    I'm with Karen. Binding is the way to go. Tying would be fine. You can tie it with the thread ends showing on either the front or the back. If you don't want the ties to show use an embroidery floss that's color blends in with the colors in the quilt and tie so the tails are underneath. I have one I tied many moons ago and it has held up just fine. I probably used at least three strands of embroidery floss. (I'm out-of-country so I can't look at it to see how many I used.) I think perle cotton is also commonly used for tying quilts.
