I am going to put a 1" strip around my blocks and my ruler has the 1/4" marking on it, do I need to cut my material 1 1/2" or 1 1/4" since it already has 1/4" at the beginning? Thanks for your help

I don't understand the question? If you want 1" finished you would cut 1 1/2 ......1/4inch for the seam allowance to attach it and 1/4 inch for the seam to attach the binding....hope that helps!!
You want your strip to be 1 1/2"..so if you already have 1/4" already on the ruler, you would cut your strips 1 1/4" by your ruler. Cut one strip and see if it measures 1 1/2" and go from there.![]()

I'd probably count up 6 quarter inch marks just to make sure what I'm cutting equals 1-1/2".

I'm not sure I like my square rulers with the extra 1/4" seam allowance around the edge. It is shaded in aqua, but they don't count that 1/4" in the measurements. It makes me kinda growly when I am measuring something less than the size that the ruler is supposed to be. Thankfully I bought them on clearance.
I would make sure that your strip is 1.5" and go from there.
I grabbed a small piece of fabric and cut it - even though it has the 1/4" mark I still had to put it on the 1 1/2 to get the right measurement. So now I know...thanks everyone![]()
