GOING TO THROW MY BROTHER MACHINE OUT THE WINDOW

I am in the middle of trying to finish my quilt using as decorative stitch and my machine decides to not sew the decorative stitch correctly. It is only stitiching the stitch on one side (kind of hard to explain) the stitch is got lit two little arrows going up the sides on the right and left and now it is only sewing on the left side don't know why. Can anyone tell me why this would be doing this, I have changed my needle, changed the foot because I thought it was the walking foot that I was using, redid the bobbin, rethread the machine and last adjusted the tension, I GIVE UP now I am stuck I need to finish this for an order for mothers day. HELP. Mahalo

Sandy, what is the model of your Brother? And what is the stitch number that you have the machine set at?

Does your needle have more than one position....I can position mine to the left or middle. I always have to remember to put it on the middle position because the default is the left. Hope you can get it figured out

Mine did this too one time and I have a Brother. I never did figure it out. I just had to finish that row with a couple missing stitches on each one. Then next time I turned it on to use again with that stitch it worked fine. I wonder now if it was the position of the needle and I didn't realize it at the time...

The electronic machines are very much like a computer. It seems like 90% of the time what's wrong with your computer can be fixed by rebooting it. Same with some of the sewing machines. If the stitch isn't working right after you've tried everything else, turn the machine off for a few minutes, turn it back on, go to the stitch again and see if it works. Many times that's all it takes.

I agree with Karen about turning the machine off and waiting a few minutes before turning it on again to reset all the electronic programs. I have a Brother PC-420 and I LOVE it. It has many decorative stitches but mine tells me which presser foot I should use for each stitch on the LED screen when I select the stitch. I always make a test run of a new decorative stitch on a piece of scrap fabric so I can double check that the stitches look good and to decide if I want to adjust the stitch width or length to get a specific look. Usually the default settings work the best though for the fancy stitches.

I hope you can get it working right again Sandy. I know how frustrating it is when you can't keep working on a project due to a machine glitch!

I have two Brothers and they are great. Have you ever used the stitches before? Read the manual it will solve 99% of your issues. I had tension problems when I was FMQ read the manual and I have to match the thread with the fabric with my new machine, my old one I didn't have to. There should be a trouble shoot section in the manual it could be anything from thread type, type of needle because different size needles are recommended for different stitches. I hope you solve I hate hitting a road bump in the middle of a project too!! Let us know!!
