarely follow a pattern. The blocks were 9.5" x 11.5" unfinished. The pinwheels, I played around with until I got the size I needed. I had alot of fun designing and making this quilt and yes it is kinda large for a baby quilt, but, I make all my baby quilts between 63" sq to 70" sq so the baby can grow into it. They also make great tummy quilts. Thankyou for the compliments.
