    Question Crashing patterns?

    Hi

I show my sister my bowtieblock and she said that it was not so good to have 2 floweprit togheter. That the pattern were to alike. What do you think? Should i swap out the white rose fabric for a solid or will it work ?
Here are a pic. I am confused on what to do.

I love the second picture with the light blue with the flower and vines on it. I don't think that gets in the way of the other block. There are much better quilters than me though, so don't take my word for it. I just like the way the blue block plays off the other rose block. Just remember there are no "Quilt Police" and you should do what you like. I think it's pretty. Hugs, Jan L.

I think the blue background shows your pattern off better than the first picture. Even the polka dots would. The two flowered fabrics with the light background seem to blend into each other a bit and the definition of your pattern is lost.

I think she means that these two fabics, while both very pretty, are very similar in value ( light and dark). They are all light. When you have fabrics that are similar in value, the pattern of the pieces is harder to distinguish. That was my first impression. I had a hard time distinguishing the quilt pattern from the picture. Changing one to a bit darker print or a darker solid will show your piecing more clearly. You go to all the worK of piecing, so let it be shown by the contrast. You saw how Jenny did that in her Civil War quilt, she used lights and darks and the pattern of the piecing showed up clearly

Ok. thanks for the input. I think your right. I will have to find a diffrent fabric for the background so the bowtie stands out better.
    Hmf. sister was right.. :-)

I will dive in to my little stash and se what i can find that might work

Thanks again for looking and saying.

Totally agree with Jean. The light floral are lovely, but they need a darker fabric with them to show them off.

Definitely need more contrast between the two fabrics.

Annika, I agree with the others, your floral is such a pretty fabric it needs something darker against it to show off how pretty it is. Can't wait to see what you do!

I would get rid of the white fabric with the roses on it and replace with either solid or something different. It is to much like the blue. Your blue will stand out better if you do
