Re: Quilting suggestions?
This is so pretty I don't know about meandering all over the place if it was mine I would do a decorative stitch around each block so that it shows up on the back and use veragated thread IMO.

I'm ready to quilt it (especially since her birthday in in 3-1/2 weeks!) I usually stitch in the ditch - but this one, I thought maybe meandering all over? or something else? I'd love to get some input on how to quilt it. And, if I meander - is the correct thread color off-white? Thanks! (Hope the pictures get attached okay!)

Re: Quilting suggestions?
Sooo Cute! Ever since I've gotten the hang of it, I really like meandering. So I guess I vote for FMQ. Re: thread, It looks to me like the quilt is white not off-white. So I would pick the white closest to your color. : )
Re: Quilting suggestions?
Super Duper Cute! And here we go with opinions. LOL I like my quilts neat and clean, especially with fabrics with pictorials, I opt for SITD or Echoing to not to distract from the images. IMHO. haha.
I agree with Brook that the "white" should be as close as the background color of your fabric, which in the photo looks more like a snow white versus off white. Of course photos and monitors make that a tough one to call. :)
Love your on point diagonal layout, have wanted to do that, just haven't had the opportunity yet.
Can't wait to see how you finish it off. Ruby
Re: Quilting suggestions?
Honestly, I would choose whatever your most comfortable with. I just started using a darning foot I find swirls the easiest so other then stitch in the ditch or outlines, swirls are what all my quilts get. if you have only stitched in the ditch I would do what ever your comfortable with. I would maybe stitch around the sashing then a swirl or meander in the squares but I'm limited on level of skill!
Re: Quilting suggestions?
That's very pretty! If it were mine, I'd stitch in the ditch around the sashing and if I thought it needed more in the blocks, I'd do a simple flower or swirl. I'd use the same white color...It's not going to distract from the pretty fabrics. I'd love to see it when it's done...please come back and show us!
Re: Quilting suggestions?
I woud do the SITD around each darling block! It is so very cute!
Re: Quilting suggestions?
Very pretty. The obvious is SITD or right beside the ditch.....as I have trouble staying in the ditch. Also, I tend to get bored stitching straight.....it looks good and I like the look, I just end up getting bored doing it. When I finally broke free and tried some FMQ, I really enjoyed it. ......sorry, not much help from me......the quilter that can't make up her mind!
Re: Quilting suggestions?
Super cute quilt! Whatever you do is going to look great. It this was my quilt, I'd SID around the large blocks to lock it all in place and then I would do some kind of FMQ inside the squares. I'd leave the sashing alone, or do a couple of straight lines running down the sashings. Those lines would intersect and would look good I think.
Make sure you post again once its finished. Can't wait to see what you decide!
Re: Quilting suggestions?
Seems like all I do these days is meandering quilting. It is the easiest. I love your quilt.
Re: Quilting suggestions?
That quilt is absolutely adorable! I love the fabric and the layout...how old is your daughter? She is sure to love this for a very long time! As for the quilting...as others have said do what you are comfortable with...but in order to get comfortable doing FMQ you have to practice...speaking from experience--practice on something other than your finished quilt--if you get the hang of it, then by all means try it as that is the only way we learn.
Where did you get the fabric??? MSQC??
Have fun and don't forget to show us the finished product!
Re: Quilting suggestions?
Thanks for your suggestions - my granddaughter is turning 1 soon and I wanted to do something special. The layer cake came from MSQC.
Re: Quilting suggestions?
Beautiful, beautiful quilt! I love the diagonal lay-out. You did a great job. I'm with everyone else - I can't wait to see the finished product! How ever you quilt it have fun!
Re: Quilting suggestions?
I think straight line quilting would look really nice with this. Beautiful fabrics!
Re: Quilting suggestions?
I love that fabric! And I really love the diagonal layout.
I am unable to decide on qulting myself- when I look at really cute fabric I just can't bring muself to sew random stuff all over it! But when I see other quilts with meandering quilting it always looks beautiful.
Sorry, I know that was not much help.
Re: Quilting suggestions?
I'm with jean... if your not real comfortable with FMQ... do a STID using decorative stitch or your choice... the fabric is so cute as is... and i would use the cream or white color for stitching...
Re: Quilting suggestions?
This is beautiful...I just love the colors!

Re: Quilting suggestions?
Hello,
I was very blessed to have so much encouragement/suggestions for quilting my granddaughters quilt - one thing I learned is that there is no "right way" - part of it is what you like (and I have a hard time deciding what I will like!)
I decided to do "echo quilting" along the sashing, so no SITD, but just 1/4" away from each seam of the sashing, so there's a nice crisscross on the back of the quilt. I wasn't sure whether or not I should quilt something in each of the squares, so, I did also consult my husband, who gives good suggestions - and he said, "you don't have to put something in ALL the squares, it might be too much."
So, I thought about it, and thought, yep, I don't have to put something in ALL the squares. So, in a tidy fashion, I alternated heart shapes and flower shapes in 30 of the 50 squares. You probably can't see it in the pictures, and it's very subtle, but I know it's there, and I like it. Oh, and because I don't have very good control with FMQ, I used my embroidery machine to sew the heart and flower shapes!
Thanks again for your encouragement - I hope to make another quilt soon!
Re: Quilting suggestions?
I love it. You did a really great job. Your granddaughter is going to love this. Congratulations on a job well done.
Re: Quilting suggestions?
Oh I love this!
You did a wonderful job on the quilting, just very very pretty!!!
She is going to love this!!!!
Re: Quilting suggestions?
It looks great! Thanks for sharing.
Re: Quilting suggestions?
Just want to say it's an adorable quilt. I love the backing fabric and the en pointe setting. I believe I would ditch around the large blocks and then do someting swirly inside the blocks. The sashing looks narrow enough to not need any quilting if you ditch around the blocks. :)
Re: Quilting suggestions?
Love it! And I'm sure your granddaughter will too. Just the right amount of quilting. It is beautiful.
