Default quilting a dresden plate table runner

I made a dresden plate table runner that had 3 dresden blocks and 2 borders. I took it to my quilter and had it quilted. When I picked it up the circle of the plate wasn't flat. It was a little puffy. I cut it out using the cardboard template. and I machine appliqued it on to the blades. It wasn't puffy then. She did not quilt in the center of the plate. Should I have used iron on interfacing to make it lay flat?
I want to make another one. but I don't want to have the center look like the last one. Any suggestions?

Could you post a picture of it? That would help us figure out what you need to do to make it lie flat.

A picture would really help. I think I would try stitching in the ditch along the seams of the blades and free motion quilt someting in the centers (even if just a squiggle).

When you type in your message click at the bottom of the box where it says "go advanced" and then when you've got your picture exported to the gallery you drag it into the space at the bottom of that page and press where it says "in-line." I hope I explained that right.

Just a guess but I think the problem may be because the fans all around the center were quilted flat it puffed the center circle out more. I did a dresden plate table runner in the hoop on my embroidery machine and the center circles are slightly puffed out because there is no quilting on them but the blades all around the circle were quilted. On my daughter's wedding quilt also a dresden plate I had the centers quilted also and they lay nice and flat.
