Default Well..... what do you think ?

Ok so I finally got all my plates at least pinned on background fabric. I have laid it out the way I want it, 3x5, the bottom row is all blue plates with the intention of putting ric rac stems on them for flowers and MAYBE a small grass green border. As you can see about this pic is that i just butted them up against each other. I really think that I will put a sash in between of the Dogwood Trails blue on blue (If i can find it again_) I gues my question is , is this Is there a better way to lay it out? I tried a point on point and that was a no go. Keep in mind that this was SUPPOSE to be a lap quilt... It is kinda like potato salad... not a small batch to be made.

Any input is appreciated and welcome the good bad and ugly. I just want to make this my best quilt ever.

I am not a professional at all, but if I had these blocks, I think I would put all the plates that are mostly made of the same fabric down the middle. I THINK there are 5 of them - 4 in blue and one floral. I would center the floral one with 2 blues on either side of it. Then, the RAINBOW ones down the two sides.
I would also definitely sash the blocks. It would define them, plus, you won't have to match seam lines! After each block was outlined in a sash, I would add a border around it all - even of the pink background and then, bind it.
    Hope that helped. Debi

My person opinion is to one more block so it can be 4 x 4. And I agree with the sashing idea. I made a rail fence in blues, teals, and greens with brown sashing. It's awesome, if I say so myself!

Have to agree with Debi's idea about arranging the blocks. No disrespect but I think the way it is looks a little discombobbled. IMHO.

Marilyn, Debi, and Pam.... all of you are right. I could tell that something is off but couldn't tell what was off. I am going to go ahead and make another blue block and re arrange with sashing in a 4x4 pattern. All of the blocks are different and that may be why it looks discombobbled too. I may have showed it to you too early in the project but didn't want to get so far into it that something couldn't be fixed. Below is just one plate but not on pink background. please feel free to keep the comments coming.

thanks for all your help and I will post more pics when i get further along.

looking great. I also think it needs another row. The blocks your adding stem too are they bigger? It doesn't look like you have much room to add stems but maybe that is just the way the picture looks. I love it and I would put sashing too

Dresdens are always impressive. First thing that struck me is that is that if you laid the blocks out 4 x 4 you may have enough for a lap quilt. I don't know the block sizes. And yes, each dresden I have done, I've sashed and bordered. It truly does pull it all together. This is gonna be quite a looker when you are completed!

Your quilt is going to grow a bit by adding your sashing! I think the 4x4 will work well....3x5 was making it rather long and narrow. I can't wait to see this finished...I'm sure you can't either!!!

I am in love with the idea of doing the dresden plate with ONE fabric... So simple, but it needed to be shown for me to realize how nice it looks,,, ya' never know when another great idea is going to pop up... Good job girl... keep up the good work, the more you do, the more you'll find what you love to do!!! B
