    Default Star block

I learned to day how to cut and sew the star block from Elenor Burns Americana quilt. I am making the stars to use as the stars on an american flag quilt...I used her Flying Geese template. At first I was nervous as I needed the smallest one and know how hard those small pieces are to work with, but I did it! I am shocked at myself for being able to do them...right the first time! I figured I'd be doing about a dozen before getting it right! But it worked right the first time! So now.. I just have to get them on the end of the quilt for the flag theme. I know the blocks are going to be shorted than the quilt, biut I can always add some blue to the sides. I 'll post a pic when it's done.

I haven't tried the flying geese yet, but I'm glad that you had success using the template. : )

I love Eleanor Burns. I also really like her flying geese rulers. Her directions are so easy to follow. Looking forward to seeing your stars.

I don't have the FG template from Eleanor Burns - I do have a set of her fussy cut ones. I will have to look at the pattern you are speaking of. I love stars! Since we have Dish now on the television, we finally get her Quilt in a Day, which I DVR. She is so cute to watch. And I always do as she does, just throw the fabric over my shoulder. Hahaha. Of course, I am the one that has to do all the picking up of said fabric, while I am sure she has others that do it for her.

I had to go look it up and found a tut from Jenny using this ruler.

I have a trash can at my feet and try to put the trash pieces in there, but if it dont' make it or if I dont' bother.. I just drop it on the floor too! Then once every couple days when I vaccum, I use the backside of masking tape trick to pick up the threads before I vaccum. Works great and I dont' spend so much time cleaning up!
