Making a rag quilt with Minky fabric
Hi all...I am a new quilter...I have some minky fabric and would like to make the rag baby quilt that Jenny did a video on. I was told that you can not cut minky for a rag quilt that it will keep shedding...can anyone tell me if they have used minky fabric for a rag quilt and their experience with using the plush minky fabric that they cut into squares?

Re: Making a rag quilt with Minky fabric
I have used minky for a portion of a rag quilt. It doesn't fray, so I paired mine with flannel. I had one side minky, one side flannel. It does shed when you cut it, but after you quilt and wash it I think it was fine. I gave the quilt away but I don't think shedding has been an issue.

Thank you for your reply..the tutorial on you tube by Missouri Star Quilt shows Jenny using flannel. It is weird that the woman who sold me the minky at the quilt show in Lancaster told me it will keep fraying if I make a rag quilt.

Re: Making a rag quilt with Minky fabric
I have made several quilts with flannel and Minkee. They turned out really, really cute and my grandkids love them! Minkee does shed when you are cutting it but is fine when it is washed. Of course, it will shed in the washer/dryer for the first few times as any rag quilt does, but I have had no problems with it at all. I have an AccuQuilt cutter and use the rag dies which is great, but I am sure it would work the normal way as well. Minkee may not fray in the "normal" way we think of for rag quilts, but it is very cute and feels wonderful. I think you will love it!!

I made a baby quilt using the minkee charm packs backed with flannel. It turned out fine. Just remember it will shrink down when you wash it, I added several extra rows to compensate for that reason.

Re: Making a rag quilt with Minky fabric
I am knew to the forum. I need your help. I just bought the accuquilt go electric. I need to know how to cut minky with the rag quilt die. I tried it would not cut the frays. I do not find a video on how to cut minky correctly using the accuquilt. It plugged my die and made a mess. I tried to cut it all by itself, then put a piece of paper on top, then put it between 2 pieces of flannel. It did not cut all the way through not to mention The mess I had to clean up.
