Default How do I miter corners on binding using a decorative stitch

I finally got to play with my new Viking Topaz tonight and love the decorative stitches. I have a quilt with the binding sewn on and waiting to turn and finish sewing by machine. I've been playing with the stitches but now I'm wondering what do I do when I get to the corner. Does anyone have a Viking and use the pretty stitches on binding? Thank you for any help with this. I will go play some more in hopes someone will come to my rescue. :-)

I would come up to the turn and with needle down I'd turn and continue sewing. The decorative stitch is small enough that I don't think it will matter if the repeat finishes right at the corner before you turn to sew the next side. Try it on a sample and see what you think.

Also keep in mind that if you want to use your walking foot, not all (in fact many) decorative stitches won't work with it because the stitches are formed with more than forward motions. This is what I found tricky because without the w.f. you might get pleats in the binding...

I have a Viking topaz - I love to use the decorative stitch that looks like an asterisk or the wavy stitch. Some decorative stitches work better than others on finishing a machine binding. Try a few and see what you like! I marked all the decorative stitches on my machine that don't go backwards while stitching since those tend to do the best when doing machine binding.

Also remember you can combine decorative stitches in a stitch program to make new stitch outs - it is really fun to do. I did it on my crazy quilt that I'm working on. The mirror function can also add lots of interesting designs when combining stitches.

Thank you for this. I guess I should get ready to go to work and play later. Thank you again.

This makes sense. I will go through the stitches and see which ones only go forward. Can you tell me what you machine's preference is for down loads? Have you ever down loaded a pattern from an embroidery site. Thank you for your help.
